People need to understand, there is no way we can compete with chelscum, Citeh or manure when come to wages.. We can't even compete with Liverfools.

If big clubs come with a huge bid to our players, and the players want to go, we have no way to stop them. All we have are Levy and Poch persuading them with words; they don't take it means they won't, unless we match the money offered from those bids, which will not happen.

We need to expect that our players will get picked off by bigger clubs who can pay more, we are I transition now where we can't pay big monies and we are inconsistent due to our stadium build so we need to expect to lose players and hope that Poch can do a job of keeping us challenging for trophies.

This.

And the fact is all our first 11-13/14 players can all justify wanting a pay increase based on the extortionate amount that average squad players are getting at the money clubs. But fans need to realise if we start basing our wage structure on what richer clubs are paying with only a fraction of their income, we'll very quickly start going out of business.

It always comes down to money. You pay Toby what he’s worth and buy a couple more top players for next years campaign to show real ambition to win trophies, then I can assure you Toby would not be concerned about a release clause in his contract.

Let’s see how this pans out... but any player looking to leave us on the grand opening of new stadium needs their head examined.

However if we move to the new stadium and Levy is still not paying players what the Ars scum down the road pay then eventually these players will probably leave.

Yep, this is the crux of it isn’t it. The stadium is a watershed moment. So much hinges on how the board react this summer and after it.

Just give him 150k a week for god sake. Maybe we'll have to sacrifice making stupid signings like £30m on Sissoko to pay for it but I think I can live with that.

I doubt the stadium means as much to any players wanting out as it does to us fans, after all City's stadium is not exactly a shit hole.

Agree with the rest of your post.

What if he wants 150k plus a 22m buyout?
Well that would probably mean his mind is totally made up, in which case the question is why didnt we act on the back of last season and offer the money needed to keep him.

The longer you faff about the longer other clubs have to turn players heads.

Not sure I follow. By all accounts it's the release clause causing the issue, I don't see how we could offer the money needed to keep him if he's insisting on a clause.

If he's expecting a wage that aligns with his ability then he can expect a release clause that does the same. 100m release clause.

My point is you dont see players asking for release clauses at Clubs that are showing ambition to win things. We should have acted quicker and offered closer to the going rate for the best CB in the league. 120k was never going to get the job done IMO.

What we need to do is streamline our recruitment now that we can rely more on our youth products. If we do that and cut out the wasted money we should be able to pay the very top players we have closer to the going rate. And by that I mean Kane, Toby, Eriksen, Lloris and possibly Vertonghen.

Stop slagging off the club re his contract status!
You really think DL is that dumb? Crikey...

you are right mate....from some I think there is some real nervousness about losing Toby in the summer before entering the new stadium.

No but you should know that this place is full of experts...some really budding accountants and judging by some of the posts in here we clearly have spies at the club.

Such a talented forum, proud to be apart of it.
