Grand old team:

A difficult one, but Leighton Baines at least looked like he was trying. Kane put us out of the game with a fluke goal (again).

Still can't see what the fuss about Delle Ali is. Moody cheat.

and the Voice of reason:
30 goals in 71 Premier League games as a 21 year old midfielder. Bang average.

More:

Thing that sticks out about Spurs is they don't change much offensively. They have Kane as the focal point, Dele just behind, and Erikson creating. Those 3 never change. Usually Son in there too although not today. But it works and they've got clear understanding and work lovely off each other.

Not hugely surprising to lose to Spurs, they're a good side, but this was them without either of Wanyama or Dembele. You'd think we could do better than 3-0 at home with those two out.

Spurs are class. We are not.

Thing is they've spent their money a lot worse than we did. I mean what was it that we spent that summer? I would never guess they spent £150m, they've got very little to show for it. Pretty worrying for them! At least we had Lamela, Eriksen and Chadli who showed something and watching Everton today, even Soldado and Caopue would add something (even if very little) to that team.

I have no sympathy for them though when they go and spend as much as £45/50m on a player like Sigurdsson.

50m now is 25m then basically tho so not exactly comparable. If we'd sold Bale as he was then now, he'd be 150m+

How much is Kane worth?

150m?

However, saying that, he is invaluable to us.

He will end up leaving eventually and I don't think we should begrudge him when he does but I think he'll do it after breaking Spurs records and yeah, for an enormous fee.

It'll be in a few years so who knows what prices will be like then

I am not so sure he will leave. He obviously loves the club and i think we will always make sure we look after him.

I honestly don't think he will ever leave.

Levy needs to make sure he doesn't take the piss though just because Kane seems loyal, we need to pay him whatever we can realistically afford which it seems like we are at the moment. Most of the team are due a pay rise once the new stadium is built (except Danny Rose, he can fuck off)

@Basil Brush @Woodyy cling to that with all your might as I hope you're right

Seems incredibly unlikely in this day and age tho. The likelihood of us winning the league in the next two seasons - at Wembley then at a brand new ground - is low.

After those two seasons Kane will have been a pro at Spurs for 10 years and be 26, entering his peak years. Poch will have had 5 years, without major player investment. And players such as Toby, Danny, Dembele, Dier will likely be gone/off. Interesting how it all plays out.

I think if Poch goes, it changes a lot. Poch's never stayed anywhere longer than 5 years, even as a player. Last manager Spurs gave 5 years to was Burkinshaw, Levy's never given more than 4. History is against it, from all sides.

Depends where we are and if we've won anything. He may actually break our PL all time scoring record this season, already has two golden boots, is England captain but has no club honours at all and very little European experience at top level.

Next two seasons is crunch time for a lot of reasons. Romance says you're right but modern football says you're wrong. Only sides that regularly win stuff seem to be able to hold on to world class footballers for a prolonged period of time, for obvious reasons

If we want to keep him we need to start winning trophies. Other than that he's clearly happy and loves the club.

I agree. If (or when) we start winning trophies, I'd think that he would like to see out his career with us and try to break more records whilst with us.

From BvB-Freunde:

Courtesy of google translate...

The first game - out in Tottenham - is already a direction-playing game for BVB! Because we're going to play with Tottenham for second place (at least). Therefore a point or a victory would be very important, with a threesome we already have good chances to leave Tottenham behind us. On the second day comes Madrid - well, we can also pack .... I think Madrid has more "jamming" in front of us than we before those .... I believe they will have said more, "och nö , not again against Dortmund ... "...

So on Wednesday full strength and power ahead and start with a victory ....

There's something there to decipher...

that would have been a reality check for some of their fans. All preseason in the Barkley thread some were saying how with all the new signings they've brought in they''ll be challenging us for top 4, and they shouldn't sell Ross to a top 4 rival.:ROFLMAO:

Yeah that's true but the point still remains though, it doesn't mean you can't compare the two situations. The money spent you could say is the 'same' when you look at how the market has changed and values have practically doubled but let's just say that they've spent the same as we did back then and they still seemingly have little to show for it. We had Soldado who was known as a top and deadly striker at the time, Lamela who was known as one of the best young potential prospects in the world at the time, Eriksen who was known as being very talented even then, Capoue who was known as being a rock then and Chadli who at least looked like an exciting prospect.

Like I said, even on paper their signings don't look too great, at least not to me.

I don't disagree which is why I always maintained that the Everton hype was overblown.

I would say we spent more, comparatively, but overall seem to have bought better, although you wouldn't have said that about us a while back. So jury's out but yeah, I don't get excited by their signings certainly.

I just think their splurge went more under the radar as everyone else has gone mental too, whereas ours stood out more at the time.
