Good setup for the goal, and the two in the week our fans need remember we are watching a 21 year old grow here, love you Dele. People learn from mistakes and no doubt he will learn from this.

I feel we are putting a lot of pressure on all our young players, most of the time they are delivering and yet some are trying to destroy them for the times they don't.
Why do we need to remember we are watching a 21 year old? He is a great player currently playing average he actually has quite a bit of experience, more than many of our players.

I'm thinking is there a viable alternative without spending £80m & £200k per week ?
Impossible. Where would we find a long, rangey MF that can score goals AND actually control a ball, pass a ball, press like a demon, and have a little leadership as well? That type of player would be very expensive. Impossible to find.

Oh wait, he will actually be free in 6 months...or available, un-cup-tied, for a 'Holtby-type situation' in January. I would have to assume we have our feelers in on this one considering the Bentaleb transaction. If we didn't then we were negligent. Dele is not irreplaceable.

Because young players are inconsistent by nature, that's why we have to remember it.

Very true. But we also have to take into account the greater good of the team.

There was a point last season where I thought Alli needed to be dropped, just to give him a rest and get refocused and refreshed. Fortunately he turned it on and went on that incredible scoring run.

However, I am getting close to that feeling again in which I think he needs dropping to the bench for a different approach in the home games. The evidence is in all of our home games so far and Alli just isn't hitting the strides, the longer it continues the more our chances of top 4 become harder.

You're conflating youth with inexperience because typically they go hand-in-hand. Three years on the job you should expect a certain degree of application and consistency from anyone whether 21 or 31.

Not really the mindset of a 21yo is very much different than the mindset of someone in there mid or late 20s. Look at how Eriksen was for us in his early 20s, i remember games he was non exsistant. Pogba also is a player who on his day can run a game but is inconsistent.

I totally agree that I have no problem with Alli getting dropped, I actually feel sorry for Son as I feel
He should get a run of games as a starter.

I thought Sonny was the only one who really stepped up the urgency and started trying to get beyond his man.

It's amazing what people will allow some to get away with because of 'youth'. I am also very familiar with the maturation process and still don't find it an excuse for his play.

And I say this as i watch a repeat of Dortmund v Schalke with Christian Pulisic playing as consistently as he has all year...that would be 19 year old Christian Pulisic - a player that ran us ragged at Wembley. He can do this because he can rely on his technical ability which Dele cannot. And there is a difference between not having an effect on a game and being downright dreadful and detrimental to many things your team does. The first can be expected of a young player and the other says something altogether different.

Edit: I am also watching 22 year old Leon Goretzka abso-fucking-lutely change a game in which his team was 4-0 down within 26 minutes. His introduction into the game came @ 35 minutes. The game ends 4-4 in case you are wondering.

Eriksen isn't exactly the most consistent player on the planet and was utterly woeful today. As he has been in quite a few games so far this season, why is he getting away with it but Dele is getting regularly slaughtered? Eriksen still hasn't signed a new contract, why isn't he being said of as not being focused or having his head already in Spain. It's all a bit weird the hypocrisy sometimes.

Personally I love both of them and this inconsistency is the reason why they're here, because without that I don't think we'd have a chance in hell of keeping them.

There's only a handful of players if that who for an entire season upon season are at the top of their game, even players like Hazard have had bad spells (admittedly it was due to him throwing toys out of pram) and De Bryne hasn't been this level constantly, he's had dips and poor spells over the last few years.

It's not like we're a team on fire and he's not the only one not exactly at it. We've not got going this season properly and consistantly yet in the same way he hasn't.

Liverpool find two out and out goalscoring wingers in consecutive two summer windows and we can't even find a backup striker!!

Good for them. After consistently outspending us you'd think they'd be finishing above us with all these great signings but they don't.

So what happened with 19 yr old Pulisic to be part of a team that let a 4-0 lead slip?!?!

He continued to be the only bright spark and outlet for his team despite them going down a man and having to suffer the poor, and increasingly defensive substitutions of his manager that left him the only forward on the field for his team. Thus he was forced to chase down lost causes, press a back 3, and create chances all by his lonesome during his first game back from injury. And he did this all while being able to reliably control a ball and without a useless flicks or nutmegs carelessly ceding possession.

I hope that satisfies your genuine curiosity.

As nice as that would be, it seems like he’s either on his way to Barcelona or Liverpool.
