I would love to win the FA Cup. I still think of it as a major trophy. And it would give the team a taste of being winners and give them even more hunger to win bigger.

Indeed. And you know, if we were to go and win the FA Cup, for all the talk of us needing to win just 'a trophy', it won't be long until that win would be seen as minor and we will then be scrutinised for not winning a league with the team we have.

I can just see it now so clearly, the morning after winning the FA Cup, on that Premier League morning talk on SSN, 'yes they've won the FA Cup but now they need to win the league'.
The same people who say we need to win 'a trophy' will probably be the same people that will be quick to disregard it and say we need to win bigger things.
Actually most pundits have been saying the "League" for a while. Yes, a trophy of any kind is good, but everything I have heard is that the best players will eventually leave unless we are competing for and winning league trophies.

The League Cup is a side show (and in my opinion should be ditched - no other league in Europe has two domestic knock-out trophies) and the Fa Cup for the top teams is a nice to have, but only League and UCL matter anymore, unfortunately. And why?

Money.

Winning and the revenue that comes with the win and the tv/marketing.

This forum is full of rabid weirdos - but enjoy as loads aren't going and some want a loss as all want Wenger Out. There's a funny story in there too about a sulky Arse fan at a gym.

That place seems like a truly wretched hive of scum and villainy.

The narrative is that we need to win a trophy I thought, Alan Shearer for example has been pretty critical about us and the lack of trophies in particular being knocked out of the League Cup. As always though the media and other fans follow a narrative, the narrative is that Spurs will be legends/underachievers until they win a trophy...if we win the League or FA Cup, it will be Spurs will be legends/underachievers if we don't win the league, it's very very predictable.

Yeah it seems to be who is on, what is being discussed... big league games analysis seems to focus on winning the league, but certainly BBC pundits tend to talk about trophies more in general than say Sky, etc...

I’d rather win the Europa league than an English tin pot.

I'd rather win anything and I don't understand being choosey.

I also don't understand the media mentality of "must" win something this season. There are only 3 domestic trophies and 6 clubs that get labeled as teams that "must" win trophies each season plus finish top 4. They can't all do it.

When you add the European trophies to that and the pressure on other sides to do the same and its a ridiculous expectation. Surely competing to win should be the expectation?

It gives the media a simple topic to talk about year on year, hence why they say it about the six big clubs

It's not about being choosey, it's about having no choice but to prioritise certain competitions. It's not possible to field full strength teams in the league cup and still be able to compete with the other top sides in the League and CL. The league cup and even the FA cup now are about trying to get through the early stages as economically as possible player wise even for the likes of City and Yanited. Luck of the draw is as important to the top sides as it is to the lesser ones in the early stages now.

Well yeah there's been talk of both from pundits but I certainly hear more of, even if just on the fly that we need to win 'trophies' or 'a trophy' and not really specified as the premier league one.

Then we prioritse wrong. If you take our recent fixtures we could win the league and lose to Man U, we could win the CL and have lost to Madrid but we can't win the league cup and lose to West Ham.

We have the best team since 1987/1991 in regards to where we are in the league. Best overall team in my lifetime (55) and usually a joy to watch. I love the Manager and players and think about us realistically winning the Premier League and Champions League. If we don't but are there or there abouts, then the pundits and every other fucker can do one. To dare is to do.

Edit.

Just realised what thread I am in. Other fans can do one as well.
