If Lamela is back in full training at the end of the month, how long does it take him to get fully match fit? Another four weeks? 6 weeks? We have no idea when he's realistically gonna be back so I get why he's not there. If he were fit he'd obviously be in.

Encouraging thing for me is Rose in there, must be approaching fitness.

He's snorting gak with a premiership footballer level of funding and with South American level of contacts.

He's living his dream.

Don't expect him back till the money runs out. It's how bang bang crumble works.

Sorry. Till his bad back cures it's self.

Next week Irish terrestrial TV are showing the Man United and Liverpool CL matches live and free to air.

Not surprised at all.

Think everyone wanted another creative player, don't know that anyone argued otherwise! But it would appear that we wanted a) Barkley, who is out for perhaps just as long, and b) the wide forward we weren't able to secure.

Seemingly we'd rather wait for the right player rather than just get someone (Sissoko).

Agree with all that, but believe me a lot of people were arguing otherwise. It was all err, but Lamela this and but Lamela that.

Anyway, I'll try and stop going on about it now and just pray Eriksen stays fit.

We have 3 forwards in the squad so it's doubtful.

It's still a poor decision man-management wise as he's the only member of first team squad to have been left out (Lamela don't really count as injured).

Bit embarrassing for him and not nice really.

Our objective is to win matches and give ourselves the best prep and opportunity to do so, we're not running a frigging nursery here, we are progressing as s club and in order to do that sometimes we gotta make some ruthless decisions I'm sure Janssen will be disappointed but if this doesn't give him the motivation to succeed and prove the boss wrong then nothing will.

I don't disagree with you, which is the reason I was so keen to get another creative player in. We can't rely on Lamela, but most people seemed to think he was going to ride to the rescue and just appear in October like he'd never been away.

What happens then when Lamela is fit? You can't buy someone's to fill a temporary hole, especially if they really are intending to get Barkley. Imagine if we got in Barkley and this other AM, then all were fit for the next champions league registration and, for maximum three positions, we had Eriksen, Dele, Son, Lamela, Sissoko, Nkoudou, Barkley and one more. That would be stupidly bloated, we'd be unable to register them all (as is already the case) and we'd be paying a crapload extra in wages to players who don't play.

This should be a sticky!

If the over riding sentiment about Janssen is sympathy then it's clear he's not good enough. Be more ruthless. He was given the opportunity to go and he turned it down. I admire that but I don't see him lasting much longer with us.

In terms of embarrassing, it seems our squad size wise was always going to have one person missing out. Poch seems to have decided that that one person is Janssen. Could it have been Gazzainga instead? Maybe. I probably would have preferred that but Poch clearly felt differently. It was going to happen and I'm sure Poch talked it through with him, let him know this was going to happen etc...

Would assume this means Janssen gets his chance in League Cup matches to show what he can do (as well as in training everyday in general).

I don't know why we included Gazza in the CL squad when he's never going to play unless there are injuries to both our other goalkeepers, especially as GK is the only position you can call in unregistered players, providing the injury to one of your other keepers is for longer than 30 days. It would have thought it would be better to have an extra striker in the squad.

I think it's obligatory to put 3 GKs in the list. If Lloris gets injured you have Vorm playing and you need another one to be on the bench

He had 2 hip operations, nothing to do with his back.

And I listened to a radio interview yesterday with Ricky Villa and he said that for a moment they feared he would not play again, so stop spouting nonsense if you have no clue about what's going on. Lamela clearly worked his socks off to adapt to the league since he arrived, so being a whole year out is no fun time for him.

I'm sure he's had plenty of fun with the money he's earned being out injured for a year. Without his wages we could probably increase Toby, Rose, Jan, Dele by about 20k a week. And we wouldn't be an worse off squad wise.

You have to name two, it might be wise to name three, but you only have to name two.

Given we could name a couple of young 'keepers on the B list, I'd have just gone with two.

You only have to name 2, but if one gets injured and it's anticipated that he'll be out for longer than 30 days you can use special dispensation use another keeper.

How is goalkeeper formally defined?

Could we have named Harry Kane as one of them? :cautious:

Why are people's hearts bleeding for Janssen?

This is a football club for Christ's sake - and Pochettino made the difficult squad selection decisions he felt were best for Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.

The only other option is to allocate him a place because he "feels sorry for him". We will be playing one up front, and the experienced Llorente is a much more effective option from the bench than Janssen - who has only proved himself in the Dutch league.

None of this is rocket science, and it's what is best for the club.
