Admittedly, I haven't seen Huddersfield this season, but their manager, David Wagner, had said before the season that they would stick with their high-pressing game rather than fall back into bunker style when they play against the bigger sides. He's basically been given the green light by the front office to stick with the style that got them to the Premiership, and to let the chips fall as they will.

I think Sissoko driving through the middle is exactly what we need, creating the space for our other attackers.

Lloris

Alderweireld
Sanchez
Vertonghen

Trippier
Dier
Sissoko
Davies

Eriksen
Alli

Kane

Winks and Son on the bench, assuming Dembele is still out as well.

We need to stick with 3 at the back and only change formation later in the game if we need to push for a goal. Assuming Wanyama and Dembele aren't going to be fit:
Lloris
Toby Sanchez Verts
Trippier Dier Sissoko Davies
Eriksen Alli
Kane
Hopefully, the bench:
Vorm KWP Foyth Winks GKN Son Llorente

Am i the only one who desperatly wants to see a cm partnership of dembele and winks? Yes it may be harsh on dier but with 3 cb's hes not needed half as much in games against teams outside the top 10. Lets get attacking. Dembele and winks have a great footballing makeup between them.

Winks should start this game and at home to Bournemouth. He's earned his chance. Also, we have a run of massive games against very strong sides who there's no chance he'll start against coming up. It's really not good for his development to only start the West Ham cup game over the next 6 weeks.

Lloris

Toby Sanchez Jan

Trippier Winks Dembele Davies

Eriksen Dele

Kane

If Dembele is not fit, then Dier. If Eriksen is out, then Son. This will be a tough game, midday kick off on the box, away to a piss ant team who will be right up for it

This; and when Sheringham and Jamie Redknapp are saying we should be matching City and chavs wage wise, it needs someone to say Spurs are run properly not funded by oil billionaires as a hobby!!
Thing these people fail to realise is that these clubs are funded by billionaires who can just raise the bar. City offer Kane 250k pw, we match it, City offer 300k pw etc etc.
We CANT match them.
Fortunately Kane is the most level headed, grounded, spurs through and through player we're ever likely to see.
He wants to win with US not just win.
As long as we pay him a fair amount he'll stay imo. And TS, MOTD, SKY ans those shit rag newspapers can suck my balls :finger:

As an Australian it will be a little strange for me watching Aaron Mooy come up against Spurs, when only 18 months ago he was dominating for the team that I follow in the A-League.

I really liked the space that Llorente's inclusion against APOEL created for Kane, so personally I'd like to see the following, although my expectation is that it will be Dele instead of Llorente. Although, if Eriksen is still ill then I guess you could go Dele in place of him.

Lloris
Alderweireld - Sanchez - Vertonghen
Trippier - Dier - Winks - Davies
Eriksen
Kane - Llorente

With the exception to Dortmund, every team we have played this season has happily sat back and looked to frustrate and do us on the break.

It is quite apparent that as a team, we do not move the ball quick enough, so teams seem happy to ride defensive luck and sit deep. Huddersfield won't be any different, so I would expect to see 11 men behind the ball.

Both Burnley and Swansea succeeded in this, so we now need to set a precedent in this game and move the ball more quickly. I would be tempted to play four behind Kane with Dier sitting, which admittedly may leave us slightly exposed, but also may help us get more attacking players into their area faster.

If this does leave us exposed then Sissoko could drop back to the centre., or we could get Winks on next to Dier.

-----------------------Lorris------------------------
Trippier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies
------------------------Dier--------------------------
Eriksen------Alli-----Sissoko-----Son
-----------------------Kane-------------------------

Subs: Vorm, Sanchez, Walker-Peters, Winks, GKN, Llorente

Edit: Dembele is not included as I do not envisage him being fully fit by Saturday. Could be wrong though!
.
Interesting post. Agree we generally haven't been moving it quick enough nor used the width of the pitch as we did last season mainly with different wing backs. But putting more people in more advance positions isn't necessarily a solution in an attach v defence match. I think we bigger problem was Kane and Alli off form, and a lack of ambition and urgency in the first half of matches. More a case of won't, rather than can't. Last season we got in front early in many home games, which drew most visiting teams out a little.

Don't want Sanchez out when he's fit and learning the shape, and the system allows Toby and particularly Jan to drive into the mids making an extra man. It's the movement with and and particularly off the ball that we need more of.

Would be interesting to see Llorente up top and Kane a little deeper in this one. Trippier will start so we have the ability to get the crosses in. Also think Winks has earned a start and I'd like to see him and Dembele in the middle. Doubt any of this will happen though.

Saw Huddersfield against West Ham were pretty poor. They will be delighted with a point and offer little going forward. Will be the usual having to break them down. For me team picks itself. If dembele is still out it's a straight choice between winks and sissoko.Id probably go sissoko as it will be a physical battle. And although I'm still not convinced of his use of the ball, his runs forward cause enough confusion to warrant selection.Would like to know how many we've scored by one of his runs creating space.3rd on Tuesday was defo his making ,creating a hole for Kane.

I'm assuming Aurier, Dembele and Wanyama are unavailable?

So Dembele's out then? We all know the team then. Shoehorning a poor player over a good one who actually plays CM it is!

Think thats a bit unfair on shoehorn, I mean Sissoko.

All joking aside, he's improving game on game, and the last couple he's actually played reasonably well. Maybe it's time to accept he'll have a big part to play in the squad this season and get behind him.

Winks just played his first 90mins of the season, he needs to recover and be eased back properly.

In light of the lack of Dembele, not comfortable with a 2 man midfield that doesn't include him, so:

Lloris
Trippier Alderweireld Vertonghen Davies
Winks Dier Eriksen
Dele Son
Kane

Vorm Sanchez WPeters OBoothe Sissoko Nkoudou Llorente

This really is an ideal game for Winks. Huddersfield's main game plan is to press, so his ability to wriggle away from pressure would really help.

Then we should start with Dembele (if available) for his ability to beat a press and then bring Winks on later in the game when the Huddersfield players tire out from that tactic. If Dembele's not available then Sissoko instead.
