I don't get what you're saying in the last paragraph.

Other than run powerfully, I genuinely don't see what he brings to the team. Whatever happens on Tuesday we are going to need gifted players (quite obviously playing at the highest stage in club football) who can keep the ball, play with composure and in the case of Sisssoko or whoever plays in his stead, create or score goals. For me, he really isn't good enough for us even coming on at home to Bournemouth let alone away to Madrid.

Tbh he looked superb yesterday.Probably best I’ve seen in a spurs shirt.Real will be vulnerable to counter attack. It would be a risk but I’d play him.Whatever you say he has over 50 caps for France. And clearly likes a big stage as euros showed.

Work off the ball in a game like this is every bit as important. We need that balance of hard work off the ball, and a lot of defensive discipline, tracking back and tracking runners and being able to hold the ball for spells as well.

Sissoko can offer plenty in the hard work mode. Even against City at the lane last season he showed a great appetite for defensive work. We'll need this out there for sure.

We've got other players who can help us tick the ball over.

The balance has to be right imo. It's about putting the best collective out there to execute a game plan, not the best 11 individuals.

Fair enough, I thought he did ok yesterday and was cheering him on but I think the bar is so low that we overstate anything he does and exaggerate its quality. He was not superb, that pass at the end was woeful.

I appreciate he's an experienced international but that doesn't affect the poor quality of almost all his performances for us. Maybe something has happened since the Euros (he wasn't that great before for Newcastle), maybe he isn't fit but he just has been very bad for us.

We may need to counter attack but what's the point in having him if he fucks up counter attacks as he did yesterday?

How often in La Liga do Real Madrid come across a player like Sissoko in the middle of the park? Winks is a great prospect and has by far the greater technical ability but in a game where we're not going to see much ball, Sissoko is the right option in my opinion.

Tough selection. For sure aurier needs to play at rb as marcelo would dominate tripps.
Rm have a very inexperienced youngster at rb who could get exposed against a trick wide player like son.
I feel sissoko could do very well in a game like this. Madrid arent used to a player like him and he could force marcelo back if he plays on the right or he could bully modric and co in the centre if he plays there.
Do we play jan at lb?

Tough.

Why should Sissoko play? I hate being rude about any of our players but I think he's a very poor footballer so why would we want him in such a big game?
We'll be playing a different game to what we usually play. It's not as if we're going to dominate possession and RM are going to sit back with 10 men behind the ball.

He'd be there to do a marking job i'd imagine and hopefully give us some dynamism on the counter.

Expect a tactical surprise, even a ‘possible debut in CL’. Very strong possibility. Not talking about Winks neither.

Let's be fair, this is one of those very few games where we are underdogs and will cede possession and ability to the opposition.

Have to be tactically on point, resolute and look to counter efficiently without us leaving us too exposed.

If Davies is out then i'd be fucking loathe to have Trippier or Aurier at LWB and I can't see KWP starting at the Bernabeu so surely we will revert to a flat back four with Verts at LB.

Assuming Dembele won't be fit, then i'd look for something like this;

Lloris

Aurier Alderweireld Sanchez Vertonghen

Dier
Sissoko Winks

Son Eriksen

Kane

He's not a "poor footballer" No one gets to play for France 53 times if they aren't any good. He had a poor first season. This season he has played well in most games. He gives 100% and clearly Pochettino values him.

Whilst everyone is entitled to an opinion on here I have to say that I would value Pochettino's opinion more than yours in such matters and if Poch decides that he is the correct person to start against Madrid then there is a reason for that.

This is what I would go with...

4-4-1...

Lloris
Trips, Toby, Sanchez, Jan
Eriksen, Sissoko, Winks, Son,
Kane

With Dier, being Ronaldo's shadow.

I really want to shackle Ronny, he is their main threat, and somehow. I always feel when Ron is frustrated, Madrid tends to share the same feeling. Man mark him, when he gets the ball, double/triple team him forcing him to pass backward, keep a man on him so he doesn't get the ball. Annoy the shit out of him and I think we will have a chance.

I know Madrid has a lot of quality with the likes of Isco, Benzema etc etc.... But I always feel Ronaldo is the key to getting at Madrid. Sometimes we need to play the dirty game and try to pinch something on the counter.

It's not pretty football, and i know most likely that won't happen. But that's what I would do to get at Madrid.

why are people getting llorente from "possible cl debut"? he's already played in it twice for us and a bunch of times for juve.
Yep. Llorente wouldnt be a CL debut for us. I think it might be KWP at LWB with Vertonghen shifted back into CB.

Lloris
Toby Sanchez Verts
Aurier Dier Winks KWP
Eriksen Son
Kane

Dier to shadow ronaldo...... Im sorry but i really like dier and think hes a fantastic young footballer but he is nowhere near qualified to do such a job. Ronaldo woukd wrong foot dier time and time again and he would gave a yellow card within 15mins. If we had wanyama then maybe as he is more athletic, lively and mobile but not dier please.

I would value Poch's opinion over mine too, but this is a forum of fans' opinions.

In relative terms to the strength of our squad and our competitors, not relative to the other French centre mids, he is a poor footballer. He has not done well this season.

I'm not being unkind to him, have no reason to dislike him and will support him as ever at the Bernabeu on Tuesday. If Poch chooses to play him, I will respect that and not be one of those fans who thinks he is clueless or has lost it; he may well see something I don't. But this is a fans forum and thread on whom we would pick for our biggest game of the season and for me he is not up to it. I don't think that's an unreasonable position to take.
