Im not quite sure the science supports this...

Well he's clearly substantially heavier than he used to be, and the bulkier he's got, the more muscle injuries he's picking up. He also doesn't seem able to sustain long sprints any more, whereas with us he could happily run the entire length of the pitch at full pelt. Now he only seems able to operate in short bursts. He used to operate like a medium / long distance runner, now he's built like a sprinter. So to go from being a ridiculous physical specimen who could run longer and harder than any player in world football, to being barely able to play a half without doing a calf or a hamstring...something is clearly out of equilibrium in his body. And given the one obvious change is that he's piled on a ton of muscle... hard to see beyond that as a root cause.

For me, IF (he won't, but if) Bale ever came back, it'd be in place of Dele, not Eriksen. He, like Dele is more of a battering ram than an artist and as good as his Left foot is, he's too selfish to play in the Eriksen role. A front three of Kane Dele and Bale would be great against a number of teams, but there is that missing link, that individual that can pick the lock if Kane and Bale's shoot on sight efforts aren't finding their target. Eriksen needs to be there to add a different dimension, to put the ball on the end of their toes further up the pitch.

I wouldn't have him back, mainly because he's too injury prone and I'd be concerned that his wage/immediate top dog status would interrupt the balance in the team. It's a nice idea and if he was crushing it in Madrid week in week out (he wouldn't be for sale, but...) then it would be a no-brainer, but it's an injury prone older player taking the team/squad space of a younger also highly talented player. It just doesn't make sense to me.

I love Bale as a player and it hurts me to say this but the gamble would be too much and I just think his return could destabilise the most consistent spell I have seen in my time. It could also be the final jigsaw piece but I honestly think Poch will get where he's trying to go doing things the way he is doing them. I don't see Bale returning fitting in to that. But if he comes back and we win everything in sight I won't be disappointed.

A major concern is his fitness. Added to that will be his enormous salary. A fit Bale at decent salary is a no brainer - but also not very realistic.

We're still talking about Bale? Seriously? No chance.

Sign Pulisic(no itk and a pipe dream but he'd be perfect for us, IMO). Sell Sissoko and GKN. AM's of Eriksen, Dele, Son, Pulisic, Lamela, Edwards. Sorted.

You go from ‘no chance’ to ‘pipe dream’ and this is a Bale thread so you may as well say ‘Bale won’t sign, I’m having spaghetti for dinner tonight’.

We dont have hundreds of millions to drop on getting Bale back and dont have hundreds of thousands in weekly wages to drop on him

To all those against him coming back....

What if

A) With his injury record and the fact he's 4 years older, he'd actually be worth a decent amount less than £85m and
B) We could make a similar deal with Real as the deal with City for Ade (or sponsors) to help with his wages.

Surely worth a punt. And tbh, I think every some one of us would die a little inside if he joined any other English club.

Could not give one shit personally.

If he went to United/City/Chelsea it means that despite being at his best with us, he would likely be more successful with them. That's gotta hurt.
Not to mention the fact it would be used as a stick to beat us with.

He'd be worth more than we got for him. Especially to an English club. If a clean bill of health can be proven on scans and what not, RM could command alot more than £85m. He is one of the best players in the world when healthy. If fitness can be proven, and he plays a few months unhindered by injury, he'd be worth alot more than £85m to RM, possibly double. Plus, they can hold an English club to ransom thanks to the bloated fees English clubs are routinely paying now.

Also, perhaps we can structure a similar wage thing but Bale is likely on significantly higher wages than Ade was on at City so we'd still have to pay alot more in wages. Then we'll have to give even more significant wage bumps to Kane, Lloris, Dele, Eriksen, etc.

Look, I'd love Bale to come back. I would love nothing more than that. Maybe it would be possible if we were already in the new stadium with the debt on it paid down a bit

Real will find it v hard to get rid of him. They only just gave him a long deal on £650K a week. Hard to see even United matching that, and why would he leave for less?

It's a bit like that girl you knew were punching above your weight with, sad when she left but when you hear she might be willing to come back, you know it's because she'll be that little bit more chubby and that the super fit guy she was with has broken her.

We've moved on, he's moved on and as much as i love the idea, i can't see it happening or ending happily if it does.

He's only worth what someone is willing to pay and no one is gonna be willing to pay £85m for someone that's had 19 injuries in 2 years.
