I saw a statistic that City have tied the best start of any club in Premier League history with their 28 points out of 30 start. Coupled with their ludicrous +29 goal differential, and the countless chances they actually waste each match (there were at least 5 clear cut chances against West Brom they failed to finish today), and you really can't help but acknowledge that they are a vastly improved outfit to last season. They've been at the races since pre-season when they blitzed us, and the fact that arguably one of the greatest players of the Premier League era, Sergio Aguero (still in his prime scoring at will), doesn't even start for them now, shows their strength in depth.

If we want to win the title, we're going to have to do it by earning a club record points haul of 90+ with a record like 29 wins, 5 draws, 4 losses. It's a big ask, but even next year away from Wembley, it's going to be the same. City, United and Chelsea are going nowhere, and they still have limitless funds. But right now, this is the best squad we have ever had and with only two competitions until January (with CL qualification not far away), we need a strong run of form soon.

We are not winning it anytime soon we don't have the depth of the others or the pockets to match them, our main concern is keeping the players we have which is hard in itself.

We are not winning the league.

Aims have to be top 3 sewn up as soon as possible, winning the FA Cup and see how far we can get in the CL.

You lot are hysterical. After Liverpool it was game on haha.City will lose games. Had Kane started today he would have made something happen in 80 mins before they scored. We have the best defence and best striker. We won’t be far away.84 pts to play for literally anything could happen.

Well it’s big weekend next weekend;

City v Arsenal
Chelsea v Utd.

In all reality we need to get past the international break, it’s when historically under Poch we start to kick on. Bearing in mind Wembley, to be effectively in the next round of the CL and in decent shape in the league can’t be sniffed at.

Literally anything? Like the ghost of Elvis turning up on a giant unicorn and flattening the Sheik Mansour team?

Some embarrassing comments in.here.

Of course it's a tall order against a side that has been spending with an open chequebook for years.

But fuck me, we didnt win today at a ground every side finds difficult. A draw would of been a fair but we switched off for 30 seconds and that decided the game.

To be fair, we had a much tougher rosta coming into this than United, Madrid away and then Liverpool - with young Winks marshalling the midfield.

It was frustrating but nothing is decided yet.

As Ferguson use to say it's how you respond.

We now need to go on a big run until we face city away.

It's easy to take this sort of view as one of the "lucky" teams that gets to be part of the big six club. I remember the jealousy and hatred I had of the "Sky Four" until very recently as it seemed we were never going to be in a position to compete with any of them. The big four became the big six because City won the lottery and bought their way in and Levy has performed absolute miracles at Tottenham. Leicester won the title in an absolute anomaly season, but nobody else has come anywhere close to challenging the elite clubs for any stretch of time without an injection of oil billions.

It's easy to take this view as anybody who has watched the premiership for a few years, not to mention a fan of one of the teams that has broken into the former Sky4. But we used to moan that they got slightly easier fixtures or favourable reffing. I don't recall anybody thinking that our ceiling was genuinely stuck at 5th. Indeed, anybody could see that there'd be a time when Fergie and Wenger would wane or retire and unless they made a seamless transition to a top new coach then there'd be all to play for.

Moan about the cost of tickets (and perhaps vote with your feet) or that a dogshit plastic burger costs £5 or that the beer is warm but to moan about an entrenched big 6 is nonsense

No reason why can't win the CL either. Obviously not easy, but anything can happen in a best of two type of competition (assuming we make it out of the group).

Worse sides than us have won it
Agree..the top sides are not what they were. Barca have Paulinho and delofeu(ex Everton) starting for them..certainly not up to standard. Depends if Madrid pick up but at least we avoid them n next round if they go through

If, and it’s a big if, we beat RM on Wednesday, we’d have taken 4 points off what most people would consider the favourites.

City have got this. I’m sorry but they really have. The harmony of that team, and the sheer depth of options is staggering.

We have Kane injured and immediately we look stale. This is less than 7 days after our best performance of the season.

It says everything. We need to find a way to compete like we did last weekend, but without Kane. If we can’t then we won’t be winning the title any time soon.

To pinch the words of Alex Ferguson when questioned at the start of the season(a season they won the league incidentally) as to how on earth they were going to compete with the vast sums of money being spent Manchester City.

"We'll be up there"

Of course they have got it I'm staggered that some feel we are in this we are not but we are in a top four race for sure.

Like we did last season you mean? Today would have been tough even with Harry in the team but as soon as he was out it was always going to turn into "Spurs can't do it without Kane". What would be good is if our own support didn't buy into such drivel.

We have 7 games till we play them. The hardest being the NLD.Basically we need to win all 7,Which looking at them doesn’t seem beyond us.They have Arse and united before they meet us.If they dropped 4 pts and we win all ours and beat them it’s game on.Simples lol. We certainly need the stars to align.

Reading through this thread, it's unbelievable how some of us are so easily willing to just lay down our arms and say "fair enough lads, we gave it out best shot".

We're, what, nine, tens games in? Okay fair enough we're eight points behind City (who have been incredible so far). It ain't the end of the world. There's always a chance they'll slip up and allow the rest of us to catch up a bit with them.

I'm not saying we're out of the race until we're in the final straight and it's mathematically impossible for us to catch whoever's in first. We need a bit of belief.

We're at a point now where our squad is at it's best it's been in decades, we're capable of stringing multiple wins together in a row and to get into the mindset of throwing in the towel now would be silly.

It's only October, lads. For those of us who are of the glass-half-empty mentality, atleast wait until the new year to come around before admitting defeat, there's plenty more football to be played

Come on you fucking Spurs

Even if they rearranged the fixtures so we're always playing catch up as with Leicester or Chelsea? Just to heap more pressure on us. That might not make us crack, but it would certainly be an added burden to carry.

A lot of those fixtures would have been down to the fact we were still in the Europa at the time they started thinking about their upcoming schedules. Sundays was the easiest time to guarantee we could make a TV slot without a crystal ball.
