I hope it's not true. Why spend that much on an injury prone 29 year old. Cast aside the romanticism and throw the money at Pulisic.

I understand the risks in terms of his injuries. I understand the financial risks. I understand how it could impact signing other players. However, I'm not convinced those reasons should preclude our interest. I'm sure someone, far, far smarter than me, is doing the math to better understand the revenue implications of signing him. Which i'm pretty sure, would turn out to be a net gain for all involved.
I'm also wondering how it would impact those currently at the club. We have a wonderful nucleus, and a fairly deep squad. Wouldn't the acquisition of Bale be compelling to them. A reason to stay? If we help our squad together (mostly) over the next three seasons, adding players here and there on free transfers, or investing in a future prospect, and also adding a world class player in Bale, I think that it wouldn't be the end of the world. Consider the following line-up:

Lloris
Aurier Toby Jan Rose
Eriksen Wanyama Dembele
Bale Kane Lamela

Subs: Son, Alli, Dier, Sanchez, Davies, Llorente

Not the worse looking side I've seen.

What the loveable whore  has posted has a lot of truth. We would like to do a deal, and do not believe wages would be an issue. We agreed a set buy-back fee, and have no knowledge on how much that is. However, RM seems to have got lost in its translation, believing they can get as much as 65-70m for him. No chance!

I personally wish it happens, but have my reservations, for reasons I will keep private. He would love to come back home to us though, if it is possible.

Drink it in guys. I bet the is more interesting than any bit of ITK we get over January.

I’m actually starting to think this may happen. And I know all the risks, so my mind says no. But this may be the closest we get to a star signing we see while Levy is in charge.

I like the idea of it, but cant help feeling he'll end up taking a smaller pay cut and ending up at the Chavs or Utd.

Utd would be bad, but I’ve expected it for a while. Him going to Chelsea though would make me feel sick.

Anyone who wouldn't want Bale back is a lunatic. Just imagining him and Kane battering sides is making me moist. Come home Gareth.

Question isn’t not wanting him back but is it worth the money to do so for a injury prone player when we could go get a few great upcoming players instead.

Love your posts, mighty Hercules. This has cheered me up no end after the mother of all days. Daughter was scheduled to have an op on her permanently dislocated thumb. Then after four hours of waiting, we're told it's off. I kicked off royally- not large, shouty rage but just pure, controlled logical ire. The anaesthetist walks out the room in anger and leaves us there like daft twats. I then complain about her unprofessionalism, citing that spending five weeks with your thumb permanently dislocated qualifies as an emergency. The surgeon takes pity and bumps my daughter into adult theatre and now, mercifully, she's had the op and demanding Pizza Hut. Checking this site and reading these posts are such a tonic in times of stress.
Lack of sleep, my daughter's pain and the stress of rowing with medical professionals can finish anyone off: small mercies for Hercules and other itks who somehow, lumps of salt or not, play their small part in our states of mind

But the Gareth Bale that left us is a different proposition to the Gareth Bale now touted around and it would be remiss not to mention his persistent injuries.

Regardless, it would be a massive statement of intent especially with the new stadium bringing a sense of “we’ve truly arrived” - if this does come off, and it’s a humungous ‘if’, then let’s hope it’s of a similar vein to Robben moving to Bayern Munich - I’ll gladly take that!

I know this sounds like a strange question... But, I'd imagine that if there are any concerns at all, it wouldn't come from a boardroom level. In short... not a revenue issue.

But there could be a player/team chemistry issue that Poch has his own considerable reservations about. If I were him, I'd be very concerned on how he would integrate with the team, and what impact that would have on their relationships. For example, Harry loves the club, and I think takes great pride in being the face of the team. But with the arrival of Bale, that could negatively impact his self-perceived role. Same could be said about Alli.
As for Poch - the success of his team is contingent on how they flow together as a cohesive unit, representing his training and tactics. Introducing a wild card into the mix such as Bale, could be highly disruptive. Is he a team player? Would he commit to the press? Would he defer to Harry? These are all understandable concerns that can't be determined unless you experience it first hand. Which in turn, makes it a very, very expensive risk. I'm sure it would have to come down to a conversation between the player and the coach. And in turn, conversations between the coach and his key players. If all were in alignment and excited about his vision for how they'd play together... great. But if there was the slightest hint of reservation from any of them... I'd expect we'd end our interest.

I don’t understand the financial argument to be honest.

It’s Levy. Daniel fucking Levy. Since when is he in the habit of throwing money away!!?

If we go after Bale it’s because we can comfortably afford to. It’s as simple as that. Levy won’t take huge risks financially so there’s zero bother us worrying about it.

Regarding having the player that left? It’s a difficult question to answer. What I do know is, after he left us he actually improved as a player, as Modric did before him too. If he gets his fitness issues sorted ( something we might manage better perhaps, considering he’ll be our ‘superstar’ ) we could well end up having a better version of the Bale we had previously!

I totally get that and think those concerns and questions are reasonable as there is a team chemistry that has been built over the years that may seem rather delicate. Egos are fickle beasts that deflate or go off the rocker with the slightest of disturbance.

But for me Kane is not an ego driven star, he is a gamer who wants trophies...glory. I just don't see him loving the limelight as some seem to and if Bale came in, I would see a symbiotic relationship between the two as with quality comes success. Success is all I see Kane caring about. I have never met either player, but I also suspect Bale has grown a bit in his years, mentally and emotionally speaking, and realizes what an ego can do to a team. Just look at his experience in Madrid and how his star status made Ronaldo go all weird for a bit.

In short I think our top brass and our the players would welcome a CL winner and I think Bale would take his position as "former star, new support" rather well. And who knows, maybe with new surroundings and a new medical staff, that he can find his glory days and partner with the likes of Kane, Dele, Son, Eriksen, Lamela and the youth to really push our attack to another level.

Its not often I buy into hype and transfer talk, but I have to say I wouldn't be at all surprised if this is brewing, for 2 reasons.

a) Why have a first refusal option if you wouldn't be prepared to use it, or even consider it. Its not like Levy didn't know what his wages would be.

b) New stadium and the prodigal son returns, guys if this happened, and he stayed fit, this is the shit footballing dreams are made of.

its beer night for me obviously lol.

So much this. Putting aside the (unrealistic) notion that we'd be getting Bale in his prime (given that he has been riddled with injuries in recent years), I cannot possibly fathom why we would fork out tens of millions in transfer fees and wages for a 29-year-old, when we clearly aren't prepared to fork out anywhere near that amount to get considerably younger players.

For fucks sake, I said to myself, Matty, don't get drawn into to this romantic bulshit, he's a crock and he's not the player he was... However, here the fuck I am starting to get a little bit excited

I think it could come down to a couple of reasons why:
1. The Bale brand alone, is mutually beneficial to club and player. Both will see a high level of return from this relationship. So, from a monetary position - the net profits might outweigh short-term costs.
2. Bale has matured and his very experienced. He has also won a ton of trophies over the last few years. Perhaps, this is exactly the sort of player with a winning mentality that we need to push us onward and upward.

That said, I totally see your points and think they also make sense. Let's just say, I wouldn't have an issue with either of those scenarios coming true. Though, if truth be told, the idea of seeing Harry and Bale both running out onto the field in our new stadium, does give me the warm fuzzies!!
