Cheers. Sounds like they are preparing him for a more central role. If he's ever able to get back to the level he was at before the injury I think he could thrive in the Eriksen role in our new system.
yeah i'd like to see him as one of the 2 behind Kane when we play the 343 formation.

Him and Eriksen in those positions would offer a lot of creativity.

Watching Lamela play yesterday it will take a bit more time before we see the best of him,he was not running at full Pelt just jogging a lot of the time and I do not think he was playing in a new role it was more to have Skipp and Amos help him out with the work load after being out for so long.

His footwork was very good in the first half with some very good one two passing and he had a good shot from 20 yards that was close to going in the top corner.

The second half he found it hard and he had a few bad touches and you could see his head drop but this is to be expected when a player has been out for so long,Just look at Rose.

At first he was hesitating going into any tackles but toward the end of the first half he had a few heavy ones that he was OK with so that was a good thing.

Overall his performance was good in the first half better than you would have thought but the second half he struggled a bit but Spurs as a team was also struggling at that point so it was a good time to pull him off.

Wonder what happens when he has a blinder then!

It's hard to overstate how important a fit Lamela would have on our team right now. Wouldn't expect to see too much of him before Christmas, he'll be miles off the pace and absolutely no more point in rushing him.

No am not the plan was to watch Spurs u23 beat Chelsea go home and watch Spurs beat Arsenal....... "wishful Thinking I know"

A Chelsea fan let slip the result during the u23s match so I watched Chelsea u23s beat Spurs then go home and watch a match that I knew we had lost so not a good day, only thing that saved this weekend is Lamela and West Ham.

So, with all of our fitness/injury problems at DM and CB. anyone else thinks maybe Lamela could do a job as a DM? He's very good at tracking back, taking the ball away from rivals (though he also can be a bit reckless at that, commiting fouls)... add to that his creativity, and he could also be the one starting plays and suppliying the ball for Eriksen and Alli... at least in a more dangerous and purposeful way than any of Dembele, Winks and Dier currently seem to be capable off.

I know we all want to see him scoring and assisting goals, and that playing him so far back would perhaps take away from the equation his best asset (his deadly vision for goal scoring opportunities), but until either Wanyama or Toby return, we have a serious problem back there, a problem that made us look extremely souless against Arsenal... a problem that just won't go away by playing Sissoko, and unfit Winks and an out of rythm Dembele. This could be a strong temporary solution (or it could also be a very stupid move? I dunno, my football IQ is really not the highest :D).

In a word. No.

Even assuming he was back to exactly the way he was before - he would be a danger to see a red/2 yellows every game if he played DM. He also does not have the positional sense of a defender - very different from tracking back.

No, his tenacity is needed more in the final third. Barring Madrid, Alli's been indifferent with his overall performances- we need someone challenging him and/or offering us something different

Always thought he could play CM. Has good physique tackling pace passing. As opposed to playing in the front 3.

Still gonna be a log way to go I think. Such a shame for him. Really want him to come back strong.

@aliyid says natural aches not injury which after double hip surgery and 12 months out is very normal.

I played after after a year out with a ankle injury and felt like I’d be hit by a train for about a week :ROFLMAO:
