No one can ever make the Carroll and Mason comparisons again to Winksy, the lad is something special. He actually bossed it against one of the best midfields in the world, we have some player on our hands.

Which is why it was infuriating whenever Poch wasted minutes on Carroll a couple of seasons ago with WInks showing he was already the better player with far higher potential.

Anyways the cream has risen to the top now; just a shame because we could have seen WInks emerge at an earlier stage if Carroll wasn't blocking his pathway back then.

Plays like a mix of Modric and Kovacic, fantastic young player and he always surprises me with how fast he actually is. Loved his little slalom run, shame he lost the ball in the end.

Mentally, he is quick. Physically, he isn't quick enough in my opinion. When defending, he gets beaten quite a few times (Real Madrid, West Ham) but that is absolutely no dig at Harry Winks at all. I love him and think he is going to be class, shown a lot of potential recently. I agree with your comparison to Modric. Reckon Harry will go the World Cup with England next summer and it will be deserved!! COYS

Once he irons out the few remaining kinks in his game, he's going to be on another level

This Spurs team is shaping up to be immense when we move into our new stadium

Winks was not physically ready for first team Football at CM 2 years ago. Crazy to sugest he was IMO.

I don’t think we should destroy Mason and Carroll just because Winks is showing a high level. Carroll is doing very well for Swansea and had some good games for us, Mason also played in a top 5 midfield and got England recognition. No need to trash these guys just because Winks appears to be better.

When you think of midfielders to come out of English academies in the last 5 years who are technically gifted they are a decent pair, certainly able to play at premier league level.

Exactly. It's not a case of Carroll and Mason not being good, it's just Winks is actually a pretty special footballer.

I agree too that Winks seems to have more, dont think he has actually shown anywhere near his potential yet, been quite safe. That said after his breakthrough season I thought Mason could kick on and yet he seemed to stop progressing.

Winks’ burst of acceleration is very impressive.

Outstanding performance from a 21yr old with actually quite few first team starts, amazing. He should be so so proud.

Really impressed with young Harry, to go to Real Madrid and play with such confidence was excellent to watch,

Between him & Sanchez (who is younger than Winks) we have two exceptional talents!

He didn’t look out of his depth once. Amazing for a young player with just a handful of games to his name.

When I saw our midfield was going to be Winks and Sissoko I was worried. Not because I don't think Winks is good....I think he's very good.....but walking out at Real Madrid against THAT midfield was a big ask. But what a great performance. Jamie Redknapp annoys me at times, but he was right when he said that playing in the game last night was the equivalent of 50 games worth of experience for Winks given the pressure and opposition. Well done Harry, fantastic performance.

The maturity and courage shown is the main thing; didn't go missing in a 'big game' where a lesser player would have been overawed

I'd like to see more of his attacking play (forward runs, dribbles, quick forward passing) because I definitely think he's got it in his locker. I suppose Poch needs to give him the freedom to do this, but last night was all about a more conservative game plan

PS These videos don't show 'off the ball' work, but I don't think there's anything we can do about that. Broadcasters don't do 'player cam' anymore. It's worth noting this aspect of the game though, because there are players who get criticised by fans who are actually having very good games defensively/positionally, which only those in the ground will see. This will then go some way to explain why certain players are picked by coaches, when they don't appear to be doing much in the televised matches

another vid which has been compiled, not by myself of course. It's great to watch and see how cool he was on the ball and what great passing ability he has.

He was very good but the one thing I'd like to see is for him to use his left foot a bit more. You watch modric and he is more than willing and capable of playing an accurate long pass on both feet whilst under immediate pressure. Would like to see winks develop something similar because i feel as though teams will begin to cut off his passing lanes. Imagine him receiving it and flicking it wide to either fullback with one touch. It's the dream.
