I know it's tough doing business in January and it wouldn't have been the plan, but considering Dembele's sharp decline, Wanyama's fitness, Winks' inexperience and Dier being used at Cb, do we need to be searching for a CM to plug some gaps in the second half of the season?

Bring back Onomah rather than make a signing that just plugs gaps.

New signings take time to settle, get used to poch’s methods etc.

Completely agree mate, but I don't think that looks likely at all.

Agree with the last bit and in that case I’d rather see tob given a chance than some average player come in.

Unless it’s real stand out quality I don’t see the point in signing a player in the same position as we have u20 and u17 World Cup winners

Been beating this drum for a couple years now, but Charles Aránguiz. He has the bite and the passing ability.

I bet we don’t buy in January. There was an excerpt of Poch’s book where he said he was happy to get through the window with no transfers in or out. I bet it’s the same again.

I don't think an excerpt from Poch's book about last January has much bearing on what we'll do this January.

Not really sure where to put this but is anyone on here familiar with a young Mexican attacking midfielder called Chucky Lozano (I think Chucky is his nickname!)?

I'm not an ITK in the slightest but have posted a few times on SC in the past because an ex-colleague of mine is pals with a football agent who does a lot of work in the Americas. He told me about Enner Valencia before he moved to West Ham and occasionally he'll get told when English clubs go in for players over there.

Anyway, this Lozano kid is considered to be a pretty special talent and he says there are a few EPL clubs trying to do a deal for him.

Don't know any more than that and I have no idea if we're one of the clubs. However, thought I'd pass it on as some of you guys might know about him.

I think we need both (onomah and a signing), especially if we are going to play CM3 systems as we have been.

When all are fit we've really only got Wanyama and Winks as proper CM's. Even when fit, Dembele's not fit.

I've mentioned him elsewhere but not in here I don't think but there's a kid at Lyon who's just started getting games called Houssem Aouar. He's only 19, but I really like the look of him. Plays as an 8 in a CM3, he's tenacious as fuck, but can play bit too, comfortable in possession, neat and tidy, moves the ball quickly and plays with his head up and looks to play progressively.

If we get rid of sissoko and depending on dembele’s long term fitness I’d agree, I get that you don’t rate dembele particularly but I don’t want to overload the midfield so there isn’t enough game time to go around

How the dickens do you pronounce his surname?

I think it’s likely we’ll go in for Barkley, like you I’d never want to see him in a cm 2 but I think he’d be alright in a cm 3 with 3 cb’s behind him

I've always acknowledged and appreciated his (Dembele's) qualities - just think he had deficiencies too - and for a team that struggles to transition quickly against bus-parkers I think those deficiencies were under played by many because they like to see a player dribble.

Whatever the debated pros and and cons of Dembele, he's struggled to stay fit throughout his time with us and now he's just plain fucked. Football's getting faster and faster and cleverer and cleverer, he's going in the opposition direction.

Ay-ou-arr (I think??)

I sincerely hope we are not buying him to play there, even in the 3cm system. Better than Sissoko I guess, but then, who isn't? Even as the AM, I'd rather we were a bit more ambitious and went for Fekir, but I'd reluctantly live with Barkley as an AM but for CM we really need to get someone bloody good, as we are very weak there IMO, not another makeshift solution (like Barkley) that ultimately is a fudge.
