I agree you want the header cut out ideally, but even with a challenge its always possible you might get a flick on... To not be in position in case this happens is the worst of the lot for me as it's entirely within your control. You don't just assuming your mate will win the ball, largely the whole point of defending is positioning yourself in case the ball runs through and you're there to deal with it.

I agree with all you have said no doubt ..... Even if there is a challenge you should always anticipate your man will lose that challenge and all ready be starting to make grounds on clearing that second ball up and we didn't. But at any level of football when a keeper launches the ball into your half, your CB has got to clean everything up - ball, man the lot, Toby was nowhere to be seen and while it's all "if's and but's" It was something from a Sunday morning defence-wise. Totally fucked off to be honest as i actually now expect us to take points from these grounds, unlike a few seasons ago - when i was happy if we only lost 1 or 2 nil. As good as we have been at not conceding over the last two seasons - i do feel we have difficulty aerially at the back.

This thread is a shit place to be at the moment. Grown adults acting like children. We have been desperate just to be here for the last 25 years. Yet we arrive and people are crying.

You know What, you lose away at the best sides. In the same way that we didn't lose at home last season. It's just the way that it goes.

It is a very job that our players have a better mentality than some of our fans.

Really poor from some of you.
Yeah absolute bloody winner. Let’s look to next weekend and beat Palace at home. Utd and City have Arsenal and Chelsea. Hopefully we make up a couple of points

Another thing - people are not giving this United team enough credit.

Yes, they've played some dull football at times, but they have quality players and depth, and arguably the best manager in the world. You don't get the record they have so far this season by being a shit team.

Not a good few days. Glad we got the League Cup off our backs though, we're above that now and have got bigger fish to fry...

No but having the easiest start of any club ever in the premier league helps.

I wouldn't disagree that it's a weakness at the back - and also particularly at defending set pieces (but that's another topic). I don't think you can expect to win every header, but there should definitely have been a better challenge.

Ultimately it's a poor goal to concede all round and if we're talking a good game about competing for titles it's not good enough to concede like that. In these crunch games we simply have to aspire to be better than that. Even in games we have got good results in recently, Madrid and Liverpool, we've seen that if you switch off and have a soft bit of play (losing the ball in our half twice needlessly) then you get normally get punished at the top level in brutal fashion. What we have to do as a team is take that step from doing everything right 98-99% of the game to as damn near 100% as possible.

Son shouldn't have been off.. Like Dele, he's the most likeliest to score exploiting the gaps appearing at the end of the game..

Spot on most fans keep on forgetting we never played in the CL forget that I can't remember the last time we played in Europe, I was happy finishing in the top 10.
Yeah. That team Spurs. Third in the league after a quarter of the season we might as well give up and have a multiple girly hissy fit. Grow some balls and get a grip.

I don't think they are shit. I am envious of the array of talent they have at their disposal. They have no excuse for not playing a sexier brand of football, and I think that's what people dislike about them.

Fuck me it is a good job you didnt support us 15 years ago. Grow a pair and enjoy the game.
I did support spurs 15 years ago in fact 45 years ago mate. The performance I saw Wednesday was reminiscent of 15 years ago, your right. Today was better but unfortunately we still go into Real Madrid on the back of two painful losses. And it looks like no Harry and people will undoubtedly start to call us a one player team. And.....

Helps a bit in terms of momentum, but we all have to play the same teams home and away over the course of the season.

They'll have a blip, so will City.

I think Madrid may teach us a lesson Wednesday

I disagree. We lost but we played well away to United without a few important players. Kane and Sanchez may be back and Dembele might get a start in the RM game.

A draw would have been a fairer result today. We were not hammered by United. We gave them a game and at times, we were the better side.

Mad how if you're pissed off at a result against a rival you're having some sort of breakdown. Hope the management don't wash over these things and think it's early days in season. There is a deep rooted fundamental issue at the club that before its solved will stop us winning any major honours. This isn't a knee jerk response to one result it's a disease that no matter how good our starting 11 is or gets will hold us back until cured. There is a huge chance that our golden era in the PL will end with nothing to show for it, there's nothing positive to be taken from that.
