1 bloody game?...some idiots around
Really? This is not the first time Dele has been horrible. He is a luxury player at the best of times but when an XI is chosen such as today, one with multiple passengers, his limitations become more glaring.

We were treated to a display of what a real young footballer looks like on Wednesday. I think that most would agree that if we had Pulisic on the left today instead of Dele we would have troubled Swansea a ton more. And for all of Dele's qualities if we put any good technical forward in his position with the chances we create as a team they would probably have scored double what he has as they wouldn't spurn half the easy chances that he does. Moreover, they would actually be able to take the half chances that he cannot because he cannot properly kick a f*cking ball, cannot control a f*cking ball, cannot utilize his left foot, and cannot beat a f*cking man except to nutmeg them which isn't really beating a man.

In the first half Dele was presented with a beautiful chance to create something by one of the few positive things Trips did all day. Trips passed from the right to find Dele in space at the 'D'. It took him 4 touches to control the ball, get it out of his feet, and then touch it to move it forward a bit so he could hit the shot. It was blocked of course. You do not get 4 touches at the 'D'. People say we play slow well this is why we play slow. Our players lack technical ability. Receiving at the 'D' is 1 touch and then pass or shoot.

As I intimated in the Dortmund match thread it is a good thing when Dele is missing because it frees up our play. He is a selection headache for a coach. To suffer his 89 minutes of bumbling on the off chance that he may do something positive has got to be difficult for Poch. Give me Pulisic, Draxler or any technically able player any day of the week over a passenger that may score a goal.

The thing is, since his arrival he's been thrust into the starting lineup and luckily for us has been utterly magnificent, but for whatever reason his form has dropped. This is bound to happen to anyone, especially to someone so young and with so much hype surrounding them.

At any other top tier club he would be benched by now and rightfully so. There would be alternative players to play his role, or tactics/formations would be tinkered with because other offensive players are available. But we are very thin on options in the forward third. Lamela's injury is such a great shame in this respect.

If he were at Manchester City, Manchester Utd, or even Chelsea and Liverpool, he'd be benched because they have alternatives.

The ability to bench young players is also good for their development. Dele has almost been like our main man, but he's not a man, he's still a very young lad with bags of ability and potential which still need to be nurtured. Benching him will keep his young ego in check, pushing him to think about his game and work out how to up it.

At the moment, the only way for that to happen, is to play Llorente or GKN more.

I said similar in the Dele Alli agent thread the other day.

A bit of a luxury player that we can't afford to carry at the minute.

Thing is, I can't really tell what he brings to the team at the minute. He seems to spurn an awful lot of chances, and not be particularly involved. I cannot remember a single moment from today's game where I thought "Wow! This is why we have him."

I don't think we were shocking today, however I thought the performance was quite lacklustre in places. I thought Dele Alli had a particularly anonymous game.

Problem being, I can't remember the last time he had a really good game.

I sometimes feel that excuses are made for him. Especially if he doesn't play well.

I know people will say that he is inexperienced, but he showed last season, that he can do it. So why does he all of a sudden not seem to be able to?

I feel like his development Is going backwards.

I also think that he flatters to deceive the a lot of the time.

Again, Feel free to disagree. It is a bit of a contentious post.

He was poor but he's 21, he should be allowed to struggle on occasion without his own fans putting him under the bus straight away.

Maybe his development will slow for a time, maybe a year, maybe two but even if it does he will only be 23. With his theoretical peak still 5 years away.

I wasn't impressed with him today but as a supporter that makes me want to support him.

I'm never confident when the ball comes to him he's going to control it or look after it. If the goals dry up he offers nothing
What? He controlled the ball a number of times, gave the Swansea midfield a bit of trouble and that's reflected in the 5 or 6 free kicks in dangerous positions that he won.

Not sure why he's become the scape goat all of a sudden when he really was no worse than anyone else out there. But this site has always been weirdly prejudiced against Dele.

He's got 50 goals + assists in 96 games so far for us and England thus far. The game is obviously just not about numbers, but those numbers sort of speak for themselves.

But there are obviously some flaws he needs to iron out of his game.

One of the stupidest posts I've ever read on this site. Congratulations.

There's certainly a hint of truth in what he says, but he really is an exceptional talent that just needs guidance and developing. He's still very young.

Alli's start to the season has been poor, I don't think anyone can credibly make an argument to the contrary. all too often, he struggles to contribute when he's not scoring. I think he also needs to learn to keep things simple when this is the case, rather than always trying little flicks and tricks.

I don't think observing and pointing this out is unreasonable or throwing him under the bus in any way.

You do actually know that the point of football is to score goals, right?

But yeah, I guess the fact that Pulisic ran fast and looked pretty with the ball without actually doing anything was more important than the fact that Dele actually tangibly influenced games by scoring 20+ goals last season.

One??? His overall game has been shit since he came. There is nothing special about him. Son for example is ten classes above him.

The clumsiest player in a number ten-position in the whole league.
Fucking LOL.

You genuinely couldn't be more wrong.

Up there with a poster believing we missed Dempsey nearly as much as Bale.
