Apparently Alan Brazil is today's self-appointed expert on building programmes.

Everyone has an "opinion", eh?

[I used to watch him when he played for Ipswich, as my partner in those days came from a Ipswich supporting family and we often went to Portman Rd. I don't recall any of his performances in his brief stint with Spurs. Good winger, though.]
He and the great and insightful Ray Wilkins.. They spend hours talking but they actually say absolutely nothing.. Wankers

Actually he said that no way would it be ready but then backtracked and intimated that 60% of it may be open. A general question for all - is it all or nothing?

And Alan Brazil was a centre forward. Bloody quick too.

You don't have to be a expert on building programs to see when a project is running behind.
Alan Brazil is clearly not an expert but he was claiming to "know someone", as he probably does know someone as he did play for us a few years back.
I've worked in the construction industry for 23 years and a lot of "building programs" are a crock of shite tbh. Not many large construction sites run smoothly, it's almost always a mad panic at the end with the main contractor throwing lots of hours and money to finish the job on time or not (Wembley rings a bell, where I also worked for a bit).

Unless the site is visibly deserted or it is very late in the programme, yes you do. As @Ionman34 and I have both said more than once - and we both work in the development/construction industry - you need to have a copy of the full building programme and familiarity with the job to judge accurately.

It is too early and this build is much too complicated to form any valid judgment on progress, based on general external photos of the site.

Do publicly stated checkpoints mean a jot?

For example if the club said the roof on by February or does the build program end up being more fluid than that, much like in my industry (software)?

Negative. Been fortunate to experience Crossrail though...
HS2 will be fun! We've had a shitload of protesters chaining themselves to trees to stop clearance. None of the muppets are aware that we're planting more than we remove, 1.3 million I believe.

If you have the money, buy a house in North Acton, property values will go through the roof when Old Oak Common station is finished.

Programme is king in construction. If you manage your programme properly you don't have to throw loads of money at the job.

I did a lane rental where we revised the programme daily. Knocked 2 months off the programme, saved hundreds of thousands in overhead and made a million in bonus.

The problem is those who ignore the programme, thinking they know better. There are two bibles in construction, programme and contract. Anyone who thinks they know better is deluded.

Who says the guy who said its behind doesn't?
I agree though it would be very difficult to judge what stage the build is at this point unless they were major problems

Depends on whether it is a milestone. There are some milestones that are bonus linked, I.e. Get the roof on by a given date, to use your example, you can get a bonus. Sometimes Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) are linked to programme performance and carry additional bonus payments. It all depends on the contract.

Mostly the concern is Critical Path. The programme will show the key activities that dictate programme length. If one of those goes pear shaped you get delay, which can be exponential if certain successor activities are dependent on key dates being hit.

This is why judging performance from the shell is misleading. Many of those activities may be non critical, so whilst it looks like loads of progression is being made, there could be a lot of delay because critical activities haven't been carried out on time.

I will stipulate that people like you and @Ionman34 are experts in this matter. I have actually addressed you personally when I needed some clarification. The thing is as I am a big ignoramus, I just make guesses based on nothing other than my judgement, which is usually crap, no intention of devaluing or undermining your expertise. It is just like a guessing game or challenge but fun for me. My views don't mean anything and it definitely wont have a bearing on whether it will finish on time or not.

Not knowing doesn't make you an ignoramus Bullet, just lacking knowledge on a particular subject. I expect I'm just as ignorant of your field of expertise.

I think what this highlights most is the danger of "opinion" without a grounding in either fact or, at the very least, reasoned logic. We're all guilty of it at some point, it's just experience that teaches you to hold off providing one before you've thought it through or sought to educate yourself on that particular subject.

I've embarrassed myself badly in the past by putting forward an opinion that got shot down by others more in the know. I tend to hold my tongue now. I still make errors though, but I welcome correction as it's educational. The ignoramus is the one that continues to cling to an opinion despite being shown how wrong it is, whether by someone more knowledgeable or someone with a more reasoned argument against.

Everyday is a school day and is never a waste when you learn something new.

edmonton on stadium on schedule:
I have very recent and very specific info on this one from someone who does know. Brazil can't be right. It may be a month or so late by the time we get to the end but no big deal. Very happy for you to ask the mods to check my info behind my post, as always.
