That's the thing with this wages malarkey if we start offering 200k a week shiteh chavski and manure will just start paying 300/400k ,ffp means bugger all to clubs that sponsor themselves and blatantly disregard the rules.
People moaning we can't compete are sadly deluded we will never be able to compete with teams who are basically destroying the game by making it impossible for anyone else to keep up without going bankrupt.

Danny (I know my worth) rose is just spouting shit
There are about 6 clubs in the world that pay silly money sadly 3 of them are in the prem ,so on average worldwide he ain' doing to bad at all really.
It's All just excuses for greed and that's cool just don't throw bullshit about it not being about cash.
Exactly, they pay what they do because that's all they need to offer to turn players heads, if we even came anywhere near them in terms of wages they'd just up their wages even more.
The 'going rate' is not a fixed amount, it'll continue to increase because when you're competing with state backed clubs like City, who are essentially growing money in their back garden, money means absolutely nothing to them.
I guess this concept is beyond the understanding of the likes of Redknapp et al.

Yeah we have great foundations but until we start winning things regularly, even when United were "shit" over the last 3-4 season they have still won what 3-4 competitions. We also aren't competing financially yet and there is no point saying we are. Unfortunately we simply cannot compete with the likes of United, City, Chelsea never financially and it will take a few seasons in the new stadium before we can. Some figures from the 2015 season.

Arsenal
Income
Gate and match-day income £100m; TV and broadcasting £125m; Commercial £104m

Chelsea
Income
Match-day income £71m; TV and broadcasting £136m; Commercial £113m

Liverpool
Income
Gate and match-day income £59m; TV and broadcasting £123m; Commercial £116m

City
Income
Gate and match-day income £43m; TV and broadcasting, other £136m; Commercial £173m

United
Income
Gate and match-day income £91m; TV and broadcasting £108m; Commercial £197m

Tottenham
Income
Match-day income £41m; TV and broadcasting £91m; Commercial £60m

When you look at those figures its actually astounding how competitive we are. Now clearly our match day income will double but where we need major growth is commercially which again the stadium will help with but it wont be overnight.

Can you tell me what Levy is supposed to do with the Toby situation, because it absolutely baffles me the attitude some members on here have. He wants more money with a release clause, that's the general feeling. Say Levy gave him it and United or City come in and activate his release clause in January he will be gone, we wont benefit.

We really shouldn't be using old television rights numbers. The club earned nearly 150 million pounds last year with the new television deal (guaranteed through next season). The revenues of every team in the league have sky-rocketed in the last six years because of television rights, which many in the industry seem to think will rise again in the upcoming negotiations (guaranteed through 2022). It's going to be very difficul to plead poverty if our 2016-2017 financials show our wage to turnover ratio around the 40% mark (we've tended to hover between 55-62% for most of this decade while in the early phases of stadium financing).

I still feel people here, generally, dismiss the shift in television rights far too easily (not you), with this strange belief that it's inevitable there will be a massive collapse and teams will either be bankrolled by billionaires or be reliant on gate receipts. The trend seems to be that gate receipts are becoming less and less important and television and commercial rights are drivers of teams' revenues (can a hard cap on home ticket prices be far away?). For those who think a television collapse is inevitable, note that the MLB/NFL/NBA have all seen exponential growth for many years in their television deals, irrespective of television ratings. Live content is incredibly valuable, and sports offers that commodity in a unique way.

I think some players agents may wait until the new television deal is announced, and will then attempt to get major contracts by playing hardball, as the new payout structure will be locked in for the life of a newly signed 5-year deal.

I read an article in The London Evening Standard where it mentions that Levy was a fans forum at London Academy of Excellence last night.

Apparently he told fans that he was "confident" that an agreement would be made with Aldeweireld on a new contract. Don't know how true this is but only seen it report in the Standard and a few other articles making reference to it. Thought I'd share anyway.

I wouldn't read too much in to it tbh. It's in our best interests to say that even if it were not true.

When all the other teams benefit from the TV money the gap between us and the richer clubs still stands, we also have a very expensive stadium to pay for.

You're right that other teams also benefit from TV money. However our revenue this season has sky rocketed. Increased gate receipts, new sponsorships, CL money etc. New stadium next season with lucrative corporate packages. I wouldn't be surprised if we catch up or even overtake Liverpool in terms of revenue over the next 2 years.

Secondly the stadium is being paid for by long term loans. The transfer budget is quite separate. Admittedly the club needs to be more circumspect with its outgoings in order to pay off the long term loans but we're not skint. There is room for manoeuvre with regards to player purchases and salaries, particularly with the massive increase in revenue this season and next.

Don't forget Liverpool have expanded their capacity to 54k and will soon be entering the next phase to increase to 60k. Their commercial income dwarfs ours. We'll close the gap sure but I'm not sure we'll overtake them anytime soon. Happy to be proved wrong ofc.

Ticket prices in our new stadium are likely to be more expensive than Liverpool's and more importantly, Liverpool will not be able to compete with us in terms of corporate/premium seats. Arsenal's revenue increased significantly after they moved to the Emirates and one of the drivers was the premium/corporate match day revenue. This in turn led to more commercial opportunities, increasing revenue further. Even if they increase their capacity, Liverpool will not be able to attract the same type of affluent fan. London innit.
