Sportsmail understands West Ham’s London Stadium is among the venues Chelsea chiefs have checked in on in recent months...

Oh this would be magic.

RLC, Abraham and Solanke now in the England squad. Solanke already left on a free, will be interesting to see what happens with the other lads. Ridiculously good (and uber expensive) youth system, rather wasted so far...

(P.s. mad when you think two more of England youth's striking stars, Nketiah and Brewster, were Chelsea youth players but have already left to Arsenal and Liverpool to pursue their pro careers.)

Is it though if they sold Abraham and RLC in the summer. Say they got £30 to £40 million for the pair then you've got to say it's been worth bringing them through.

Their youth system is all about selling players to create finances, not actually playing the players.

I don't disagree in that sense, although they did lose 3 of those mentioned for free so something isn't quite clicking.

They have a system and they gamblenif youngsters who they loan out and sometimes they sell at a decent profit. It’s just a means to an end. Young footballers will not be to worried about joinging them. They’d get above average wages, work with world class players and coaches, get their chance to go on loan and no qualms from Chelsea about selling them on. Sounds like a cushy number to me

This might not be popular, but as long as the pitch was up to it, I wouldn't have a problem with sharing NWHL for a couple of seasons with them.
I know they hate us, but I really am indifferent to them.

Probably couldn't easily happen due to planning restrictions - but with both clubs having extended runs in the CL and cups, there could be 60k there every few days - that has to help pay the bills.

They would rather spend £40m on Danny Drinkwater who was surplus to requirements at Man Utd instead of playing RLC.. Where's the logic in that?

All those wasted hours arguing about whether we could share Wembley and their not even going to start work until at least after we've moved in to ours

Indeed. I can summarise my reaction to this astonishing news in this tl;dr: "I told you so" ;)

Chelsea are understood not to be concerned by the planned 2024 move-in date, with their initial schedule always thought to have been optimistic.

I don't believe for a second that Chelsea's own timetable assumed they would be competing with us to use Wembley this season or next. The newspaper reports dreamed that up, so they could publish "Chelsea battle with Spurs" headlines to generate clicks.

It took Arsenal the best part of a decade, it's taking us the best part of a decade and it's going to take Chelsea the best part of a decade to build a new stadium. Because that's how long it takes to undertake a major development project in London.

Arsenal had 30 landowners to get off their site. We had a financial crash land on our heads, just as we were getting planning consent. Chelsea have an impossibly constricted site, with railway lines on two sides. There are no simple developments in London.

Could you imagine if they won the PL at our place before we did?! Not sure I could live with that

It's very common and has to be considered for all developers. I'm dealing with this exact issue right now with a rural development I'm involved in, but it affects urban schemes nearly as often.

What it doesn't do it to prevent development in the long run. It can cause delay, especially when (as often is so) a bullish and ill-informed developer reckons he can just ignore it or thinks it a ridiculous notion.

All species of bat are protected. A problem arises when there is a bat roost anywhere near a building site, because the disturbance and noise of construction disturbs their hibernation and drives them away. The solution is generally to provide an alternative bat roosting site nearby before construction begins, or at least before the first winter hibernation season after construction has started.

From the article (which is a few months old), it sounds as if the night-lighting at the stadium will also cause potential disturbance, although I'm not clear how this will be worse than what is there already. As usual, the article is making a commonplace problem sound like a crisis. They just have to do the surveys and come up with a bat protection strategy.

On that rural development I'm involved in, we're presently waiting for the bat surveys to be conducted. We have to survey for pine marten habitat as well. Wherever there is a site with ponds or wetlands, you have to do newt surveys.

Another aspect of "there are no simple developments in London".

Chelsea just do not bother me.
To me they are still the second division side that brightened up Sundays on the Big Match.
Butch Wilkins, 6 inches of mud, jumpers for goalposts...

When the Ruskies get bored, then they'll return back to the championship.

I’ve always thought their stadium plans were just dick measuring bullshit.

Everyone else getting one around them, sugar daddy feels left out.

They’ll struggle to fill it if it ever gets built. Good luck in that area too! You think we had trouble with our neighbours!!!

They'll fill it, but like West Ham it'll be a lot of tourist tickets at first. Loads of kids support them cos they've had recent success and are always in the news now. Plus players like Hazard , Morata etc... attract kids to the team.
