On holiday and only caught a bit of the madness yesterday.

First like to say as usual great job by the mods. Hope A & C has recovered :D.

Also some great info, particularly Hercules who has been particularly candid this window and although Ali Z is not on SC I think we should pay more attention as although he's not exactly giving out the most exciting info he's been pretty much on the money this window. Interesting that no one brought us Llorente's name, but could easily have been told to keep schtum.

As for my personal opinion of how we fared this window, I think the only way to judge is to look where we were at the end of the season to now. It's no use comparing where we were at a few weeks ago and being relieved etc and looking at the number of signings we made.

At the end of last season I believed we obviously needed to keep the team together, but add 2-4 players.

Most important for me was a more creative player as we rely exclusively on Eriksen. I know Lamela has a eye for a pass but he hasn't played in a year.

Equally important was a tricky, fast player to take the opposition on and get the opposition turning towards their own goal, thus opening up more spaces for others. I know it's become boring now everyone going on about pace, but the reason it's being repeated so much is it's true. It's the only thing our team really lack and until we start actually winning things and succeeding in the big games then we should strive to improve to achieve that.

I know we like to dominate possession, but there are still plenty of games where we have to play on the counter for periods of the match. That's just the ebb and flow of a football match. It's not so much an issue against most PL opposition, but against the top teams away from home and in the CL then it becomes more apparent that a bit more creativity, pace and depth in the attacking midfield department is needed.

A real shame about Barkley and typical Spurs luck that he gets a bad injury because I believe he could cover both remits I've mentioned.

On a positive note, I'm pleased about Llorente. Proven goal scorer, experienced in Europe and simply a far better option than Jansenn. Hopefully Poch sees fit to give him more than 3 minutes and the end of games and we practice our set pieces a bit more :D.

Sanchez seems to have all the tools to succeed in the PL and seems like a real coup.

And Aurier seems as picture perfect a replacement for Walker as you could get, so fair play to Spurs on the that one. Looks an absolute animal.

So all in all an ok window, but nothing more as in my personal opinion the two most crucial weaknesses haven't been addressed.

mate its not going to happen
they have bought him to play, why on earth would they buy him to sell to us later, they arent some tin pot club

True. But they don't need him or in all honesty I don't expect them to be playing him very often at all. Time will tell but their back-up plan (us) still gives them a profit. He fires or they sell back to England for more. That was my point... obviously poorly made

I'll admit, I'm jealous of watching the insane speed and athleticism in attack at Liverpool (Salah, Firmino, Mane), but to play that way, we would need a whole lot more than one mystery wing forward with pace. The reality is that we aren't that team.

As for how we actually play, I think we improved a lot. Very few of us were satisfied with Dier or Wimmer's performance in the back 3. I think Sanchez makes us much stronger in that configuration.

Also, Aurier has a higher ceiling than Walker, and assuming he settles quickly, we are more deadly with him going forward.

And what type of player is wasted in a back three? A pacey wing forward. A player like Kane with good size and a deadly finish is critical in our system, and we have found a competent backup.

Which leads me to the only disappointment, still no cover for Eriksen. As I said, my review of the window is based on how we actually play, and we desperately need a good No. 10. I don't know if Barkley was the answer, but someone is needed. We are an Eriksen injury away from being totally impotent in attack.

Going forward I hope we see some contracts being signed, I hope we go back in for Sessengon and Sancho, and if Barkley is the one we want, I'd like to see us after him in January.

I agree with your post. However, with Hercs confirmation that Lamela will now be prioritized as a No. 10 player, I think they'll more or less compete for the same spot. So I think we've got competition for Eriksen in-house already. From my POV, I've always seen Lamela as an RW (albeit a more playmaking one).

We do lack pace, but with the way we play I think we're more in need of a creative No. 10 player to beak down a stubborn defence (due to our pressing & high line). I know I make it sound like Lamela just signed, but I think it'll be for the best if he's not positioned as a RW. He continually drift towards the No. 10 space in games (and blocking Eriksen's spot as well as leaving the right side open), and I believe he might perform better when not having to feel obligated keeping himself to the right.

