If Poch chucks a half fit, little bit fat Rose in against Ronaldo & Co tomorrow night then we know all may not be forgiven from the summer :D

Seriously though, very encouraging that he has traveled. Did BD make the flight?
No pics or mentions of Davies

Since the draw was made we have been playing for second place in the group so if as expected we lose to Madrid home and away we should have enough to get through.

I think Amos has travelled.Surely not haha

Expeince. I expect all the uninjured first team squad players will be there, and a few kids as well. Won't hurt for them to get a feel for the big occasions.

Rafael Van Der Vaart: Tottenham have trump card to beat Real Madrid

Rafael van der Vaart was left speechless following Tottenham's last visit to Real Madrid but he believes Spurs now hold the trump card his team lacked.

Only 14 minutes had passed when Peter Crouch, already on a yellow card, flew in late on Marcelo in 2011 and was dismissed to consign Harry Redknapp's side to two Champions League quarter-final legs of humiliation and defeat.

Down to 10 men, Tottenham were crushed 4-0 in the Santiago Bernabeu and Van der Vaart paid a particularly high price.

He was shoehorned into Crouch's role of lone target-man, booked, and then replaced after 46 minutes by Jermain Defoe. A 1-0 loss at White Hart Lane confirmed a disappointing end to an otherwise exhilarating campaign.

"I was angry after, of course, in the changing room to be honest I found it difficult to speak," Van der Vaart told Press Association Sport.

"It all turned on that red card. We had started so well in the Champions League, it was really something special that year. It was a hard one to take."

They had taken the tournament by storm, inspired by the power of Gareth Bale and craft of Luka Modric. Bale demolished Inter Milan in the groups before Crouch's winner knocked out AC in the last 16.

Bale, who may not be fit, and Modric will both be donning Madrid colours when Tottenham walk out at the Bernabeu on Tuesday but Van der Vaart says their Spurs successors have something extra.

"We had four or five stand-out players you come to the stadium to watch but now with Tottenham you come for the whole team," Van der Vaart said.

"They need to use that against Madrid because this is the biggest difference now and also their biggest strength. They are a fantastic team."

Now 34, Van der Vaart's eclectic career is winding down at Danish club FC Midtjylland, perhaps the final stop on a journey that began in the Ajax youth system and continued via Hamburg, Madrid, Tottenham, a second spell at Hamburg and Real Betis.

But it was at Spurs, with Redknapp, where the Dutchman's creative talents were most allowed to blossom.

"What a manager, he just made us enjoy our games," Van der Vaart said.

"Before Real Madrid, the team-talk I remember was similar to always - he just said, 'they are a great team, no doubt, we have a great team too. We have great players in here and on our day we can beat them'.

"That was how he looked at football and I like a manager who sees the game in that way. It was true but we also needed 11 against 11 to have a chance."

Now Harry Kane is being talked about as one capable of following in Bale and Modric's footsteps in leaving Tottenham for Madrid.

"The thing is nobody says no to Real Madrid," Van der Vaart said.

"But when I see Harry Kane now at Tottenham, the club also want to be bigger and bigger, winning the league, the Champions League, with a new stadium. There is so much to play for.

"I hope he will stay. Real Madrid of course is something special but Spurs are special to him too."

I know it's Real Madrid but in the context of our season this isn't actually an important match.

The crucial match in this group is the away leg against Dortmund on Nov 21. That will decide who will qualify for the knockout stages because no way are RM going to miss out.

Meanwhile, we have a vital match against Liverpool on Sunday with much of our first team squad looking tired and jaded. if I was Poch i'd start the squad players and kids, park the bus, and kick lumps out of them til they wished they'd never heard the phrase "special relationship".

(Of course, if I was actually travelling to the Bernabeu i'd be furious if Poch did this ;)).
Disagree. We have beaten Dortmund at home already and they have lost at home to Real. Getting at least one point from Madrid home or away could be crucial assuming Dortmund lose away to Real. We could then even afford to lose in Germany and still qualify.

Rose must be closer to a return than we thought then. He won't play against Madrid but it shows they want him training with the team on a consistent basis. Wonder if he'll be on the bench against Liverpool and starting/sub appearance against West Ham.
All the available first team players will have travelled.

What’s the point of trying to qualify for CL every season in order to rub shoulders with the big clubs and then rest players when we eventually do play against the big clubs.

I would play our strongest available team against RM, especially now that they have a few players missing.

We are unlikely to win the league this season (although our min target should be top four), so it won’t really matter if we don’t get the three points this Sunday. Anyway, RM are a better outfit than Liverpool and we’d probably have one or two players back by Sunday.

Should? Not at all.
COULD? Absolutely.
But you can't gamble on it. You can't say, bah, matches vs. Madrid should be we written off anyway because we are alwys likely to lose and maybe we can even advance anyway.
No, you gather your 11 best match fit players and you send them out there facing one of the best football teams in all history.
Then you deal with whatever comes your way as a result.

I'm just worried about their defenders being very physical. Just hope we get our 1-11 back home fit.

If they resort to a kicking bout, they have much more to lose than us. Of course that is if we don't try to be the nice guys and give 10% more than we get.

Physical?

They'll go down like a sack of shit any time anyone goes anywhere near them.

If Dele was playing it might end up being a game of who can hit the floor first.
