For me, three great shocks in 217 with the belts changing hands. Like everyone else, I didn't see GSP coming back after four years, going up a weight and beating Bisping for the belt. Whatever you say about him, that's an extraordinary feat.

TJ smashing Cody was a sheer delight for me. It's about time he was made to just shut the f**k up and it was good to see them shaking hands after the fight but I think that was far more TJ's idea than Cody's.

And as for Joanna losing to Namajunas, well if anyone had a bet on that I take my hat off to you. Shades of Ronda! It will be very interesting to see where Joanna goes from here. Hopefully a re-match.

Also a bit of a shock to see Mickey Gall get beat by the boy Brown who really impressed me. I never heard of him before and I look forward to seeing him fight again.
Like hell it was. TJ was screaming in his face after the finish but Cody stayed calm. It could have easily turned into a Paul Daley incident but Cody stayed humble and paid good respect. TJ just replied in the same way. Although someone from his corner wasn't so respectful.

Yeah TJ screamed in his face, anybody in his situation would have done the same after all the shit he had to take from Cody for months leading up to the fight, and anyone who watched the TUF series where TJ and Cody were rival team coaches will understand what an absolute dick Cody was throughout.

Still, both men shook hands and showed signs of conciliation which is to be greatly admired.

Fair do's if they've now managed to cool things between them even a little, and have managed to resolve a few issues and excorsise a few of their demons, that's always to be commended.

On a completely separate issue, I've noticed recently that Mike Goldberg is no longer involved in co-hosting the UFC PPV shows with Joe Rogan. What happened to him? Any idea?

Let go by the ufc about 6 months ago. Haven't seen an official explanation.

Mike Goldberg is in Bellator now

Speaking of Bellator it seems Conor McGregor could be in some trouble. He went absolutely mental after his mates fight.

He’s a massive car crash waiting to happen that fella.

Proper wanker though so can always comfort yourself with that when it becomes difficult to watch I guess!

It has gone to his head for sure. When Goddard gave him a little push his reaction was kind of like "do you know who I am? how dare you". He thinks he's bigger than the sport now sadly. Such a shame because I do love watching him fight. He doesn't embrace the Bushido code that a lot of true MMA fighters have.

What will do for him is when he’s sparked, which will happen at some point. His ego won’t be able to cope.

Obviously I don’t want to see him suffer any sort of breakdown by the way! His behaviour and ‘persona’ suggest he will struggle with it though.

Since he’s been away from MMA I will say the sport has done a great job of moving on from him. The Bisping card the other night shows nobody will ever come close to being bigger than the sport. Suddenly the so called clamour for McGregor to come back is reduced to mainly him along with his own cheerleaders of course.

I agree. McGregor needs reminding that while he is a great fighter in the artificial construct of a weight division there are literally hundreds of thousands of people in the world who could beat the shit out of him.

His ego has got too big. I'd still pay to watch him but not as much as i'd pay to watch an out of shape Roy Nelson sit on his chest and see how many Maltesers he could shove up his nose.

I could eaily see him get knocked out at some point just because he thinks he can fight anyone. He'll come to a point where he jumps up too high and gets KO'd. It happens so often in boxing.

You could also say that Jones isn't going to set the sport back too much either. Another great fighter but seems to think he's invincible outside the Octagon as well as in it.

Looking forward to tonights card actually. Matt Brown in his final fight and he's fighting Diego Sanchez. What a fight that will be. Will it beat Lauzon vs Guida to fight of the night though? Or Pettis vs Poirer. Damn!

Those are actually all really interesting match ups. It's why I now prefer watching MMA to boxing where prospects are spoon fed journeymen no-hopers to beat up until they can get a big pay day.

I think if you watch the sequence, the ref stops it, TJ starts going mental as you would do and at the same time Cody is brought up to his feet right next to TJ who is turning round toward him at the time. TJ continues to celebrate with Cody right in front of him as you would do when there has been so much hate and Cody flipped the finger at him at the end of round 1.

TJ celebrating in Cody's face was more a case of coincidental geography and being caught up in the split second moment than it was a deliberate and calculated move to celebrate in his face.

