The big games are won in midfield and at the moment midfield is by far our weakest area. Without Winks we are even more exposed. They need to battle out there but what's even more important is that they are calm and fast under pressure. Far too many times when we are pressed we panic and time and time again there is a lack of cohesion we and we give the ball away. Too many touches, too much dilly dallying around and a general lack of awareness.

We are badly missing Wanyama. In midfield Dier is simply not at his level and is needed at CB now anyway. Dembele is looking very rusty and you could say finished these days and Sissoko is quite simply not a long term solution. We're only left with Winks who is good enough currently.

We should go with the midfield and forwards that beat Liverpool until January then bring in another midfielder or recall Onomah at least.

Worryingly Poch seems to want Andre Gomes from Barca. Another one whose talents are hot and cold and largely cold. He'll need a year or two to settle in and develop. Bullshit.

oh well. I can take a crumb of comfort from the fact that neither goal should have stood. Kane, Dele and Dier looked knackered. But we kinda played into their hands with that line up. Sanchez and Ozil got one v one far too easily. And without Dier in midfield we were easy to open up. Maybe should have played Davies at CB and Aurier at LB. got to put it right next weekend against WBA

couple of other things occurred to me.

listening to him and reading the book, Poch puts great emphasis on the psychological side of the game, even when it come to regular training. Its therefore really strange that pyschologically the whole team seemed so unprepared for the battle they were in for this afternoon. it was almost like they hadn't talked about the importance of the game for the club, fans, its impact on how we are perceived, how the goons were going to raise their game, the crowd......everything that basically comes with a London Derby.

very very peculiar.

the other thing, of course is that only Davinson Sanchez can go to bed tonight knowing that he did his job and did it exceptionally well, even though Mike Dean is a total dick.

If we play like we did against Utd and Arsenal against City we will be in for a slaughtering because they are a far superior pressing team.

My goodness - do we have exactly the same brain? I think exactly the same as you have articulated. I could not agree more sir.

Yeah I know, and he’s an utter tool on there too. Don’t condone it, but if amyone desederves it, it’s hey m. He smacked his mrs around so maybe he knows she feels now.

Giving it large tonight.

I saw one of his tweets in the week, he was going on about trophies won, he had included the UEFA Fairs Cup in the list
and I am ashamed to admit I reminded him it was not a trophy recognised by UEFA and he should add in the Emirates trophies instead ..

people need to have some perspective. We have some big injury/ fitness issues: Alli, Demebele and Kane did not look match fit today....Winks probably only good for 30 mins of the bench.

No Wanyama, no Toby and obviously no Lamela.

Arse had their best team, fully fit, at home and two dodgy decisions.

Eriksen also looked like he was feeling some fatigue after carrying Denmark to the world cup.

Let's be honest if we had our best x1 out there at normal fitness we would have seen a completely different game.

Think we need to rest Kane and Alli midweek.

Brilliant post.

We need ball players in the heart of midfield. Players who have nimble footwork to use the ball quickly. Players who can work in congested spaces and make their own space. Who can see a pass and execute it.

The city players all want the ball and are proactive with it. Quick movement and tempo. Even Fernandinho who is their "defensive" midfielder has more creativity with his passing than our number 10 (Alli).

Lloris was bit off, also Arsenal were prepared to take bookings to break up play as necessary.

Still 4th though. COYS

I just realised that we lost 3 of our last 5 games. Two wins were with Real and Palace. I think we can all agree that against CP we were very lucky. Have we all distorted the truth that something is not right with our form, with this Real win?

Missing Wanyama massively. If our three options at holding player are Wanyama, Dier then winks, you realise how fucked we were today with none of them

throw out the Spam game.

Think about the energy shown against Real (and that is without Wanyama and Toby getting injured early). What's the difference between that side and today's? Injuries/ fatigue to Winks, Alli, Kane and Toby.

It shows that taking on Real twice, Pool, Man U and Arse in quick succession takes a hell of a lot out of a squad. Throw in WHAMs (League) Cup final, a Palace who truly gave everything and a succession of niggling injuries + one serious injury to Toby and it's just all got a bit much.

We're still developing. There will be more setbacks along the way. Just hope we're top four when we find our groove again.

All clubs get injuries it's how you deal with it and the depth of quality in the squad that gets you over the line, we have to stop using excuses about developing etc it's wearing thin for me.
In the press poch called for a strong mentality ahead of the game nothing wrong with him saying that of course, but his side did not deliver on any level today as is often the case when we play away to the top club's.

We absolutely must not drop the "we're developing" line because we are. We're just about the youngest sqaud in the league and we're only in our second CL campaign with this side - and it's already a thousand times better than the first.

And don't forget that our last seven games have been Real twice, three top six rivals, a London side that sees their games againat us as the biggest of the season, and Palace. We were always unlikely to come away from it unscathed, it's a horrible run of fixtures.

We lacked coherence and fight today, and that was very disappointing. And I agree that our record away at the top sides under Poch is terrible. But we're *this* close to being a truly great team and we must not lose sight of that.
