I love how confident Davies is looking now, loves to try an ambitious run, pass or shot, and it's that confidence which has led to his game becoming much more direct and expansive.

Good lad.

Winks and Dier were good today, complementing each other well. Thought it was the best Dier has looked this season and love Winks speed of play in the center of the park.

Moment of the match: Davies yelling at Kane for being selfish in the box and not crossing the ball to him. Man is basically our 4th choice striker behind Son and Llorente at this point (sorry Dele).

Ratings:
Hugo 'Everytime you whack a ball I squeel' Lloris - 7
Keiran 'Remember my name... please... I'm a bit concussed and forgot it' Trippier - 7
Toby 'Hey Sanchez can I get that Central CB spot back mate?' Aldeweireld - 7
Davinson 'Shoulder checks not accepted at your local bank' Sanchez - 8
Jan 'Imma put that xG shit to the test' Vertonghen - 8
Ben 'Pass me the damn ball I got this!' Davies - 9*
Eric 'One day Wanyama will fly me away' Dier - 7
Harry 'Kicking the balls make you wish you build walls' Winks - 7
Christian 'Make my assists sing wild thing' Eriksen - 8
Dele 'Dive got a 10 from the Transylvanian judge tho' Alli - 7
Harry 'Basically just using goals to practice his fingering technique at this point' Kane - 9

Kyle 'You seen the size of some of these guys? Roids much?' Walker-Peters - 6
Moussa 'Goal and assist in one week? Just a normal average thing everyone. Nothing to see here' Sissoko - 7
Heung 'Can I wrap up this text to WimWim first? He sent me a heart and puppy emoji' Min-Son - 6

Well there you have it. Can someone go ahead and get the Ballon D'or ready for the first ever joint winners Harry Kane and Ben Davies?

Ok, lets start with the team selection. It was a relief to see Winks thrown in, maybe done with the idea that Huddersfield like to press and having a CM out there who is more comfortable playing under the press would be a good idea, or maybe it was just pure merit based on the options available. But notable is that not only was Winks picked ahead of Sissoko, he was also trusted in a reversion to the CM2 system. Really disappointing to see Alli out there again. The kid needs a break, two or three games to gaze at his naval. Not because I think we necessarily have a permanent, more viable alternative, but because I want to see this kid improve, add consistency of performance, better decision making and game play to his game. Become an all round better package. We get told a lot that Poch is a meritocratic coach, but Alli is not in that side on merit right now.

We also switched from 3331 back to 3421 today. I would like to think that it was because Poch had done his homework and knew that Huddersfield like to press and play a higher line than most bus parkers we play, and switching back to the 2 ACM system, we might just be able to capitalise if we can break the press and get Eriksen, Alli and Kane on the ball against isolated defenders.

If this was the plan then it worked a treat. Huddersfield actually started brightly, full of the chutzpah of a newly promoted team, yet to be put in their place, all good intentions and belief, that lasted 9 minutes, then followed a 15 minute blitz that thoroughly demoralised that early hubris. The first goal owed a lot to the quick thinking and intelligence of Trippier, who didn't just head a ball clear, he saw Kane isolated and headed the ball straight to him. The rest was all pure Kane. Still with plenty to do, Kane showed strength and guile to hold off his man, spun him, sprinted away from him with the ball and then slotted the ball away with precision, the narrow side of the keeper (the clever choice).

The next goal was possibly the best we've scored this season, and was again a result of dismantling their press and ending up, after a beautifully slick one touch exchange in midfield by Alderweireld, Trippier, Dier, Alli with Eriksen isolated up against their defender. Ironically, our most technically gifted player was the only one who let the move down, fumbling, but fortune favoured the fumble and the slick move was completed by their defender and my favourite goal of the day was beautifully dinked in by the excellent Davies. There are few finishes I like more than the dink finish, it's the hardest finish in football, and many a world class striker can't do it. It's easy to put your foot through ball and pray, but a dink requires intelligence to see, courage to attempt and a deft touch to deliver. Luckily Davies managed that triumvirate of disciplines to succeed. It was a fitting end to what had been a beautiful passage of football.

