Why "unfortunately?"

I think he is massively underrated by a lot of people and the 'stars' of our team are perceived to be Dele or Kane. He has been quietly brilliant for us but last night launched him onto a lot of peoples radars - unfortunately because he will be the next one to be linked away!

It's pretty amazing that we were Eriksen's only serious suitors back when he was available for €12.5m. It's not as if he was unknown - he'd been on every European scout's radar since he was a junior.

I suspect the answer may be that it wasn't obvious before now what an incredible athlete he'd become. The skill was always there, but maybe clubs were concerned he didn't have the pace or physique to really impose himself. As it turns out, his fitness has picked up as he's grown into his adult body, and along with it his pace. So now you get the technique, but also the engine, the upper body strength and more than adequate pace. Boom. £100m player.

He was wanted by Dortmund as well but they chose Mkhitaryan instead, also City were interested but he turned them down.

He should thank his club manager for getting the best out of him and for making him reach a higher level, we are truly blesses to have Pochettino.

I empathise with you, I was so proud to see Greece win Euro 2004 and to this day can’t believe the bitter, jealous put downs Greece gets for ‘boring their way to win’. No credit given by English fans despite beating hosts Portugal, as well as favourites Spain and France on the way. Greece has a population under 1/6 of England, no money to speak of, and their main sport is Basketball anyway. Every English fan would kill for England ‘bore their way’ to victory. Biggest irony is, Sven received dogs abuse for playing boring football, yet he achieved 3 quarter finals, a stage that neither the previous two managers, nor the next three, could get near. Maybe, just maybe, England isn’t good enough to play expansive football and should stick to boring football?

It’s all pettiness and jealousy.

Aside, from all of that, we’ll done Eriksen. Chuffed to bits for him.

Yeah but, mitigation/England underachieving/basketball/the whole credit crunch/Euro crisis/great achievement no doubt- aside.... they were fucking boring :)

He has thanked Poch in an interview this week. He also talked about he is looking forward to winning trophies with Spurs. He bigs up the team comraderie and the players being on long contracts. He put my mind at rest.

For any non greek, definitely, but we’d all here happily see England win the World Cup in the same way.

Our front 3 are now up there with the very best as a unit I’m not sure id swap them as a 3 for any 3 in Europe. When you consider their age as well.
Even neymar cavani mpabbe would be a tough call as cavani is massive downgrade on Kane age/ability wise.

My order

1. Neymar cavani mbappe
2. de bryne aguero jesus
3. Ronaldo benzema bale
4. Messi suarez joe blogs
5. Eriksen kane dele

Not sure we underrate him at Spurs. He's after all our reign player of the year and have won it 2 out of the last 4 seasons. Many supporters of other clubs however ..

so blessed to have such a humble superstar, who could play for any club in the world, want to stay here and win trophies with this club.

I do not think it is Spurs fans who underestimate him, as to be fair we have been singing his praises for a year or two now. It is more from the fans of other top six premier league clubs and the pundits who overlook him.

The media in England tend to focus on Kane and Alli, mainly because they are English. It is also quite an attractive position to play, so other fans from the top six clubs see their players as better, i.e. Liverpool with Coutinho, Arsenal with Ozil.

Last night was the first time I can remember where he has solely taken the limelight, one without Kane, without Alli and even without Poch. I think we can all expect him to start being mentioned and recognised more.

He did literally just blaze his country into the World Cup.

Is there currently anyone younger than Eriksen with more international caps? 75 caps at 25 years old is incredibly impressive!

Neymar has a handful more, but is very slightly older.

Will be interesting to see if Eriksen can rack up those 7 matches in the next 9 days!

I'd rather he play out of his skull and be linked with moves to teams like Real Madrid or Barcelona or Bayern Munich than be a player who on his day could play with the best but was never linked because he was too inconsistent.

I get what you're saying, but IMO that's not the mindset we should have as fans. We can't always be afraid that our top players will leave, or else we're willing ourselves to never really accomplish anything!

I continually tell my mates who all support other teams from the top 6 that he is the dogs bollox. They all think I am deluded. I know better.

Will do wonders for his confidence. Let's hope he isn't dead on his feet Saturday. He's not the type to be out on the sauce at least

Completely agree with you.

I want all of our players to be THAT good that they are being constantly linked with other clubs. We are now (hopefully) in a position where we can turn away the advances of the super clubs, and the players see us as being a potentially super club ourselves and want to stay with us.

It's a much better position to be in having 6 or 7 players being that good rather than one every 5 years or so, ie: Bale, Modric and Berbatov

We have come such a long way.

ps...I love Eriksen

Let’s face it in modern football all players leave if offered the right money. Neymar was already playing at probably the best club in the world and left, for the money. Kane loves Spurs but if next year PSV target him for 300 mil and 500k a week, he will be gone!
I’m not putting Erickson in that league but you know what I mean. Also didn’t he already play for Barcelona

I don't think Eindhoven have got that kind of money.
