You could say that about any manager, though. Even Ferguson has a long list of flops.
Absolutely.. For every Alli, there's always a Janssen. Overall he has done a great job in gradually adding greater quality, nurturing young talent and eventually moving on the deadwood to get a squad as strong as we have.

Yep Ferguson bought some real duffers during his time.

Kleberson
Djemba Djemba
A past it Blanc to replace Staam
He had a habit of buying good goalkeepers and then turning bad - Bosnich, Barthez (started well but then fizzled), Howard (same as Barthez)
Taibi - bad goalkeeper from start lol
Veron
Blomqvist
Cruyff Jnr
Miller
Bellion

I can't believe the people that scouted and advised us to buy this guy also did Sissoko. Maybe they sent the YTS scout guy to Newcastle ?

First few games I thought Sanchez looked a bit raw for 40m, but I've been hugely impressed with the kid the last few games. He is perfect for a Poch defence - he's quick, tenacious, he can press up close to his man without fear of being turned, he's comfortable on the ball, plays it out calmly under pressure.
Pretty sure we had an overhaul of the scouting department after the Summer 2016 window.

Forland was in my mind but was being stupidly kind as he was good elsewhere, although you're right he was shit for Manchester United! Same with Carroll, ah him bless the cheating bastard. Kinda saw him as a second choice goalkeeper purchased for cover but he was given a run and was bang average.

Had completely forgotten Bebe, Poborsky (although he had some decent moments) and Obertan but who was William Prunier as never heard of him? To google!

Didn't we re-appoint Steve Hitchin as chief scout not so long ago ?

I believe Hitchin has good connections with Ajax, so wouldn't surprise me if he was behind the Sanchez move. I assume Sissoko would have been a Mitchell black box fuck up? Which maybe why he rightfully fell on his sword. (Along with some of the other unimaginative ideas he seemed to have McCarthy, Berahino etc)

Delighted to hear that people are happy with his performances. Best defender I've seen since Thuram.

Mitchell definitely didn't want to sign Sissoko. That is from as close a source as I can get.

Is it just me or should Dier be playing right and Sanchez through the middle? He's got the pace to cover Verts and Eric yet they are the better ball players so left and right of him would give them better angles. Even Toby played right of him, but since I was at Wembley for the Palace game I'm seeing teams forcing us to the right and making him play the ball out.

I have thought that as well. My best guess is that our 1v1 CB ranking is Toby & Jan>Sanchez>Dier so the weakest 1v1 player gets the deepest central slot to give them the best chance of keeping the play ahead of them but I am not really sure. We really miss Toby's passing when he is out and Dier can do it but doesn't often enough and Sanchez I don't think has great vertical passing (or at least has not shown it). May also be that Dier in the middle makes it easy for Poch to push him up into DM if we need a formation change without tinkering too much. All guesses really. I think each match you could argue warrants a different back 3 setup. I don't think Toby out wide is always the best spot for him either.

Then on the flip side

Sissoko
N'Koudou
Janssen
Llorente

Sissoko still makes it to the French national squad so how can that be a flop? I am not saying he is a hit exactly and that I was, or still am, thrilled about having him as Spurs. But he can hardly be called a flop though.
Besides, I am sure Spurs would recover most of the transfer fee they paid Newcastle.

Playing quite nicely through the middle tonight. Sweeping up nicely.

Sanchez may be one of the best buys ever. The lad is pure class. Tonight against the quality of the Dortmund attacking players he was immense

Sanchez is just class. Dier needs to become a RCB and accept his limitations. Sanchez is so much better on the ball and on his own in the middle. Dier played really well at RCB though too.

I can't remember the last time I was this impressed by a young player. Kane, Dele and Winks included. I'm speechless about Sanchez's technique, his reading of the game, and his mentality/maturity. I say it every week, but this is a young Dessailly, Baresi, King, we're watching. I'm sure of it.

Another great performance. This kid has basically been thrown straight into the team and looked perfectly at home from the first game. He has improved throughout every game that he has played for us so far. It's easy to go overboard as its still early days but he looks like he has the potential to be one of the very best defenders in world football.

This guy. Wow. So easy to forget he's younger than Harry Winks and Dele Alli too.

We're watching someone who could become one of the best CBs in the world, I'm convinced of it.

At the same age Ledley was no where near this standard. & I didn't think I'd ever see a defender as good as King wear the shirt.
