Football.london:
Poch on Marcus Edwards and Nkoudou
He reckons Edwards is still not ready to step up to the first team. Nkoudou is going to be given a chance. Sterling and Amos have deserved their shot.

More from Poch on Marcus Edwards: "It’s about performance. Maybe I made a mistake [Messi comparison]. I believed it was positive and he would take it in a positive way. When you are young, sometimes you need more time."

More from Poch on Marcus Edwards: "We still trust in him that he can be important. It’s up to him to show us and everyone at Tottenham that he deserves it. He need to work hard, like different players. Never it’s easy the last steps."

Pochettino's comments are totally contradictory IMO.

Because if it's really about 'performance', Edwards (and others while we're at it) has been miles above Sterling and Amos over the past 12-18 months, and that's coming from a Sterling/Amos fan. They'd both dropped off whereas Edwards has been mostly consistent. Also, GKN's performances have been pretty diabolical.

Does he mean training performance? Is this a language barrier issue?

Has to be training performance/attitude.

Why wouldn't he be referring to training performance? Also, he makes it clear that a midfielder and a striker is needed, so picking Amos and Sterling makes perfect sense.

The rotation policy would make it likely Aurier and Rose start tomorrow. I'd be pleasantly surprised if KWP gets the nod however.

I think Poch has handled Edwards really badly tbh. People react in different ways, and I wouldn’t blame him if he was getting slightly disheartened. What harm would it do to put him on bench and give him 20 mins. It may motivate him more than the endless trudge of youth games with no light at end of tunnel.

The Fact poch goes on to say Sterling & Amos “ behaviour is so good “ suggests that’s the bit lacking with Edwards atm.

You don’t reward players if he’s not showing the right attitude especially for a manager like poch that puts attitude as one off his main mantra’s.

very much sounds like training performance and attitude to me.
The language he used with Sterling and Amos sent a very Poch like message to the other youngsters.
As did the GKN language over the last few weeks....he was really harsh in discussing him several weeks ago but has suggested an improvement has happened in training and mentality.....not a big fan of GKN but Poch seems to have played this with a straight bat in recent weeks.
Seems very clear that Edwards needs to do more in training and that there needs to be a mentality adjustment according to Poch. Not saying that this is 100% correct or not but that is what Poch believes.
Glad to see Sterling involved and Amos in addition

At the end of the day Pochettino wants these players to progress every bit as much or even more so than any fan.

The youth coaches and Pochettino have a much more complete picture of these players than anybody else so I think these conversations where we question their judgement is always a difficult one because none of us have all the information.

Away from Edwards I’m glad sterling got the call up. Personally think he’s been very good this season especially with the way he presses the defenders. Finishing been much improved too I think.

The contradictions in today's press conference do nothing to help anyone. He's one of the most talented kids we've ever produced and I think Poch needs to be a lot more clear about the message he wants to send.

I like Sterling and have heard nothing but good things about the way he approaches work.

As long as the message from Poche, McDermott, and co. directly to Edwards is clear and consistent I don't think it necessarily matters what he tells the press or us. Poche definitely wants to avoid saying there is a discipline/attitude issue but I think we can all draw that conclusion. What that exactly is whether it is work effort, mood, or something else we're not privy too I don't think it's a good idea to start throwing labels on him or Poche's management of him without more information.

I’m arguing with a guy on Twitter, he says that our fan base obsession with Marcus Edwards is embarrassing when he’s never watched him play  And I’m arguing with another guy that says that we should play almost full strength because we need to get out momentum back. Has people not watched our schedule, we will pick up injuries if we don’t rest players.
Twitter is so dumb sometimes...

Tbh I can see where people are coming from with the obsession with Marcus Edwards thing. He's been built up into something that so far he hasn't proven to be. It's one thing having the talent he has, but it's all for nothing if he can't show the right attitude and dedication to see it through.

I find the tendency on here to blame it on Poch really annoying especially when he made a big push last season to bring Edwards into the first team, let's remember he spent nearly all of last season training with the first team and now he's taken a massive step backwards because so far this season he's not training with the first team at all.

He's gone from shadowing the first team in the same way Winks did before he made the step up, to being nowhere near the first team at all. For me that can only be on Edwards and somewhere something has gone wrong. I'm sure Pochettino is the most disappointed out of anyone with the situation.

understand but don't you get the sense that the convo with Edwards is going to be a lot more clear cut and understandable....v the messaging to the outside world?
