We absolutely must not drop the "we're developing" line because we are. We're just about the youngest sqaud in the league and we're only in our second CL campaign with this side - and it's already a thousand times better than the first.

And don't forget that our last seven games have been Real twice, three top six rivals, a London side that sees their games againat us as the biggest of the season, and Palace. We were always unlikely to come away from it unscathed, it's a horrible run of fixtures.

We lacked coherence and fight today, and that was very disappointing. And I agree that our record away at the top sides under Poch is terrible. But we're *this* close to being a truly great team and we must not lose sight of that.

I understand what your trying to get at but we are not close yet we are still some way off in belief and squad.

For all the teeth gnashing that entire game turns on Mike Dean giving a foul against the best player on the pitch - Davidson Sanchez.

Awful awful decision. Feel so bad for the lad because he owned Alexis in that one on one. Dean should be made to personally apologise to the kid.

There's a balancing act to be had.

We have come on leaps and bounds under Poch with a budget and wage sheet lower than some mid-table clubs. So the fact we are in the conversation for the title, are in the Champions League, have dismantled the European champions and beaten all the top six sides at home at least once gives great optimism. It is important to mention our home record against top six sides under his management is very strong....last season we picked up 13/15 points and we've demolished each of them at least once too. With a fantastic training ground and state of the art stadium to come, new and richer revenue streams meaning more money for the club to invest things can only get better.

The other argument is we have a very good team as it is. Forget where they came from or how they've come to this position, our starting eleven is arguably the best in the league. Our fans make this comment all the time when we win. Best CBs in the league, best full backs in the league, best young player in the league, best striker in Europe.

Our team is strong enough to put in a performance away from home to the top six and pick up results yet we lose more often than not and it's not a hard-fought loss. It's usually a limp and lifeless defeat. Why is that?

At some point we have to stop feeling sorry about ourselves. Yes the future is bright and I strongly believe we will one day get to the promised land but in the present day is all that matters and today was yet another lame and predictable away trip to a domestic rival.

Bit of a weird one having missed watching the game, as the stats (we had significantly more possesion and the same number of shots etc) and highlights (Kane missing two chances you'd expect him to score, Eriksen hitting the post, Son with a difficult chance but one that we've seen him score often enough and Dier's header) suggest a game that could have gone either way on the day.

Ok we never turned up today for one of are biggest games of the season. When I mean one yes it's not the end of the world we have only played 12 games and the season is long.Kane, Ericson, Alli were all off today from the start but any team will miss the quality that we have Rose, lamela,Toby hopefully will all be back come January but the real player we are missing is big Victor W, can't wait to see him back. Not all lost today let's look forward to Tuesday.COYS

Tosh mate ! sanchez was brilliant and I don' mean the sulky goonie one either

OK, I accept that Sanchez stood out too but as for the rest of them, it was rubbish. Like a throwback to the bad old days of Martin Jol and Ramos. If it was down to me, I wouldn't even pay them this week.

I'm still sitting here shaking my head in disbelief and what I saw this afternoon.

The big games are won in midfield and at the moment midfield is by far our weakest area. Without Winks we are even more exposed. They need to battle out there but what's even more important is that they are calm and fast under pressure. Far too many times when we are pressed we panic and time and time again there is a lack of cohesion we and we give the ball away. Too many touches, too much dilly dallying around and a general lack of awareness.

We are badly missing Wanyama. In midfield Dier is simply not at his level and is needed at CB now anyway. Dembele is looking very rusty and you could say finished these days and Sissoko is quite simply not a long term solution. We're only left with Winks who is good enough currently.

We should go with the midfield and forwards that beat Liverpool until January then bring in another midfielder or recall Onomah at least.

If we play like we did against Utd and Arsenal against City we will be in for a slaughtering because they are a far superior pressing team.

I didn't see to much of the game, my connection is a bit sporadic! However, I did see that the back 3, at 2 nil down, were yet again tippy-tappying the ball around, not achieving much.

