There is no doubting that when considering our net spend and that of those around us we are doing extremely well.

But fans are often looking for a consistency in a world where it doesn't exist.

Liverpool almost won the league on the basis of a well-organised defence and midfield and two quality strikers at the top of their game.

They expected to continue putting in title challenges but selling Suarez and Sturridge getting injuries resulted in them going back to top 6.

We have two of the best centre backs in the league, the highest chance creator in the league and the best striker in the league. Regardless of how much we paid for them we have a team right now capable of challenging at the top.

We might not consistently put in title challenges but we have a quality side and should be competing.

Liverpool haven't had an organised defence for decades as the Rodgers side your quoting conceded over 50 goals that season which is relegation form.

They didn't win the league because they conceded way too many goals.

My point was they almost won the league with a less talented team than we have now.

Just because we haven't spent doesn't mean we can't compete. The quality on the pitch is what counts and right now we have it.

I actually don't think we are crazy much ahead any longer of the assumed most realistic scenario. This is Pochettino's fourth season, and we can look bak on one minor cup final and two CL campaigns, one of which failed utterly. Am I happy overall? Yes. Do I think we are heavily outperforming an assumed 5 year plan, knowing that we are in year four? No.

Although we have been 3rd and 2nd we have never actually been top of the league at any time after equal games..apart from a couple of hours one day when Leicester were playing after us.

Not sure I know any world manager that would have accepted that remit based on £9m net spend. Most would have laughed in Levy’s face. If poch did he he’s either brave or foolish.

I don't think he's brave or foolish. I think he's got a clear picture of what he wants and has confidence in his (and his staff's) ability to deliver.

When was the last time Arsenal even had a sniff of the title going into April.Honestly Cant remember.Imo we’ve vastly overperformed in the league the last 2 seasons. In most normal seasons our points tally last season wins us the title. But Chelsea broke the most wins in a season. I hate to say but have a feeling it could be much the same this season with a Man City invincible type season.

Agreed, they were as good as that shower that turned up at Wembley two weeks ago.....

Problem with playing such brilliant football is that when it isn’t working , it usually ends in a defeat . That defence is still not very good when under pressure . Keep within 6 points and we’ve got a chance.

I’m as guilty as most on here. But I think sometimes a reality check is needed.I’m almost certain when poch took over his remit was to make us a consistent top 4 club. I very much doubt winning a title or CL was mentioned.I’m sure the plan was something like let’s try and be top 4 till 2nd year in new stadium. Then we can think about increasing spending and wages. How we have assembled this squad on a net spend of £9m is truly insane.Whether by brilliant management scouting or luck i’m Really not sure. Consider in the last year or so both Manchester clubs have spent £300m net each,to be able to compete with us.
The trouble will Obviously be trying to keep this squad together for another 2 years. If we can do then we may have a chance to seriously challenge. But can we ever really compete with Might of Manchester I’m not sure.I know it’s hard to not carried away sometimes and think we should go to OT and win. But currently we are seriously punching. It’s the equivalent of force India competing with Mercedes and Ferrari. It’s quite baffling how we are even in this situation.

We don't have to be better than Man City and Man Utd to win the title. We just have to be better than and beat all the other teams in the league.

There’s a big difference between talking about winning the title and Champions League and actually doing it. Right now we are a consistent top 4 club.
We are where Arsenal were when they moved from Highbury to Emirates

And when we were beating Arsenal 2-1 before Poch took Lamela off and then Sanchez equalized :(

Bored crapless of net spend, or the 'we do things the right way' or glad were not doing it the city way.

It's not all about winning an effin trophy either, it's about enjoying a game of football in whatever way you can.

Alot of reasons to be positive but stop with the net spend. If they made trophies like the Carabao net spend cup or the champions of net spend league, then we can talk.

Which is crazy considering they went from multiple title winners to that position due to the stadium whereas we have risen from top six up to this equivalent position during the same process.

Arsenal haven't hit 80 points since 2007/08