And this is one of the reason's to be in love with Pochettino. Not just because we scored a goal like this. Three years ago Walker and Rose were considered varying degrees of deeply flawed. Three years later their reputations appear to have been given intravenous boost of EPO. A year ago, Tripper and Davies were considered not even good enough to be back up by many (in Davies' case me included) but are now looking better than Walker and Rose. This is one of the things Pochettino does. He invariably improves players, gets the best out of them, makes them better players than they were. Davies now has as many assists and goals in the first 529 minutes of this season that Rose achieved in 1530 minutes in the (nearly) all conquering team of last season. Trippier was very unlucky not to add to his tally today.

Trippier and Davies were both excellent today, of the 9 key passes we made, they made 5 between them. Davies has ended up with a classy goal and a classy assist. And his improvement this season has been exceptional. I really didn't rate this fella much, especially going forward, but this season he's clearly been coached by Poch, and has taken it on board and applied it. It's almost like we've signed a new player. Trippier as well, was getting lots of stick after the Chelsea and Burnley games, despite just coming back from injury and not really being that bad. He's been excellent in the last two games, playing a big part in both wins (Apoel and Huddersfield). They both have minor defensive issues for me (but Walker and Rose weren't perfect either), but if Davies can keep up this attacking improvement, Rose can fuck off to the land whippets and nutty slack as soon as he likes.

The Dier/Winks combo was decent, so much better with a more metronomic player in there who could move the ball with a bit of vim, and I really don't think it's a coincidence that Dier looked more comfortable today than he has on other CM2 games, with a metronomic partner to carry more of the football load. Winks made more passes than any one ahead of the defenders, 64 at 87.5%, Dier 45 at 75.6%.

I didn't think the second half performance was terrible, but those criticising it shouldn't be berated, because judging by Pochettino's reaction on the sidelines, he agreed with them, and was clearly seen with vexed expression and heard bellowing his weirding word - VAMOOOSH - at one stage. And we all have seen what's happened so far this season, late points pissed away by sloppy mentality in two or three games.

Individual

Lloris - Decent game

Trippier - Very good game. Solid enough defensively, but brought some quality to our attacking play at times too, played a couple of lovely balls in tight circumstances.

TA - Good.

Sanchez - Another couple of very iffy moments but generally OK.

JV - Silk.

Davies I'm going to have to give him a MOTM again. Up and down, a great goal, a great assist, best performance in a Spurs shirt and better than any that Rose has put in offensively.

Dier - Decent game.

Winks - Very good game for a league start. In a CM2 he needs to be a bit more positionally aware at times, without the ball and I think he could press a little better at times, but nice to have a metronomic player out there and against today's opponents it was exactly what was needed.

Alli - I'm sure those with a pro Alli "agenda" (as opinions are now apparently called on here) will post to his involvement in a couple of the goals today as reason to swallow an inordinate amount of sloppy and stupid bollocks. Well, not me. What he did for those goals was what I want any player doing in this team. And what he did for much of the rest of the time was what I don't want any player doing. The nadir was him committing the ultimate of bumble sins, the dummy when no-one is behind you or has called for the dummy. This followed several occasions where he miscontrolled the ball, fell to the ground exasperatingly expected the ref to give him a free kick for being a clumsy ****, and I expect him to get a ban for the embarrassing leg he prodded towards their keeper instead of just having a better touch and trying to score. The boy needs a fucking good kick up the arse.

Eriksen - definitely a bit off colour today. Not awful, but not on it. Wasted a couple of good situations.

Kane - What can you say about this kid. He drives you nuts when he has a simple choice of passes and instead tries to dribble or shoot from the tightest of angles, but then produces the sublime, worked hard today too.

He can't get banned because he didn't get the penalty

Even after a game like today's where our little Dane wasn't either the best/second best player in our team for once, Beece still loves Eriksen enough to rate him twice. Classic.

Agree with you for the most part. I think Dele was okay personally, and in the first half at least he was involved in a lot of good play, but I do agree that some time out might benefit him.

As for Winks, yes we sacrificed some solidity by having him there, he'll never offer what Dembele can in that sense, but he was tigerish in the way that Modric was. Also, with three centre backs on the pitch and Dier in front of them do we really need a watertight central midfield? I personally think, and our recent approach suggest that Pochettino agree, that for the sake of more adventure in attack we can afford to give those centre backs a bit more work today than in previous seasons.

What Winks did do, for the first time at this level, is play from the start as he would in the final half hour of a stretched game. I think this points to fitness and mental development from him which should be rewarded with a start at home to Bournemouth, I was very pleased.

