Well I was not expecting that! Second best by a distance since our 1st goal, but taken our chances when it counts.

I'll say the same again though... I can't see us not conceding another! Need to keep going at them

Oakley-Boothe's had a really patchy half, I'm still not sure on him. I know others (including Poch!) really like him so I've generally kept my mouth shut, but he has pretty big holes in his game IMO.

Edwards clearly has the talent to have been involved far more than he has IMO. On his only outing he was really good vs Gillingham. I find it baffling that he's not had a few more bench appearances.

Bennetts and Skipp could have been on the bench vs Barnsley IMO and should be tonight; you're right that there's no hurry but I just don't see the harm in doing so.

Sorry, I'm not debating Edwards' talent, that's clear. My point really is whether talent is the only determining factor as to whether or not he should be involved. And then beyond that, do his performances this season show that he should be given opportunities. I'm asking because I don't know, from the odd report I've read, it sounds like he's scored a lot of penalties, had the odd game where he's been very good, and then a fair few where he's been a bit on the periphery. I desperately want him involved and to come good, I just find it hard to really hold it all together.

Against Gillingham last year he was good, but that's over a year ago... I'm not sure how much that means now.

how do you determine what a high enough level is? i mean tob and georgiou are with the first team so seemingly performances only play a small part.

It's a great question, and I don't know. Again, honestly just asking questions. I'd guess TOB and Georgiou are showing something either in U23 games, or in training that is putting them further forward in Poch's mind? That and perhaps the positions they play have bumped them into contention slightly more?

He's definitely struggled so far.

i can see why Poch likes him, he's quite mature in his positioning, and seems to have a nice knack for nicking the ball off the opposition. But he's not fantastic on the ball from what I've seen so far.

TOB looks technically very accomplished to me, both in he second half today and in preseason.

Winks was being eased in before injuries to others last season. His progress was only halted by his own injury.Which he admitted was still giving him pain this season.Hence dropping out of U21 squad earlier. As soon as has been fully fit he has featured.Edwards obviously isn’t ready and is still 18.TOB has featured at 17.KWP is being eased in.To Say poch doesn’t give kids a chance is ludicrous.

TBF, that is not what IG said, he said he is annoyed doesn't give MORE chances, and whilst I agree with what you are saying, I can see where IG is coming from.

It is hard to say what level of impact injuries have had in Winks getting game time. To me it was obvious that Winks was being eased in last season and it was only hampered by injury and I have no doubt he would have got game time in some of those games he has played this season, even with Wanyama and Dembele fit, however, I doubt he would have the minutes he has now if they were fully fit.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you both, especially coys200, but injuries had nothing to do with how few league games Winks started last season. He didn't get injured until April 1st.

He started against Gillingham (LCup) on sep 21, then against Liverpool (Lcup Out 25) then eventually got his first league start in November in a 3-2 win against West Ham where he played well and got the winner. He then waits a month for his next league start against Burnley, plays well enough and we win. He then doesn't get another league start until April 1. In the mean time he was constantly available, on the bench or starting cup games.

Injuries didn't impact his availability until April last year.

I am very doubtful that injury was the real reason he didn't start any games this season until Huddersfield. He's played a full 90 in July friendly and has been available and on the bench every game since just about.

I think it is far more likely to be Pochettino reticence than a case of gradually easing Winks in, but the player isn't going to kick up a fuss is he, especially with a guy like Poch who doesn't take kindly to ambitious young kids getting impatient and/or arsey.
