Yeah that's why we just gave him a new 3-year contract
I am not saying we are going to sell him and I don't think we will, but giving him or any one a contract is not necessarily a preclude to them staying. In fact it would make it more financially beneficial to us as a club if we decided to sell

I know you're far more au fait with matters of our youth team, but how would his impatience be completely understandable?

Because he's been told he's the next Lionel Messi since he was knee high to a grasshopper. He's been bombarded with agents and sponsors and god knows what else since he was about 11/12. He knows he's got "something" and knows plenty of other well placed people think he's got "something". Most lads probably grow up thinking that they'll make it if they work hard and have a bit of luck. Edwards has probably always believed he was going to make it and that the only thing that would stop him is a lack of opportunity.

I'm not suggesting his sense of entitlement (based on his potential) should be pandered to or indulged per se, far from it. He will have to learn the same lesson every one else has to, which is that if you don't work your arse off no matter what potential you have but I can completely understand his steely belief in himself.

Agreed. The challenge for KWP is to move ahead of Trippier this season. Surplant him and become Aurier's deputy.

That's a ridiculous, possibly impossible challenge. I saw Kieran Trippier at youth level for Man City, not only was he captain, he was also their best prospect at that age (18 I think).

He went to the championship and progressed really well, then after a good season in the premiership we picked him up, he then played backup for Walker to be ready for his chance.

KWP is a great prospect, but he is not in the same league as Trippier and barring a miracle he won't be until he actually plays some football.

I think people need to be a bit more patient!

There's defo something going on with Edwards.TOB is training with 1st squad daily and has clearly moved ahead of Edwards on pecking order at just 17.Although TOB is a great looking prospect I certainly wouldn't put him in the wonder kid bracket. So for him to have overtaken Edwards for me points to an Edwards regression. This time last year he was traveling with CL squad. Now he's nowhere to be seen in regard to 1st squad.Theres one space on bench against Dortmund.Im expecting it to go to TOB.

FWIW I found Mr Edwards senior to be a very charming and engaging person, I don't believe for one minute that he is a 'prick'

Non-issue in my view. He's a talented player and will get his chance but he is still learning. From what I see, he needs to focus on his team work, using team-mates positions/space, movement off the ball and keeping it simple in dangerous areas before he uses his undoubted talent to change games. Got to get the basics right before he gets in the first team, he can already do the sublime but there's a time and place for it. He doesn't need to perform miracles every time he gets the ball.

Don't mean to sound negative about him, I really rate him, just don't think he's fully ready yet and don't want to see him fail. He would do well to follow lamela's example: he's valuable to us first because of his team work, pressing and energy - all before his creativity. You might only get 2-3 moments in a game to use your creativity to full effect. Knowing when to take that risk is vital.

Edwards played hardly any football last season - through injuries and illness. I expect the plan from now to Xmas is to get him match sharp, and playing as much as possible.

What is ridiculous is your assertion that KWP cannot surpass Trippier. Despite his impressive formative years (your remarks) Trippier is where he is now, peaked in my opinion. To me he was a very good plan B and only was given temporary 1st choice in Walker's exit. KWP has shown much more potential than Trippier has (potential to improve) and in my opinion he can easily displace Trippier as No2. Lets continue to watch this space

Someone else, 'david', who used to have good info in the past, replied on FTL with:

I hope that we put a clause in any sale that any future sale to Man United comes with a massive penalty clause to us. I'd rather let him rot for the length of his contract than sell him in a way that he goes on to star for them after their antics this summer

Danny Cipranni said he was told he would play for England constantly from a young age so he didn't work as hard, not saying Edwards is like Cippranni but I am sure it has its affects, bad and good.

P.s don't believe Edwards is a problem I think its someone minute of internet fame.

Err I believe KWP has fantastic potential but to say he can overtake Trippier in a year is incredibly optimistic.

Trippier has played through the leagues to get where he is today and although he has not started the season off too strongly (injury might have something to do with that) people seem to be writing him off after 3 games!

KWP could be better than Trippier in a few years but give him a loan first and see how he does.

Reading the u23s match report Wayne Burnett had some good things to say about Brooklyn Lyons-Foster and Tanganga.

COACH WAYNE BURNETT SAID
“There were one or two good performances. Brooklyn Lyons-Foster at the back, playing against a very talented player in Lookman, he did very well. He’s still only 16 and did well, I was pleased with him. Japhet Tanganga stuck in there as well. They were worthy winners though.

Not buying injury excuse. He trained with U19 all of June before tournament .then 2 week tournament. Then had a break. And has played 6 or7 times since then for u23 and England.he's 18 and been back in full trading since June.

TOB and Edwards aren't really comparable. Different style of player and different positions.

I don't really think a conclusion can be drawn about Edwards from TOB's involvement.

Agreed. With Wanyama injured, we need a CM to make up the numbers more than an AM. Also, apologies if I've missed it but how do we know Edwards isn't with the first team? Is it just a lack of pictures? If so, could be for 100 reasons