First half was just ruthlessly efficient. Huddersfield were brave/naïve and to be fair, especially in the opening salvo, didn't always make it easy for us on the ball and we never had complete control, but the times we did manage to play through the press we carved them open and raced into a 3-0 lead in next to no time. All three were good goals, but the second in particular was a great team goal as we played our way up field before a composed finish rounded it off.

The second half was just going through the motions, perhaps unsurprisingly (though Poch didn't look happy at times), and wasnt much to watch, we had a few opportunities, and apart from the briefest of moments we never looked threatened, eventually scrambling another goal right at the death. Didn't really get out of second gear, but another game that just shows what a high level we're operating on these days as second gear gets us a 4-0 win away from home.

Lloris - Not a huge amount to do. A couple of times where I thought he came racing off his line entirely unnecessarily spring to mind.

Alderweireld - As I said at half time yesterday, I do have concerns about him..... Last year post-injury he never looked back to his best, this season I honestly think he looks even worse. He is struggling at times with mobility, quickness of feet etc, being tentative, and so silly errors come about, he's looking more rushed on the ball at times, and he's starting to commit a few more fouls - which is a giveaway for me that he's finding it a little more of a struggle. Obviously he's still a very good centre back, but it would be nice to see him back to his imperious best which had him up there as one of the very best players in the league.

Sanchez - A few silly little errors, mainly in failing to make clearances, but a fairly comfortable ride overall.

Vertonghen - Solid but a little sloppy with some of his passing at times. Second half seemed a bit bored and went into attack mode.

Trippier - Best game of the season by far. Epic header for the opening goal.

Dier - Got rushed quite a few times in possession, solid enough game though.

Winks - Not an absolutely dominating performance, but very tidy for the most part.

Davies - Good game, and looking far more comfortable attacking space this season. Deserved the second goal for continuing his run when many would have stopped if nothing else.

Eriksen - Not awful, not at his classy best either, and maybe a little wasteful a couple of times. Still, he's allowed a 6/10 day every once in a while.

Alli - I am a bit puzzled to be honest about the amount of stick he is currently getting. This was another typical Alli performance, one that has been seen repeatedly since 2015. His work rate is ok, he's very slow and inconsistent (and often entirely needlessly loses the ball) in possession in general play, the boy comes alive and has a real talent when the ball is in the penalty area. I suspect if the ball rolls 20cm to the right and hits the net rather than the post then everyone loves him again.... My question is, how is it only two years in that people now are jumping on the bandwagon to now criticise him when his game hasn't radically changed... Coz the goals have somewhat dried up recently?

Kane - A bit wasteful at times, but this was another game where he was a real handful with his all-round play and he netted with two more impressive finishes. He just keeps on going...

Subs:
Sissoko - Lets call what happened - every touch when he came on was pretty brutal. The wasted cross after getting in a good position... The terrible shot from his first chance, the running round in circles ignoring three players before passing the ball back 20 yards to the Huddersfield striker... And then right at the death, he manages to just about scramble the ball in the back of the net - with a smidgen of assistance from the defender, and he's got a goal at long last. Maybe its his time...

KWP - Looked fairly assured in his few mins on the pitch.

Son - N/a.

Lasr season Walker was your no.1 whipping boy.....this season its Dele

I thought Sissoko gave their keeper the eyes and sent him the wrong way!!!
Gave the ball the eyes and it went the wrong way lol.
Seriously the I think its pretty safe to say the guy is a confidence player and he simply didn't have any last season. Some players don't let a bad performance affect them or whats written in the media, might not even read it but its looking like Sissoko isnt onebof them. He is getting better with every performance. Hope that continues.

This Dele Alii agenda really has to stop. Its getting ridiculous now from some extinguished members and other sheep jumping on the wagon, how anyone can say he was bumbling mis controlling bambi legged a basic liability some people make him sound like need to check themselves, thank God Pochittinho see's different.

Yes I understand we can't keep excusing the silliness Alli seems to get involved in, though it must be remembered he is still a young kid learning. Unfortunately the media seem to be looking out for another victim (Ashely Cole) and Alli sort of fits the bill isn't helping himself with another booking he received.

The way this season is going we are going to have introduce a bookies type "Without the favourite" rating system?