Later on down the pub it came to me, like a Eureka moment. (Bare with me someone has probably already said this). When we play 3-4-2-1, or even when we play 4-2-3-1 ( you get the drift). The 3 at the back and the centre 2 in front of them, are like the heart beat of the team. If they are passing slowly, barely giving the receiving player time to think, the players ahead get into the mind set that we have control of this, every thing is good and positive, we can relax. However, if the back 3 and the 2 CMs are passing quickly, then the rest would naturally get more positive and be more ready to receive the ball.

Now, in this analogy, what the heart beat of our team needs is a pacemaker. Someone who keeps things ticking along at the right pace. A guy with the vision and ability to slow it down or speed it up as necessary. I think our pacemaker is Harry Winks but he was not fit enough to start. So the question is who else do we have, or do we need to buy to be a second pacemaker? This is a rhetorical question as this is not the right forum, but I hope you get my point!

truly don't understand our fans who minimize things like our injuries and related issues. Leic and Chelsea only won the leagues because they had no European competitions and an incredible run of luck with injuries. This season with a level playing field (CL/ Europe for the contenders) we have had terrible luck with injuries and fitness and some of our fans minimize the impact....

They are a massive factor but I don't believe a full strength spurs would of won today. That's the issue.

Yeah I know mate I am angry not going to lie but it's the usual shit isn't it regularly losing games against the big rivals away year on year.
Looking at it today we are still short in certain areas and the mindset of belieing we can win there is again not there yet, still much work to be done.
You realise that is their first win against us in 7 attempts?

I 100% disagree with that. There is no doubt in my mind that the Kane we saw against Dortmund (fully fit) and Alli in the Real game, with Toby at the back and Wanyama playing like he was before the summer injury, not to mention the Winks we saw against Real would have won this game. Would have definitely put my money where my mouth is on that one. 100%.

took a look at the table....we are 3 points behind Utd in second.....IF the injuries improve (dramatically) for us we will finish second.
Citeh have this won....we are the only team who have the possibility of keeping up with them but the gap and our squad fitness level right now makes it impossible unfortunately. That's ok....winning the title at the new ground has been destined for the last few years....

At the lane yes at their place? No. Form goes out the window for this game. If you want to take form into it though...

Totally agree. Our biggest issue right now concerns injuries and game fitness. We lost fair and square today – have no great complaints re the officiating; sure mistakes were made, but we deserved nothing from this game.

Fielding a fully fit, rampant and marauding Kane and Alli would have produced a very different game. Their defence would have been stretched, constantly pulled out of position. Their midfield pushed back to cover the open spaces, which our wing backs could have exploited. And Arsenal wouldn’t have been able to press us so easily…they really didn’t have to try very hard.

In the end, due to our lack of movement up front, their central defence pretty much handled any threat, and as a result, they pretty much nullified us down the flanks. I lost count of the number of times Trippier had to turn back and lay the ball back to Sanchez, Dier or a deep-lying Eriksen, ‘cause he saw no outlet for himself down his flank.

Think we just have to manage this period where we have critical injuries and fitness issues with key players. No excuses, but it makes a huge difference to the way we play, and we really don’t have the depth of squad of some of the rich boys.

Not really true..we beat them the season before last...
actually it's very true that's 1 win in 17 away games against the "big teams" if we can't beat a crappy Arsenal team away Manchester City and Chelsea will wipe the floor with us away this season

After getting drunk as fuck today, here's my thoughts:

Pochettino got it utterly and completely wrong. He is getting very counter attack happy now after the Madrid results. It will continue to cost us as it is not the way we normally play. You dont do that against a shit Arsenal team, ffs. We were awful today though. No one turned up. Miserable performance. Thoroughly outplayed and deserved to lose. Stop blaming the ref. We were very poor today. Very.

Can't help but think could have won this by playing Llorente and Son rather than half fit Kane and out of form Alli.

Llorente, Son and play just like we did against Dortmund and Madrid.
