I don't get some of the comments in here. How many of you are professional footballers who have had double hip operations and been unable to play for a year? No one knows the psychological barrier an injury like that can cause.

Poch demands the players go full pelt and i'm sure Lamela is just scared that he will re-injure himself. It's completely natural to have this hesitancy. There is certainly no need to rush himself back when he's not completely ready as i'm sure if he performed at 50% a lot of people on here wouldn't mind sticking the boot in on how shit he's been.

Poch putting the pressure on now.Feeling that Lamela is running out of time,Personally I’d be embarrassed turning up every day for training and not playing. Can’t even begin to imagine what the other players are thinking.

No doubt Pochettino is calling Lamela into his office as we speak...

“Why Erik can you not show the mental fortitude of this guy who posts on Spurs Community. The other players Erik they are embarrassed for you, they are looking at this bloke who posts on this forum and dreaming you had half the dedication to the sport he has so clearly demonstrated”.

This is all fine and perfectly reasonable - but when you’ve got Poch publicly saying “I ask him every week, do you fee able to be involved?” and every week, Lamela says no, then that is a serious and legitimate worry.

I’ve never heard of a player being out injured for so long, so reluctant to come back, especially when his own manager is saying he’s fit and he wants him involved.

I’m a massive fan of Erik but this behaviour is extremely unusual for any player - I certainly can’t think of any player who has been fit but psychologically can’t play football, can you?

Maybe after going full pelt the next day he's in agony and psychologically it's difficult for him knowing what is to follow. It's a really unusual situation, can't think of another to compare it with. It must be something accepted by Poch as he's not one to hold back on shipping players out and he does seem very understanding and patient with situation whenever speaks about him. Whenever see training pics physically he looks in really good shape, he actually looks more bulked up so he's obviously training and working out.

So unless he's got mental health issues that we don't know about the only way I can understand it is if it's the known pain barrier he has to overcome or he's scared of injuring himself and setting self back (the latter I'm not so sure Poch would be as supportive about).

you have to draw the line at some point though, i don't think we're quite at that point yet but the frustration is understandable. i like lamela and i sympathise with what he's gone through but at the end of the day we're a football club and we pay him to play football, if he can't do that then he's of no use to us.

Wouldn’t it make sense to ease him in with 45 minutes in a game for our U21 team and build up from there ?

Just look at the setback with Wanyama and it should be clear why any half smart player should be feeling cautious about what our team of physicians deem fit enough to play again after injury.

I'd start him on Saturday. He'll either stand and fight, or he'll shrivel up into a little ball.

Either way, you know what you have with him going forward.

Maybe other managers aren't so forthcoming with the info? They normally say the player is close to making a comeback.

Or maybe it's just that what Poch is saying is lost in translation? I think sometimes we analyse his quotes too much and forget English isn't his first language.

I certainly don't think there is a major cause for concern so soon after the player has returned from injury.

If Poch is saying the same 2-3 months down the line then I will start worrying.

I find it bizarre that long term injured players no longer play reserve games to get their fitness and touch back.

Training however intense cannot replicate games even for the stiffs.

Anyway glad to see Lamela involved in training and with that big smile on his face again :D

Come on guys this is clearly a mental illness. Just because he looks happy and is training does not mean he is ready to play a game.
