He's never going to be the most beautiful footballer on the pitch but he does what he does and he did it rather effectively tonight.

Another decent performance. I'm starting to appreciate him being on the pitch and his willingness to run up the pitch and track back when needed. Good effort Sissoko!

Hes not been playing CM if you actually watch him, he drops down to CM but he plays more of an advanced CM/AM role that drifts right but not like last season when he was right of the three
This him against swansea

What this doesnt show is that Vertonghen and Alderwiereld were pretty much our CM's in the last 10 mins and Trippier's position is skewed due to him playing RB and LWB

What I've seen, and with Winks today he did it a bit less, that in defense he picks up a lot of Dembele's role alongside Dier as that sort of side shifting enforcer and ball poacher with Eriksen a bit forward then in transition Eriksen drops a bit while Sissoko moves up the pitch into that more RAM role with the goal of pulling opposition players mid transition to free up space for Eriksen to operate (which he did well vs. Everton) or working the ball with another player up the pitch (which he did well vs. West Ham).

His role is to get on the ball and drive forward vertically from central midfield areas, then track back when we are out of possession. We just have so much possession and play such a high line that his heat maps look like he is taking up an attacking midfield position.

Pretty good game from him today, but Winks showed what we actually miss in central midfield when he plays there with Dier. I prefer him in that more advanced role and an actual ball player like Winks deeper.

He's definitely starting to do the right things and is making contributions, I'm happy for the guy. The fact that we're now getting some use from him is great.

Like said it's slowly improving. It started at Everton in which he had the right intentions and was doing the right things but the application was poor, was offside a few times in what should have been good chances and looked a bit clumsy still. Now he's still doing those right things but is looking a bit more composed and confident in those advanced positions and has even had a few assists to his name now.

That drive through the middle that he can provide is something that we can lack so much at times when the play is all a bit too slow and static. Hope he can keep improving!

He is a monster when he makes those runs of his. You can see defenders shitting themselves going 'oh fuck'. I think that is what Poch wants him doing, driving play from CM and taking up an AM position when we are pressing higher up the pitch. Good performance from him again in Cyprus and this is now looking like consistent improvement. We'll need him. Its a long brutal season.

Indeed!!

It's great that Poch has the coaching ability to improve our players. Too much in the past we'd sign a player and if they weren't any good in the first 5 or 6 games that'd be it; their Spurs career would pretty much be over.

I think we're all kidding ourselves here.

Last season he looked like he won a competition to be on the pitch. This season he looks like a footballer, but still a bang average one. Yes he's putting in more effort, but I'm not going to jizz my pants due to the fact that he's actually trying.

Rubbish. Say want you like about his performances last season but I never questioned his effort.
The quality of his play is better this season and he is playimg in a position that suits him better

Except he’s not been ‘bang average’ this season. He’s playing well. You’re letting his atrocious start with us cloud your judgement.
He’ll be a good squad player this season, and if we want to compete on all fronts, we will need him.