Summary of the window. We have to commend Daniel Levy. There were differences of opinions between him and Poch. I think it is safe to say both saw the light. There is absolutely no way anyone can criticise Daniel and moan about our missed targets, and 'Pinch of salt' ITK's who have given you very accurate, and honest updates, be it positive or negative. We do cross reference on occasions know ;)

Big shout out to Rob (Governor) and A&C, for their excellent work. Before I go any further, I will be donating £50 between today and tomorrow. Bosses please inbox me to remind me.

I will bullet point what was said with results and reasons, to the best of my knowledge.

1. Ross Barkley=As was said all along, not fully fit, and issues with his injury, we wanted to deal at figure which will not go public, but less than chavs, but not much less. He came to London, hoping to be diverted William style, but Everton refused to talk to us, as chavs tried Daniel's famous (after Willian) exclusivity clause:ROFLMAO:

When it became apparent after a flea got in his ear Ross scarpered, to return on our terms in January.

2. Our contingency was Gomez as loan with option to buy. We were more keen on the loan with option in our favour, and not Barca. We would have to of made a commitment to buy either way. In the region of 40 plus million. Poch was asked, and was not keen. Daniel then walked away.

3. Llorente was the silent one, and so silent that our relationship with Swansea made sure it stayed that way. Chavs wanted to deal earlier in the window, but Swans wanted Bony, but couldn't deal until GS was sold. We were tipped off by their hierarchy that bid was accepted by Spanish club, and chavs. Poch made a personal call to him. Once that was done chavs stood no chance. This is all Poch.

4. VJ, Poch loves him as a person, and admires his attitude. Poch wants it to work for him, and told him he needs 3 specialist strikers, and with all the games he would get his games.

5. DS= Without our backroom staff this deal would not even of developed. We had been talking to Ajax, having a full dossier on him. Chavs were very keen, along with the two Spanish giants. Also Bayern were keen. He spent a lot of time talking to Poch, and eventually that swayed it. He was shown videos of our complex and stadium. Enough said.

6. SA=Another one down to our backroom staff. Daniel commissioned experts he trusts in France, along with very highly regarded legal counsel in the U.K., who were liaison with appropriate authorities to risk assess. Once they knew it was over, SA was so confident he declined Yanited and chavs especially. Poch played a blinder also.

7. Foyth=Came out of Poch's influence and connections. Daniel, you naughty boy what you did with PSG. Can we say they were never serious?

8. GK=Poch wants 3, and convinced he will prove a shrewd signing, and rates his staff to improve him beyond compare. He also showed well in Spain.

9. Wing forward, we had a few options, but reasons we pulled with Poch's blessings. Zaha is interesting, and may be revisited later. All down to Poch, and Zaha has 35m clause that becomes effective around April.

10. Jadon could be a Zaki Fryers in January or summer. Watch this space.

11. Dembele will be utilised in advanced roles, subject to matches. Due to our pacey defensive additions.

12. Lamela is not far off, and will be used in No. 10 role. Hope it works out for him, because if not Roma is calling.

13. Danny boy Rose is happy. No issues with him. Still think he may go amicably end of season. We promised him that. Key to that will be if he is upgraded in his contract, as all the ones we want will be. Don't worry about Toby. All good.

There you have it. No moaning please. Overall we done good business. COYS!!!
I hate to be this guy, but I'm worried about not seeing any Ryan Sessegnon update. I'm only on page 8/19 so maybe it's coming. Sorry.

Thank you to all the ITK's and Mods for a great window!!

If the reports of a Zaha's new contract being £100000pw are true we won't be signing him no matter what his release clause is imo
I think when the new stadium is completed, the wage structure will be changed to accommodate our big players and 100k will be more affordable than it is now.

