It's really good news for us. If he hadn't made it to the WC, he may have been anxious to play on a higher stage at club level in the knowledge he can't do it with his NT. Now he's leading his country to the WC as a national hero.

Fuck off mate. Take a look at that squad. There's barely a decent player in there yet they're always knocking on the door and deserve a lot of credit for being where they are.

Not every nation has the money put into the game that England does. The World Cup isn't the fucking Champions League and there'd be nothing embarrassing about a team like ROI getting to the World Cup. Can't believe myself that a nation like Ireland even have the nerve to attempt to grace the World Cup despite not having £200 million worth of players in the squad,

As an Irishman - this snobbish bullshit from people like yourself reeks of arrogance. Ireland, and every other small nation that gets to the World Cup deserves credit. Nobody's going to force you to watch the games. And if you really want to talk about embarrassment, come back and chat after England's inevitable loss on penalties after yet another in an endless cycle of uninspired, listless and yes, embarrassing World Cup appearances.

Prick.

I couldn't give a toss about international football, but I'm empathetic enough to understand how it could make you feel passionately that you must defend your country from criticism...

However, this Ireland side plays dire stuff and I blame O'Neil for that. Sure you don't have the resources of an England. But you've got vastly more than Iceland and Ulster so I suggest it's not entirely through necessity. Bad night for you tonight but maybe it will be a first step to getting the old Ireland back.

That little nation has produced some notable talent in the last few decades.

The Laudrups, Schmeichel and now Eriksen. Not bad from a population of a few million.

I empathise with you, I was so proud to see Greece win Euro 2004 and to this day can’t believe the bitter, jealous put downs Greece gets for ‘boring their way to win’. No credit given by English fans despite beating hosts Portugal, as well as favourites Spain and France on the way. Greece has a population under 1/6 of England, no money to speak of, and their main sport is Basketball anyway. Every English fan would kill for England ‘bore their way’ to victory. Biggest irony is, Sven received dogs abuse for playing boring football, yet he achieved 3 quarter finals, a stage that neither the previous two managers, nor the next three, could get near. Maybe, just maybe, England isn’t good enough to play expansive football and should stick to boring football?

It’s all pettiness and jealousy.

Aside, from all of that, we’ll done Eriksen. Chuffed to bits for him.

The less bus parkers the better, after the last Intl tournament which was poor I want to be entertained.

It’s nothing entirely new ( see Greece a decade ago), but definitely seems to be more and more of these teams in both club and international football.

I felt the same way about the Italy game the other night. I thought Italy played some great stuff and the World Cup will be poor without them.

To be fair, Sweden had the lead in the tie so had no obligation to play open football, but I know which team I’d rather watch at the World Cup.

Our front 3 are now up there with the very best as a unit I’m not sure id swap them as a 3 for any 3 in Europe. When you consider their age as well.
Even neymar cavani mpabbe would be a tough call as cavani is massive downgrade on Kane age/ability wise.

Eriksen is class, now if he can just do that more consistently...he's inches from being a worldie to be sure.

DifficuIt to compare just in terms of a front three, who all have different skills. I think our advantage is about our whole team as a unit. A testament to Poch, both in terms of crafting a team, and in developing players.

Having said that, imo Mbappe has the highest ceiling of anyone right now, including Neymar. Doesn't have Kane's eye for goal, or Eriksen's vision yet, but he's getting close, and has explosive pace to burn. Scary prospect at his age.

If we have to face PSG in the CL at some point, it'll be as much about the defence for us, as we'll be under more pressure than them. We did it against Real and Dortmund, and we can do it against them.

Very interesting. How does the way he plays for Denmark differ from the he plays for us?
He's the main man and by far their best player. Instead of him passing to dele and kane, everyone is passing it to him in and around the box. He's also a great finisher when given the chance, but has less of those at club level because he passes so much.

Foot like a traction engine.

Those finishes were an absolute piss take. Still a massively underrated player in the world of Coutinhos but that's good for us.

If he does it more consistently he won't be playing for us much longer. A top form Eriksen is a player every club would want. I'm happy to have him as he is!

The Irish have nearly always taken that approach. Same with the Swedes and seeing it lately with Iceland and the like too.

It’s negative, it’s plays to their strengths and most important of all, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it! The majority might not enjoy it but who really cares? More than one way to skin a cat and there’s no rule in the book that says football has to be played in any particular style.

Only thing more grating than those who talk about nonsense like anti-football is the subject of playing the game ‘the right way’
First thing any successful team needs is to be solid. The rest comes after.
