Hate Nathan Lyon all you like, he is a hell of a fieldsman in that area. Brave man to run against him.
Well done too James Vince. Played well and looked comfortable.

Fair play to him considering he looks like he's now full blown ;)
Seriously though, bloody impressed to wake up to that score, was expecting your boys to be having a bat in all honesty.

I am honestly not trying to be sour grapes but I saw the run out and didn't think it was anything special. It was a good piece of fielding but vince hit it near him and he could fairly easily pick it up with his right hand. Good bit of fielding but there are really going over the top with it.

Shame Root has gone as it would have been England's day otherwise, despite the relatively low scoring rate.

As it is, it's in the balance, but considering when Cook went early on I expected us to be 4 down at lunch we've done alright. Certainly the pitch being slower than expected has worked in our favour.

Just such a pity we don't have Stokes in the team.

50/50 after the first day. The pitch will be much faster and bouncier tomorrow. 80 overs and less than 200 runs is a pretty average day and may well cost England in the morning.

Well I think England can be reasonably happy with that. Vince and Stoneman got scores which is a big positive. Slow scoring rate but as the quicker pitch will help the aussie bowlers, it will help the England batsman score quicker as well.

The game plan today was obviously to close ranks and stop the Aussies getting a psychological advantage on day 1 and I think we achieved it.
Heartening to see that the 3 of the top 5 that we all have doubts about performed, so well done them.
This England team certainly lacks the ability of teams we have sent in the past but they do seem to have one major thing in their favour - a team bond, with no wankers pissing in from outside the tent!.

Such a risk from Australia to have only 3 seamers. For all the talk of it being a quicker deck tomorrow, they've all bowled the best part of 20 overs each today, that's going to play on the bodies a bit, especially with Starc and Hazlewood being notorious for bring crocks.

Christ, I'm starting to sound like Nathan Lyon.

Did undo our good work a bit, going from almost 130-1 to 160-4, as it is roughly 200-4 the game is poised... Next couple of partnerships need to be solid contributions.

Seems I turned in at the perfect time at Lunch. Then got up to see a bit of Malan and Ali. Good day all round from the new boys in the top order, could be interesting if Moeen can bat for a session or two tomorrow.

Was it just my stream or were BT just taking random breaks in the middle of overs?

Also are there any terrestrial highlights?

terrible shot, got his footwork all wrong

decent ball from Paddy tho, Haze looked short of a trot, our bowling will be better for the day out and the pitch will suit us tomorrow, interesting game so far

pretty happy with that day. encouraging that the 3 supposedly weakest members of the top 5 all chipped in well. just imagine how nice it would be to have Stokes coming in next though! still, if we can get to 350 we'll at least be competitive. huge first hour on day 2.

Christ, just watched about five minutes and it’s all over the place, intro, fall of Cook then back to intro with Vaughn and Punter.
At least the Beeb and Sky put together a decent highlights package!
Yeah I much prefer Sky's coverage. BT's just lacked any interest really. Too many people (I counted five all in a row) without charisma giving opinions at the end of each session. Boring. Early days, but they do need to find and settle on a formula, the current one doesn't cut it for me.

A pretty even day.

If only Cook and Root could score runs instead of relying on Stoneman and Vince every time. But that's pretty much what we expected when we saw the team.

it's weird being on this site and reading a thread where some of the posts are from the opposition.
