Only opinion obviously. Just curious as to where Lawro thinks we're a couple of players short (admittedly, think he's responding to the original challenge for the title question there). Even so, am struggling to understand where he thinks the 2 are needed. Unless he means a pair of de Bruyne level type signings, which aren't feasible for obvious reasons. Almost wish I could have morphed into Dan, just to ask him what he means. Sinclair then goes onto agree with him, and references the Rose situation? Is there one anymore? I assumed he would come back into contention when fit, and move on at the end of the season if an offer is right for all parties. That’s it isn't it? Ignored lazy Wembley reference as it is just daft.

Anyone got any ideas?

Ps. Not an open invitation to vent on Lawro and Sinclair. Genuinely interested in what anyone else thinks (re: 2 players) knows (re: Rose situ)?
Not a Lawro hater but despite Liverpool clearly being a couple of players short, I bet that his predictions will once again see them soaring unbeaten to the premier league title.

We'll be fine. It'll click and we'll be in touching distance of the top when it does. Others will wobble. I know it's hard but people need to remember last year when Liverpool and Man City both won the league at different points.

As for 4th, who the fuck is going to come above us? Arsenal in their own special kind of turmoil? Liverpool who can't defend with a manager with a worse record than Moyes at united and who we've finished above, what is it now, 8 of the last 9 seasons? Everton????

That team that finished 2nd last year is still very much the same. We'll get over the Wembley hoodoo and come Christmas we'll be gunning for the top again.

That's right he had Liverpool not losing a single game last year in his predictions

We wont finish top 4 imo. Lawro (gasp) isnt being particularly controversial here, and we do need a ball playing midfielder (as winks looks to have regressed a little after his bad injury) and a wide player. Balance of the side seems off atm, with too few attack minded players. This is more evident at Wembley

Mancs, chavs and red scouse are better than us at present and arent playing home games in a temporary home and i expect will pull clear. Think we'll be battling with goon for europa places.
Liverpool aren't even close to as good as us! Any team that stops them scoring (and that will be all the top sides and the more defensively minded mid table crew) will beat them due to the absolute turd they have in defence and central midfield.

Well we play Utd in a couple of weeks so we can test that theory David usually I would agree with your assessment of our defence, but so far this season I don't think we are as rock solid as we were maybe due to injuries like rose etc and new additions like Sanchez and aurier that make us look a bit more vulnerable than we were.

I agree that we look less solid than we did at our height last season. I guess my point was that this hasn't been reflected in goals conceded, despite playing half the matches at Wembley.

One of the best markers is comparing shots and/or chances conceded. I haven't checked the comparative stats for this season and last, but my impression is that they are at least as good, if not better than last season's overall record. If anyone has the time...

Early season performances tend to be more indicative than results. And in my opinion we've not just matched but outplayed everyone we've come up against so far. That to me is a promising start.

He's right.

Doesn't mean we won't; but, like I said before the season began, it will be us, scum, dippers and likely another team battling for 4th.

Need a full, fit squad with no more big injuries. We'll also likely buy RB in Jan so that will help with depth for the back end of the season. We also need poch to not get excited after an important/big win and get his nads out with son at LWB etc.

I still think a domestic cup win - considering Wembley - and a Euro place (of any sort), would be a great season for us.

Take a cup into the new stadium and bring it out at the opening and kick off there with a trophy-winning mindset. (y)

I cant see us finishing anywhere other than comfortably in the the top 4. Arsenal will be closer to Everton than the top 4 imo and we're better than Liverpool because we can defend meaning we'll draw playing badly and they'll lose. So it's us vs Chelsea for the other 2 spots behind the mancs

Currently 4th in the league, despite a fairly indifferent start to the season...but not good enough to finish top 4. Makes perfect sense!

Wanyama, Dembele, Winks, Trippier, Davies, Rose and Lamella have all either missed games and/or played below par due to injuries this season. In a few weeks we will have 5/7 of those playing at 100 match fitness, instead of none, and it's pretty reasonable to expect our performances and results to then improve. I'm really not sure where we need to strengthen, in squad depth or starting XI, to be good enough for a top 4 finish. Liverpool and Arsenal have looked far more fragile so far this season and will have another battle to keep their star players (Coutinho & Sanchez) in January.

Was there one single pundit or fan who predicted what would really have happened last season.

"City are unstoppable"
"It's a two-way Manchester title fight"
"Spurs won't be in the title fight"

I think a fair few people need reminding on what happened last year.

Whilst we did have 3 more points this stage last season, we also didn't have to play Chelsea at Wembley, a very successful and familiar ground to them....in our first 'home' game too. These people could also do themselves a favour and remember that Chelsea were 8 points behind City at this point last season. A change in system and they suddenly became title winners. Who's to say an upturn in form at Wembley wouldn't constitute the same for us? After all we have taken maximum points away from 'home'.

I could understand people not considering us for a title challenge but to suggest top 4 will be out of reach is a bit unfounded when you realise that our rivals for top 4 are a side who can't defend a lead - as well as struggle to break down 'bus parkers' - and a club who are massively unsettled and a little bit weak in the spine. Then you realise that their opinions are founded on complete bias and nothing else.

I actually agree it will be a struggle. I also think it will be a bigger struggle for Arsenal and Liverpool. Man U and Man C are definitely much stronger than last season. Partly as two world class managers have had another year and pre-season to shape their teams, and partly as they have both thrown money at the problem. Man C spent £130M on new full backs alone! Throw into the mix that we are playing at Wembley (we've already dropped 7 points in 'home' fixtures this season, more than in the entirety of last season) and it is evident this season could be much tougher. I fully expect the two Manchester clubs to finish in 1st and 2nd, and 3rd to be a fight between us, Chelsea and Liverpool. Injuries could well dictate who misses out on the top 4, although we do have better strength in depth this season and coped last year despite lengthy absences for the likes of Rose, Aldereiweld, Vertonghen, Kane etc. I cannot see Arsenal getting close to the top 4 though, and it will be interesting to see at what point their board finally realise Wenger is past his sell by date.

Not convinced about United, they've had a lovely set of fixtures to get them going, you couldn't hand pick better for the first 6 or 7 games.

I think we'll improve with a fit Wanyama and slowly start to get to grips with Wembley.

City are favourites, but I think we'll be strong enough to finish 3rd/4th.

We've the best CBs and forward in the league, we're a bloody strong side and we've, crucially, imroved our strength in depth, that will make a big difference imo.

Giving Bournemouth a good hiding at Wembley just before the international break is fucking crucial imo though. We do that, providing we beat Huddersfield, and we'll be set up nicely for a huge October.