Cody was not calm and respectful at that moment, he wasn't anything of his own choosing, he was still seeing stars, pretty much being held up by the ref and incapable of doing anything. After that moment, there's not much else he can do but be restrained and humble considering all the shit he talked, the finger he flipped and the fact he just got completely knocked out. After the in the moment celebration there was nothing bad from TJ

Someone in his corner definitely behaved poorly, however.

I can understand where Alpha Male are coming from though. You're either with them or with Ludwig. It's a bit of a spit in the face of the kickboxing coaching at Alpha Male if you're going off somewhere else to work on that. Having said that Alpha Male really need to get over it.

I'm coming across like a TJ fanboy here, but Im really not. I also disagree with this. Fighters have their teams but good fighters often and always bring in extra people or travel to different teams and trainers to broaden their horizons and improve their skills, as you will know. Ludwig was brought in by team Alpha Male to be their coach. Him and TJ developed a good relationship whilst Faber and Ludwig came to blows. Ludwig left to set up his own gym. TJ wanted to remain a team Alpha Male member but wanted to spend a part of his training camp with Ludwig who he had developed a great friendship with. Again, fighters do this all the time. It was Faber and Cody's immature reaction to this, that forced TJ into having to pick one or the other, when the mature reaction would have been to accept the situation and not effectively force TJ out. As TJ has put it himself a few times - Their poor reaction and demand that he pick a side caused him to go with the guy who wasn't asking him to pick a side or to leave Alpha Male, a decision which makes complete sense.

Again, not a TJ fanboy but have watched UFC and WEC for a long long time. Faber has always seemed like an alright guy but has always come across like a bit of a meathead jock and very clearly displayed tendencies that mimick a high school locker room degree of immaturity. Its not all bad as it creates a strong bond in the team and a brotherhood mentality for other similar characters such as Cody - a complete knucklehead, but when it comes to subtler political stuff like what happened with TJ, the immaturity and worst aspects of it come out.

On the flip side, totally agree with you about Connor. Dan Hardy's tweet after the event was revealing.

"It's amazing how quickly money corrupts. Even someone who seems to have a strong mind will make a beast of themselves before long."

I'm not really sticking up for Cody so much as not too fussed about him. He was a shitty person on Ultimate Fighter and grabbed at the throat of TJ a few times. So I'm certainly not making him out to be a saint. The only negative reaction from Cody at the end of the fight was against the guy shouting at him and you can't blame him for that. He does acknowledge that he lost fair and square though.

As for the whole situation with Alpha Male. If Ludwig and Faber fell out how can you blame Faber for being upset that TJ wanted to go train with him? You're never going to train with 2 different coaches who don't get along. TJ should have been more up front about it when they asked him to pick between both camps.

John Anik made very brief reference at last Sunday's PPV when speaking with DC, that he and Jones had made their peace with each other and I just wondered if anyone had any background on this actually being true....

Bisping now got put to sleep 2 fights in a row in a month. Credit to him for stepping up on short notice but thats all you can say positive. Put to sleep by GSP and Gastelum.

I hadn't realised it was in Singapore, so assumed it was on later tonight in UK.
Just a stumbled on it on Twitter and, fuck me, that was a hell of a punch!!!!

I know he only took up the fight on 3 weeks notice, but where was his defence!??? Surely he is done now.

Bisping has always had a propensity to leaving himself open to being tagged early in fights. Gastelum was a terrible fight for him no matter the situation. Despite being champion Bisping hasn't really been a top five fighter in this division in a good while. As much as I love him, his heart, his personality, he is definitely reaching the end of his career. I think he'll be smart enough to not take it too far as well, like someone like Diego Sanchez. Can see one more fight in the UK to finish it off, and maybe another one after a year or two off, if the right opponent came along and thats at a very maximum

I agree with that. London early next year will be his final farewell to the UFC roster, I'm sure but what a fantastic servant he has been to the sport, and to the UK. Like Jon Anik said in the post fight Octagon, a shoe-in Hall Of Famer.

Now, what about Gastellum v Whittaker...? Now there's a fight I'd like to see. ;)