@Hercules, as others have said thanks for all your info throughout the TW. It has helped to keep some of us relatively sane anyway!

I do like the info that Dembele and Lamela will be playing further forward, it does give Eriksen a bit of cover and Dembele could be a really beast against the bus-parkers.

@worcestersauce you are more than welcome to disagree, but please let me know why!

As usual, we did our businesses late. But what I like this season of window is our intent.

We are building a stadium, playing our matches this season in Wembley and having champions league to content with and prepare for. As if these are not busy enough, the footballing industry is then awashed with crazy amounts of cash been thrown around.

Then our Daniel Levy came out midway in the window commenting on how unsustainable such practices can be. We were continued being laughed at for being the only team in the country not dealing with any transfer yet.

Other premier league teams were getting desperate getting their players and/or holding on to their players. Within two weeks of the window closing, Poch came out very positive and wanted explicitly 4 or more to come. We were continued being laughed at I guessed.

Sanchez started to be linked and materialised, and people started taking notice. 42mil was quoted and we got doubted. That was almost 10mil more than what we paid for our record fee of 30mil, surely not?

And yes, we did. Bamp! Maybe not 42mil in the end, but we broke our transfer record on our first capture of the window. I have no doubt other teams are sweating abit. Their chairmen must be sitting tighter.

A keeper came, OK (I couldn't spell his name). Foyth got linked, and came. Fast and furious, Aurier chose us, the club worked their magic, and he was granted permit to enter the country and signed for us.

Those clubs that were laughing at us were now jealous of us definitely. They knew we will not be stopping any time soon entering the deadline day. Levy's special was coming...

Llorente 'poached', arrived for medical and bamp! Signed! Chelscum must be crestfallen. They thought Barkley could be wrapped up to save some face. If reports were true, Poch-Levy probably combined for last combo of the window to make a call to him and Barkley decided against signing with chelscum. One stone, two birds, killing chelscum and dumb Everton.

Maybe a pacy WF could not be materialised, but Levy just showed the world, who the fuck said a club that is building their wonderful grand stadium could not be competing for great talents in the market, even more so breaking our transfer record, upgrading on our squad positions, and at the same time having profits earned??!!

Forget who is the winner in PSG landing Neymar and Mbappe, manure getting Lukaku, Citeh finally getting their RWB in Walker. We are truly the winner as a club moving forward amidst the conditions we are in and transiting.

I think @THOWIG was spot on about our dealings this window. Sure it would have been great to add Sessegnon and Sancho as young attacking options but these may happen in due course. The only slight downside for me is that we didn't manage to get Barkley across the line, I think the months of gelling with the squad could have been valuable

A quick note of thanks to @Rob, @Archibald&Crooks, all the rest of the team and especially the 'IT Crowd' ;) who make this part of the site such fun, contentious and insightful. I genuinely hope that all the other contributors are now happy or at least at peace with themselves for the moment (or until the next bad result happens)! Til the next roller coaster guys!

There would be little point getting him now versus Xmas. Admittedly he would be with our medical staff and being inculcated into the Poch method, but he is crocked till November. Everton were also being ridiculous with the fee. Chelsea only wanted him for Homegrown reasons. He wants us it seem and hopefully we can get him fit and willing in Jan. Also we have not had to pay his wages, he will undoubtedly cost less and I doubt Everton are willing to lose the £15m or so to spite us and risk losing him on a free in July.

Not sure what to make about Sancho, seems peculiar that he went abroad. I can't imagine they're pulling a Fryers... maybe?
Really hoping or Sess next year. ITK seems pretty nailed on.

I'm pleased with our recruitment, obviously we will always need another player to upgrade the squad or cover for sales. Some don't seem to realise what a strong magnet Poch is to players. IF we can keep him, and I see no reason we won't, his project will come to fruition in time for our new stadium. He's said he's already ahead of his goals and expected the project to take 5 years so let's keep the faith. Support ALL the players wearing our shirt and hope for less injuries to key players than last season.
