The thing that I struggle to comprehend about Arsenal fans is that none of them seem to remember that pre-Wenger, while Arsenal had a successful history, it was built on 6 decades worth of horrible anti football, thuggery and god old route one. Mourinho football on steroids. Even at our worst, even fighting relegation in 97/98, we always tried to play football the right way, the one exception being the two years we had a Gooner in charge.

What else I cannot fathom is that Arsenal have won the Fa Cup 3 times in the last 4 years and yet... it's not worth sweet f all. Is it a sad indictment of the modern Premiership? Is the FA Cup now just a side trophy (I alas believe that to be the case, even if I wouldn't sniff at us winning it)?

Or has the modern day Arsenal fan lost sight of the world in which they now live? One where being better than Manchester United and then later Chelsea, is no longer a guarantee for success. I appreciate it must be tough to be really successful and then witness a steady decline, but to so openly scoff at their FA Cup achievements is quite "upsetting" (in the larger context of modern football).

I do believe that unlike Chelsea or Man United, who have taken bigger drop offs and then came back quickly, Arsenal have been fighting a losing drip drip drip battle against mediocrity. Yes they have had relative success in CL qualification, even at our expense, but at no point have they looked liked serious EPL contenders in donkeys years and it hurts them, bad. Of course it would... but again, back to success and losing it, like Liverpool I suppose, are Arsenal proof that the only thing that matters is the EPL title and the UCL and if so, are we as a result, in the (very) modern context and the strength of the league, more successful?

Now before anyone thinks I am trying to laud it over them, I am not. Right now we do look on their recent trophy haul with a degree of envy, but it's the Arsenal fan I refer to and their perception of their own status within top flight football and that is, that they see themselves as dying a slow and painful death into Europa League irrelevance and as such, lose sight and enjoyment out of what they do still achieve in this exceptionally difficult league.

Irony is lost on this chap, no matter how untrue his story might be

Cannot face the chance that the two spurs fans might laud it over him should Tottenham win, but what’s he doing the day after “St Totteringham’s” day?

Also, football shirts in gyms? Says it all about the level of person involved!

Gym?!! What the hell's a gym?!! o_O

Going back to Wet Spam, I'd happily watch them sink out of existence. Full blown, all the way down the ladder and dissolved.

Arsenal - they're our rivals. Keep them in the prem. NLD day is one of my favourites. Wet Spam are nothing more than an irritating, unwanted nuisance that can fuck right off. Their board, their fans, most of their players are deluded, hateful prats that won't fuck off or shut up.

Strangely enough i've got a disproportionate number of Arsenal supporting mates and to a man they have been very respectful of how Tottenham have progressed as a club in recent years. Now this may be because my Gooner friends are not drawn from the shallower end of the gene pool or it may simply be due to the fact that i'm a bit of a fucking lump .

Either way it's good to read this thread and remind myself that my data sample is insufficient to achieve the statistical significance necessary to invalidate my hypothesis that 'most Gooners are twats'.

I have the pre season t shirt from this year and wore it at the gym the day after we done Madrid 3-1 in hope the gooner there would see it but unfortunately he wasnt there. Never actually spoken to him but would have been nice to see his face when he saw my top :D

Sounds more like the response he thought up on the bus home and wished he'd had the bollox to say.

They won the FA cup three times!! The scope of their arrogance is breathtaking.

The FA cup is not seen as a major trophy by the top clubs any more though. You always play your best players in every game(unless you have qualified) in the major trophies. In the FA cup that is no longer the case.

Indeed. And you know, if we were to go and win the FA Cup, for all the talk of us needing to win just 'a trophy', it won't be long until that win would be seen as minor and we will then be scrutinised for not winning a league with the team we have.

I can just see it now so clearly, the morning after winning the FA Cup, on that Premier League morning talk on SSN, 'yes they've won the FA Cup but now they need to win the league'.
The same people who say we need to win 'a trophy' will probably be the same people that will be quick to disregard it and say we need to win bigger things.
