So you think this one game would propel him into the starting lineup ahead of Dier, Dembele, and Wanyama when everyone is fit?

Pochettino clearly considers him an important member of the squad, and he'll start many games this season. Your original post came across as if Pochettino has suddenly forgotten the whole of last season.
if the fears over Dembele's longterm fitness are true, especially with the rumours of us chasing Barkley and Gomes, I'd argue that Winks is fighting to be the longterm succesor to Dembele's spot in the team.

It's borderline inconceivable to think that Madrid won't advance so I for one hope they take maximum points off of Dortmund.
Madrid will 100% advance. Our only chance is Dortmund dropping max points to them and us not fucking up here and in the return fixture at Wembley because I dont see up picking up any against Madrid. A draw Dortmund away fixture and we'd advance, possibly even through a loss on GD.

I'd prefer Davies at LB with Aurier maybe RCB, but hopefully Poch knows best!

Agree, now we are moving 2 players out of position. I know Davies has played there for Wales but he's never played there for us iirc.

Really not sure about that line-up but have to trust Pochs judgement.

It can actually work if, as expected, Trips does not get forward. What it does is frees Aurier up from defensive responsibilities of getting back as we will have 4 back to stop a break. If Trips is getting forward as well then I don't really undertand it. Many coaches expect 1 FB/WB to be more defensive instead of them both flying like Poch had with Danny and Kyle.

Can one tell the formation from the warm-up? I can't remember having seen them warm up in a way that would show how they are lining up?
Before the Swansea game our squad was doing a drill that involved an attacking group spreading the ball wide and getting crosses in - the wingbacks were obviously involved in this.
