Disagree. Players are ultimately judged by what they have won. I want Harry to win PL/CL with us but unless he gets trophies he isn't going to enter the history books.

How many league titles and champions leagues did Jimmy Greaves win with us?

His records have only just been beaten by Ronaldo.

Didn't win a league title with us and therefore hardly anyone knows of his great statistics. I wouldn't know if it's not for your question, which prompted me to check.

Contrast that with Ronaldo. Most people are at least aware of his numbers.

Anyone who knows their Spurs history will know all about Greaves. Anyone with a dad or grandad who is a Spurs fan will know all about him too.

My old man mentions Greaves on a monthly basis. Every striker in the world "is no Greaves", ironically after the Dortmund game for the first time he admitted that Kane, if he continues as he is will come close to Greaves' level for him.

If Kane wins nothing here for next 5 or so years I'll still tell my kids every striker "is no Kane".

Ronaldos currently playing, Greaves played 60 years ago!

You don't know because it was a long time ago, not because he didn't win things. Top goal scorers are top goal scorers no matter where they play.

The figures speak for themselves.

Multiple guys have argued against my point, and all are fair arguments.
My counter-argument I guess is:

1) Kane is a leading PL goal scorer
2) Kane's aim is to win trophies and continue to be a top goal scorer.
3) If we fail to win anything, Kane could still be a top goal scorer
4) Above is not sustainable because if better teams surface then Kane wont get the supply he needs to be a top goal scorer.
5) Therefore while it appears that being 'world class/top goal scorer' is not mutually exclusive with 'being in a winning team', my point = there is a high correlation. Common sense really.
6) Evidence = the majority of top players play for winning teams.
7) Therefore most of the time you need to win things to be considered top of your game.

Harry Kane makes me feel like an 8 year old watching Gazza play for Spurs, he's that good. Someone said he's surpassed Bale, I reckon he's surpassed Gazza, Klinsmann and Teddy too. He's so so good. Every time he gets the ball I think something's going to happen, something good.

I'm a grown man and he makes me feel like a little kid again.

He will.

I agree, apart from surpassing Gazza. Kane will probably have more longevity but when Gazza burned brightly, which was for us, he was a force of nature. He had the Bale moments of outstanding brilliance, but at the same time he ran the game, from start to finish. Kane & Bale can drift in and out, Gazza always imposed himself on the game for the full 90. He was a one off i.m.o. and doesn't get talked about as much as his ability deserved, probably because off the pitch he wasn't equipped to deal with life. Gazza's sale also probably saved us as a club.

We are so used to him being the bollox his threads are rarely posted in.

Absolute monster.

If he isnt world class then there is no class in this world.

And hes one of our own.

Nick Chadwick won a premier league medal, Gerrard didnt- whose more remembered?
Djimi Traore won a champions league, Ibrahmiovic hasnt- whose more remembered?
Totti won less domestic trophies than John O'shea- whose more remembered?
Cygan even won stuff, was he better or more remembered than ledley king?

I agree that we must when trophies to progress, but lets not take away from Harry's achievements, regardless, he will go down in the history books.

Most people would rate Matt Le Tissier very highly. Most understand football is a team game so judging players solely on what they have won is a very poor way to rate them.

If Messi was a childhood fan of a smaller club and he stayed loyal would he not be a great player?

Yeah i agree MT is a legend. As you say it's not a necessary condition that you need to be at a big club to be world class. There are exceptions. My point is that most of the time, it is the case.

For your messi example: yes he would still be great. But imagine how many less goals he would score and the amount of people who watch him will be alot less. He deserves a bigger stage.
