To be honest I think you're looking at it a bit too simplistically.

Son is a better attacking footballer for sure but he blows hot and cold. Defensively though Sissoko is the more accomplished, positionally and in terms of tackling.

It's a bit simplistic to just compare the two without thinking about the balance of the side in general and which would be a better choice overall for the greater good of the side.

If we want to counter Liverpool we've got to be adept at winning the ball back effectively.

I think Sissoko's power to burst forward from deeper positions could really hurt Liverpool.

Personally I think the choice is between Dele and Son for this particular game.

I get that POV, I just don't see the argument for the balance of the side and the idea that Sissoko is this defensive beast. Son sticks his nose in just as much and pairs with the likes of Eriksen, Dele, and Kane more than Sissoko when looking to break. Dortmond is the perfect example.

He might not have been the one to break up the play, but that is just not in Sissoko's locker. IDK I for me I take goals, assists and just as much energy over a muscle.

Son and Sissoko play in different positions so I'm not sure why there needs to be a comparison, I think Son is fighting it out with Delle for his spot if anything.

Son was exhilarating against Dortmund.

Like others are saying though they don't really play the same role.

But Sissoko is definitely a harder working player off the ball, and is more likely to be in a position to break powerfully from deeper areas, which is why I'd play him.

The combination play between Aurier and Sissoko against Madrid was fantastic, those two could cause Liverpool serious problems.

To be clear I'm not saying in a straight choice With Son in particular, just that Sissoko ticks the boxes for the type of side I'd be looking to pick to tackle Liverpool most effectively.

Kane and Eriksen will definitely play, so the choice for me is between Dele and Son.

I agree that they don't play the same role. Sissoko does sit back deeper and almost partner whomever is in the CM role. Per the Madrid Heat Map here:

Whereas against Dortmond Son was here:

So I guess you are right for this game and moving forward. My bad, for some reason I was counting Sissoko in the top three whereas he is more a CM, which could explain his change in form since that is where he was having most of his success at the Euros.

Question for you two: Do you think Lamela could play a CM role like Sissoko? He has a great knack for tackling and his quick release and runs from the back could be interesting.

We need to play Aurier in this match. I like Trips but he's way too slow to play against Pool. I'd go with the set up and tactics we used against BVB.

Could we play son in support of Kane (the Ali role) and stope Dele deeper into the midfield 3 in the role sissoko has played recently?

Dele as a CM is a no no, even if it's a 3 man cm.
Why? He played well there when he first came to spurs and that was in a 2 man midfield. Box to box in a 3 would seem ideal and he can make late runjnto the box which is s bit tricky this season as he’s playing higher up the pitch almost as a striker

...same lineup as Madrid except Alli in for Llorente to inject some edge and prevent a post-CL letdown...

Back three is obvious, wingback also, we can only wonder if Trippier will play. I would like to see Sissoko again cause he was great against Real but he would have to replace one of Winks or Dier. Problem is that Winks also deserve to play and I dont' belive Poch will bench Dier. I would play him instead of Alli but it is also unlikely that Alli won't start. I'm realy curoius how the lineup will look.

I think it's pretty certain Trippier will play, we have 5 games in 14 days or something so rotation will be very important over this period.

109% Must win game if we want to still be in for the title given the points we’ve dropped at home already + city beat them 5-0 at home, yes they had 10 men but just saying.

I think this game will show how far poch and the team have come and our tactics will be really interesting as we’ve tried to go toe to toe with them last few seasons and it’s not worked. If we try a different approach like vs real and Dortmund and we get the win it shows we have a plan B and C and I’d say we’d still be in with a title shot, Wembley or not. If we draw or lose its game over for the title already. Huge game. Personally I think we will draw or lose this one, if l-pool are on it, if not we could sneak a win.

Just hope that Dier plays today. The press will go town if for any reason he doesn't start.

I think Aurier is more likely to play tbh
We'll see. I dont see why Poch would abandon what he's always done during such an important and busy period, makes no sense. Plus Liverpools only real pace will be coming down our left flank.

I don't see it as simply rotating players game by game just because, he's more likely to play players according to the opposition we're facing and Liverpool are likely to cause us more problems offensively than most other teams. Not to mention keeping a close eye on Coutinho who's almost certainly going to start out on the left.

Against Manchester United Salah started as right winger but after while Firmino moved there so Salah was also playing as striker maybe 20-30 minutes. How do I know? Gambling... Salah to score over 1.5 goals. (n)

Or do you mean Mane? He's injured. Thank you international break. Happy he's not playing against us. His injury is not that serious, just a few weeks..
