It's been going on longer than O'Neill. Trappatoni got the same grief not so long ago. The likes of Iceland and the North have had purple patches of late but they mirror the ones we had, a golden generation which were the exceptions to the rule. No doubt another small nation will pop up soon as well. But sustained success is a different story.

We've been to 3 World Cups (90, 94 and 02) and 3 Euros (88, 12, 16). We've had a handful of good results at those but even then we can only really enjoy the solitary goals of Houghton (England 88/Italy 94), Whelan (Russia 88), Sheedy (England 90 again, soz/not soz), Quinn (Netherlands 90), Aldridge (Mexico 94), Holland (Cameroon 02), Keane (Germany 02/Spain 02), St Ledger (Croatia 12), Hoolahan (Sweden 16), Brady (Italy 16/France 16). Those single goals aside we had a 3-0 to Saudi Arabia and the 5-4 penalties win over Romania.

More often than not we suffer playoff heartache which we are lucky to get to considering for the last couple of decades we were pretty much a sustained 3rd seed, 4th now, trying everything to scrape a 2nd place and upset someone who thought they had (and actually had because of the seedings) more right than us. We should sit on the outskirts but time and again we sneak in to the party. This is, and has been, an over-performing country and all we ever hope to do is get there and have a good time. We we go, we do, no matter the result and for all the bollockses saying we are no loss to a major tournament, you're living in a dream world, where the World Cup is Football's very own version of the Harlem Globe Trotters. Instead it is where many big names and big teams go to die while the true stars rise to the occasion, sometimes only for the tournament, and fade again. The World Cup has always been about the unique for me. The stories, the moments, the characters, because that is the only thing you can guarantee to turn up. And a lot of the time they are provided by nations the Footballing Snobbery spend most of the time looking down on.

We should have bloody won that group too :(

My eyes bled a little reading that rather long paragraph lol :dead:

Another performance this season he should hope Barcelona weren't watching. :ROFLMAO:

When you remove the games where Eriksen adds bundles to his stats against poor teams who give him space he is nothing better than Gylfi Sigurdsson. Once again he bottled challenges, lost the ball on multiple occasions and offered nothing from set pieces. It's hard to class someone world class when they haven't scored a free kick for their club in 2 years.

There's a reason why there have been no bids for him since he joined Spurs. All this crap about him being under the radar is ridiculous given every big club will have scouts watching the PL, CL and internationals. On his day he is a very good player, but so is Juan Mata.

If you think Christian Eriksen and Gylfi Sigurdsson are in the same league then football isn't for you

Kane hasn't scored a free kick for Spurs in two years, can't be world class

We need to buy a player to share the creative load with Eriksen he is playing too much football

I don't think he plays too much football. Only he and the coaching staff know what his fitness is like but we rely on him too much for creativity. Man City are rinsing everybody because if KDB is struggling you still have David Silva and Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane and Bernardo Silva. Oil money gave them these players but that's just the way it is.

We need more creative players. Erik Lamela is coming back. Marcus Edwards should be given a chance and maybe Barkley will sign in January. Winks is playing a lot and hopefully with more experience he can offer a goal threat as well.

Lamela is a different player to Eriksen I mean like a Mahrez or a Payet type player. Lamela hopefully has a part to play but he is not a playmaker

Yes, that’s why I was advocating signing Mahrez in the summer. New creative option for us, new challenge for him.

Personally Zaha and Mahrez would give us amazing options to rotate with Lamela and Eriksen.. Barkley I see as a deeper option.

The guy is so talented. Yes he has a great shot on him and can put in some delightful balls but when have you ever seen Eriksen grab the game by the scruff of the neck. With so much talent he needs to see more of the ball and control the game.

I think that's the main difference between him and De Bruyne.

I'm usually pretty critical of Eriksen, but this really wasn't his fault yesterday. Sissoko and Dembele's poor play in the midfield, and Dele's poor form, left him pretty starved of service.

Front three were a big problem yesterday and no Wanyama or Dier sitting in front of the back three was also an issue.. We should have played 10 yards deeper to compensate for this

No I know he’s a different player but he can offer us an option of play to rest Eriksen when needed. Our only other options at the moment are Winks or Dembele and for me I think Lamela when on form can add as much to our attack as Eriksen does but I wouldn’t say the day for Winks or Dembele

Can't help but think Eriksen is Barcelona bound after another amazing performance.... Espanyol.

Whilst your post is obviously idiotic, I was amazed at how awful Eriksen was today.

If Sissoko put in that performance he’d be attacked as soon as he left the ground.

I'll refer from slaghing him off, since he runs the most, and has to plsy every single game due to us not having backup.
