Such a shame now the Swiss will be celebrating the only way they know how.
Winding up their Cuckoo Clocks, eating chocolate and checking their on-line bank accounts!

I was hoping that both Irish teams could have made it. Now I'm praying for at least one of them.

Fuck me, just finished watching the game, that was a good old fashioned "70's FA Cup" mud slog, completely and utterly ruined by having to listen to that fucking ginormous cock Armstrong, rant on and fucking on. It was like having to watch an Everton game with Everton Fan cam providing the commentary whilst simultaneously playing a fucking vavazoola. Every time an Irish player fouled it was an "embarrassment that the ref had bought", every Swiss foul a red card. Ireland's 5 minutes of possession from the 60th to 65th minute turned into "total half domination" and "the greatest performance by a N Ireland team in history".

Completely ruined the enjoyment of what could have been a really enjoyable tussle with loads at stake. I ended up wanting Ireland to get fucking hammered just to shut the stupid prick up.

As it was the better team went through, but their incompetence in front of goal made it much tighter than it should have been.

Northern Ireland and indeed the Republic are minnow countries in World football.

The population of England alone is 30x that of NI and more than 10x that of the Republic so there is a much smaller pool of prospective talent to draw from.

This fact alone gives me cheer.

And N Ireland has a population 6 times that of Iceland, who qualified automatically and did so without forcing its punters to have to listen to Gerry fucking Armstrong.

Oh yeah - the Iceland that beat England in the European Championships last summer.

My theory gets badly shot down in flames. But having to endure Viking war chants wasn't fun either.

Watching Gerry in his heyday at Spurs wasn't the best of times either but he made the grade at the time

Not to mention the Swiss army issuing a limited-edition knife with a special commemorative blade.
(Yes, I've just been watching the Smith & Jones 'Swiss News' sketch on YouTube.)

Sad news of an ex-international ahead of tomorrow night's game.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/41966734

Hadn't given him a thought for years until yesterday when I saw him score a cracker for Sunderland on Premier League Years. Like so many, was tipped for great things but didn't go that way on the pitch. Let's hope the 'great thing' is beating cancer.
