agree but fitness etc. needs to be managed....glad Poch didn't risk him from the start against goons. If he is 100% fit he starts but remember he is young/ still growing into his body....protect this guy...priceless to be honest
Not sure about him growing too much more. He’ll be 22 in February.

When I first saw Harry Kane play, I though "talented, great movement and game intelligence, but just too slow to make it at the top level". Well, that was perceptive. Mind you, I was in good company.

I can't remember a single fans claiming Kane would be a top notch - not to mention world class - CF the first game(s) they saw him play.
To me Kane's ball control back then even looked a tad awkward.
Can't think of a Spurs player who's improved so drastically either.

Love the lad. I think there's a lot more to come too. But when you play at Real Madrid and Dortmund away and don up the place whilst still within himself is so exciting.

I think the way Pochettino nurtured Winks into the 1st team - as well as Dier, Dele and Sanchez - shows that he knows how and when to introduce young players into the 1st team. Sure, on one is perfect but I have trust in Pochettino and how he deals with KPW and Edwards...

this is sort of what I mean....just think he will fill out/ become stronger and hopefully more durable....love the lad O4
I don’t really think him adding more muscle would be beneficial, his game is all built about being nimble and able to change direction quickly.

lol at the abuse Winks is getting on here. Morons. Few bad games and some of our fans show why everyone thinks we're idiots.

He's just lacking in confidence a bit.

Ideally you'd want to manage him in these situations but we've been forced to run him into the ground a bit. It was a huge error not bringing in midfield reinforcements in hindsight.

Think he's suffering from a bit of mental burnout, there's a huge responsibility on him now that Wanyama is out, he's practically been tasked to be our main playmaker, there's a lot of pressure on him to perform and I feel a bit sorry for him. He needs to be taken out of the firing line but not sure he'll get the adequate rest he needs over the next few weeks.

He's really fatigued and maybe not fully over the minor injury niggles he suffered. As much as I hate losing, this whooping from City could not have come at a better time. Poch mentioned that with the with the added time between fixtures in January, he wants to work on some new concepts and help re-energize players. Winks will benefit from this.

I don't think he did that bad. Certainly a lot better than Dembele who was always second to any loose ball who also gave away a goal, and created three scoring chances for Shitty.

Exactly my feelings regarding Dele and Dier too. Players go into bad form and suddenly they're shit and we should sell them. What happened to supporting young players, we just build them up to rip them down.

He is at his best when he has DM partner - which he does not have at the moment.

I have not watched the match yet, but I am not likely to place the "blame" on Winks - no matter how poorly he might have played. I would have thought this match set up better for Sissoko, and trying to hit City on the counter.

But, in any event, Winks - and really the entire squad - performs better when we have Dier or Wanyama sitting in front of the back line, as it also frees up Winks to find space. Without that shield, Winks is much less effective at this stage of his career.

Winks isn’t in the same boat as Dele or Dier. He’s done very well this season but has hit rough patch just like most of the squad. As others have said Winks is unfortunately in a sink or swim situation and not all down to his own doing. We simply don’t have an alternative player so he’s going to have to dig deep and pull himself through his dip in form.

Dele and Dier on the other hand, best friends but the terrible twosome at the moment. Dele acts like Billy big bollocks and needs an almighty slap and bringing back down to Earth. Dier, wtf is going on there? He acts like a spoilt brat and switches off as and when he feels like it. Could this be down to Walker’s revelation that Dier pushed for a move to Manure and was told he wasn’t going anywhere? When Wanyama and Toby are back, Dele and Dier will be benched and let’s face, that’s where they belong at this moment in time.

Really think Winks needs better protection in midfield than what is looking more and more like a "Past it Dembele." He's just got to do way too much to make up for a wilting midfield partner. And, having to do that against an uber-athletic Man City side was just begging for a disaster.

Think his confidence/belief has taken a knock the last two games.

Hopefully he will pick up again in the coming weeks.

A (fully) fit Wanyama next to him will hopefully help.
