While they have plenty of pace that can hurt us, they also have a comedic back line that we'll regret not pressuring. In that sense, Llorente may be the right call again to make it stick up front, even though I think it's highly likely Dele will be back for this one.

It's the sort of game that could galvanize either side, so I hope we play with a mix of grit and precision that served us well against Dortmund.

Poch said in his pre match interview that Dembele had a reaction to his injury during training out there.

I think he’s slowly turning into Ledley and although Winks is doing very well and has a great future ahead of him we need to go into the transfer market for another CM.
No way, just play Winks! Thats the whole point of having an excellent youth team, bring Onomah back for next season as cover for Winks

I know Onomah is highly rated, but personally I haven’t seen anything to get excited about in his appearances for the 1st team so far.

I'd be perfectly fine having an onomah/winks cm rotation

Dont forget this is a club whose goalie has thrown the ball is his net not just once (Sprake) but twice (Grobbelaar)!!! Iffy defence.
So if we have a solid defence and neuter their strikers and play with fast counter attack we should win.

Suspect we'll see heavy rotation vs. West Ham, much to the chagrin of some, so I am more inclined to go guns out here. Both us and Liverpool are coming in off a high in Europe (sort of glad Liverpool got that out of their system midweek as I hate playing a top 6 team with something to prove after disappointing results).

Lloris
Aurier-Toby-Sanchez-Jan-Davies
Dier-Winks
Eriksen-Dele
Kane

If Davies is not fit and Rose needs more time then I'd swap him with Sissoko and ask Sissoko to track Salah and help Jan at LB. Would also like to see Son get some minutes as he feels like he needs a kickstart and has been stuck in neutral since Dortmund. Bet he and Dele start vs. Ham.

All of his appearances have been further forward or out wide where his skill set is completely nullified. Watch the highlights of him at the U20 World Cup for a proper showcase of his talents, very Dembele-esq.

I like how Sissoko is now a starting XI for some! Imagine him running at Liverfools, opening up even more spaces for our AMs and Kane to exploit!

Yes, his pace will be very much suited for this game. He definitely has earned himself a good starts this season.

Yeah but why sign someone to block Winks? He's surely showing plenty

It won’t block him if he’s good enough. Anyone who’s seen me post about Winks will know I’ve nothing but praise for him, but we need a big squad.

That means two good player per position. We have Dier/Wanyama for the more defensive CM and with Dembele slowly becoming a sick note that just leaves Winks for the other position.

I suppose you could argue that Sissoko has stepped up, but although he’d much improved I’m not sure he’s the long term answer.

Yeah I keep hearing this and I’ve nothing to refute that, but Poch has never played him centrally which suggests he doesn’t think he’s right for that role in his team.

Assuming we will be playing one DM plus a n other Winks won't be enough on his own. If Dembele is only going to be able to be used sparingly we need another in. I don't know how we intend to use him, but Barkley is still looking good for January.

I'd be shocked if we weren't back in for Barkley in January. We need more cover for CM this season and with his versatility he won't necessarily block the progression of Onomah into the first team if Onomah proves to be good enough. It would be a shrewd purchase that would really round out the squad and give us depth at multiple positions where we are a bit short at the moment.

Vorm Rose Aurier Dembele Sissoko Son Llorente
  1. If Davies is unwell, Rose in, Foyth on the bench.
  2. If Dembele isn't fit, WPeters on the bench.

The one side Poch has yet to get to grips with weirdly. Especially as every lower prem side has had their moments against them over the past couple of years it seems.

No high line, play the percentages, hit on the counter. It’s ok to surrender possession stats to this lot.

Would feel extremely confident if we had a full squad to pick from, but I’m pleased Mane isn’t available for them. We seem to give him so much space when we face him.

Am I right in thinking Llorente scored a cracking header at Anfield last season?

Could be a real good option late on to exploit their weak back line.
