This.

And the fact is all our first 11-13/14 players can all justify wanting a pay increase based on the extortionate amount that average squad players are getting at the money clubs. But fans need to realise if we start basing our wage structure on what richer clubs are paying with only a fraction of their income, we'll very quickly start going out of business.

Yep, otherwise known as the 'Jesse Lingard effect'

What we need to do is streamline our recruitment now that we can rely more on our youth products. If we do that and cut out the wasted money we should be able to pay the very top players we have closer to the going rate. And by that I mean Kane, Toby, Eriksen, Lloris and possibly Vertonghen.

This is all great in theory, we make only successful signings? The truth is most clubs will have a fair share of hits and misses, probably more misses. Promote from the youth team, lately we are probably better than most at this but still we find gaps in our squad. With regards to Toby, he clearly sees himself ending up at an elite team, it's not a matter of simply paying him what he wants... it actually seems we're willing to do that, but he still wants a release clause.

If City or United came in for him do you really think he wouldn't go? I get the new stadium may influence some players, but potentially having a Premier League winner medal in your trophy carbonate or the "I was there the season Spurs moved to a new stadium" medal I'm pretty sure most would choose the first one.

I would say Levy will want to make a statement in the summer that we can still be competitive in the transfer market even with the new stadium. Hopefully our wage structure will increase, but we still wont be able to offer the wages United or City cant offer.

you are right mate....from some I think there is some real nervousness about losing Toby in the summer before entering the new stadium.

Nervousness you are to right mate , people may be Nervous because Toby is to our Defence what Kane is to our Offense

Just give him 150k a week for god sake. Maybe we'll have to sacrifice making stupid signings like £30m on Sissoko to pay for it but I think I can live with that.

difficult to do with 15 other players at the club who would want an increase in wage as well. not that easy to just add some numbers to an existent pay stub

I wonder what will happen with vertonghen. 1.5 years left and will be 31.Personally I’d offer him 2 years but think he will want more.Actuslly saw West Ham gave Reid 29 a SIX year deal

Great explanation and totally agree. This is why the new stadium is so key to our future, even if the current first team squad may not benefit from the increased revenue as quickly as they'd like. Our most important 'player' probably is Levy. If he can swing a naming rights deal that reflects the global appeal of a dual American Football and Association Football stadium, and attract a NFL franchise, we will generate massive revenue comparable to, and potentially even surpassing, the current richest clubs. He is also key in ensuring our crown jewels are on long term contracts and that we maximise fees for players who want out in the interim. This is why Poch is also so key to our future as the likes of KWP, TOB etc. will need to be developed to become first team players as we offload the likes of Rose for inflated fees.

I take @Hercules point very seriously that DL is not one to stuff things up on the numbers front.
I wonder if the convo between Poch and Levy would tilt more along the lines of how best to spend the money that we have coming in from transfer fees. For instance, if Janssen, Sissoko, GKN and Rose are sold in the next two windows, as is likely, and Barkley is picked up on a free, that leaves a pot of about 90 million or so. Now that could be used to build up the squad or fast track some salary increases. For example, an average 40K a week increase is worth 2 million a year. Looking at a squad of 22-23 players that is about 45 million a year. The generated funds could cover that for 2 years BUT reduces the ability to strengthen.

NOW, it seems that with Toby he simply wants to keep his options open....IF it is possible to do a deal with a salary increase and 2 years before his release fee can be activated, I would want us to do that.

Verts deserves a hell of a lot more than a 2 year deal at 31. He's been one of our best players for the last two years and is one of the top CB's in Europe. He should be offered a contract that would allow him to finish his career at Spurs. He deserves it.

Can't argue with what Lingard has been doing recently, he's been their match winner twice in succession now.
Right, but he's still on stupid wages for a player that has achieved next to nothing. imo.

That's the thing with this wages malarkey if we start offering 200k a week shiteh chavski and manure will just start paying 300/400k ,ffp means bugger all to clubs that sponsor themselves and blatantly disregard the rules.
People moaning we can't compete are sadly deluded we will never be able to compete with teams who are basically destroying the game by making it impossible for anyone else to keep up without going bankrupt.

Danny (I know my worth) rose is just spouting shit
There are about 6 clubs in the world that pay silly money sadly 3 of them are in the prem ,so on average worldwide he ain' doing to bad at all really.
It's All just excuses for greed and that's cool just don't throw bullshit about it not being about cash.
