Danny Rose looking at the players he had to Google from the bench as they smash Real Madrid.

Sorry A&C but not even the most devout anti Levy-ist can deny that the training ground, the revolution behind the scenes through Baldini, and the appointment of Poch were down to Levy. Forget the money spent on players(which could be better) because these are three huge factors leading to where we are now as a club

This genuinely intrigues me... I thought it had been established that Baldini was a failure by and large. What were his lasting contributions to our present day success?

I noticed that when the teams were named. For all the talk about how weak our bench was during the United game, this was the strongest bench I can remember us putting out for a big game. To think that we just absolutely battered the reigning European and Spanish champions with Son, Rose, Aurier, Wanyama and Lamela not even on the pitch and Alderweireld going off injured in the first half is unbelievable

Feckin journos, suck my plums.

Hope Spurs and Real Madrid still have that "special relationship," tables turned bitches, not long now and their best players will be yearning to sign for Spurs.

Whack that on your back page Marca. Your boys took one hell of a beating.

They'll probably put it somewhere inside, with the headline:

I don't think it's so much bias, more that many pundits/journo's massively underestimated just what Levy and Poch have built from the ground up.
Pundits and journos are totally blinded by big money clubs and players. Money is the motivating factor in the media, not heard one comment about the fact that we have 1/3 resources of RM, City PSG etc.

I thought our bench was stronger than Madrid's last night

Listen to this if you have time. Won’t hear so many nice things being said about spurs by the media and also pat nevin (ex Chelsea) and Ian wright (ex gooner) in a long Long time, enjoy!!

Don't know if it was in that link or the actual commentary, but Pat Nevin was making the point about how versatile and adaptable our squad is - and how we can cope well with players missing.

Think that's a good recent development - signing Sanchez and Llorente the emergence of Winks, Sissoko v2.0, even back to signing Wanayama last year gives us a lot of options.

It's Eriksen I worry about... think we'd miss him more than anyone else if he had a problem...

I agree but we are starting to create more quality chances coming from other players which could offset an Eriksen loss. Winks emergence as someone who can dictate tempo would be huge but Kane's development as a passer would also help offset Eriksen missing a match or two. Still, he would be a big miss if out for more than a couple of matches.

This genuinely intrigues me... I thought it had been established that Baldini was a failure by and large. What were his lasting contributions to our present day success?

The reason he was seen as a failure was because too many people saw him as a director of football responsible for signings etc. While he certainly had a big input in transfers, he was actually employed as a technical director responsible for a lot of the stuff that was happening re Bulls Cross, youth set up, players diets etc. I'm sure some of that has changed a bit with Poch putting his own mark on things, but the general professionalism changed with him.

Ask yourself if he was no good, why when he said he wanted to leave, did Levy persuade him to stay on an extra few months?

I have posted in length about it previously(more than once), so you could search for it.(y)

Yeah the Irish commentary team in the RTE studio last night said before the game that Spurs didn't have a squad big enough to compete, just the core 11 or so players and that's where Spurs will fail due to lack of quality in reserve.

And yet some clowns are saying that we beat a weakened Madrid side and they only had youngsters in the bench. I say BooHoo.

This. Plus the fact that not too many are ex Spurs players and they fear that our progress will continue. Spurs are developing in a sustainable way, not fed by oil money or stolen Russian money. We have good young players coming through the academy and have spent virtually nothing on transfers over the past 5 years. Yet we have finished 5th or above for 7 out of the last 8 seasons. The pundits are now starting to realise that we are only going to get better, that top quality players now want to come to us and that their clubs will no longer find us an easy win and always be finishing above us.

The sleeping giant is waking up!

Love it!

I just hope when we get into our new stadium we will continue filling it (as I reckon we will going by White Hart Lane Attendances and the waiting list to get tickets) as well as the other facilities like hospitality suites and NFL bringing in income allow us to match clubs wage-wise so we don't keep being under thread about other clubs throwing money at us (as not everyone will play for us out of love like Kane).

And we continue looking to our youth rather than splashing silly money like some of the other clubs to, just use the income to ensure those already at the club are put on parity with people are (not that I agree with today's wages but unless something overall is done about it unfortunately we probably gotta pay the money to keep the players long-term).
