Agree, think he is ideal as adds a dynamic we miss largely, plus with the NFL association having their prized asset would help sponsorships no end. We won't get him of course (IMO).

Does that @tototoner still post? Bet he's getting a little twitchy (or is loaded and doesn't care).

He's all mouth

So much this. Putting aside the (unrealistic) notion that we'd be getting Bale in his prime (given that he has been riddled with injuries in recent years), I cannot possibly fathom why we would fork out tens of millions in transfer fees and wages for a 29-year-old, when we clearly aren't prepared to fork out anywhere near that amount to get considerably younger players.
Revenue.

Bale would pay for himself with just the realised revenue. Names like his bring their own following, media attention, global interest, sponsorship, you name it.

New stadium looking for sponsors? Get one of the biggest, most marketable faces in Football and watch them line up.

There's no doubt about his quality but I fail to see the long term planning in signing Bale, especially considering his recent physical condition.

I think the question is with the new stadium are we now a club that can afford and would want to bring in the occasional big name player at peak age? We will incur huge financial losses both through no resale value and paying him what would still likely be £150k p/w plus for 4 years, the last of which there's a high chance he might be pretty much finished as a good footballer.

If there's a toss up between Pulisic and Bale for the same fee, my heart would say Bale, but my head definitely says Pulisic.

But the Gareth Bale that left us is a different proposition to the Gareth Bale now touted around and it would be remiss not to mention his persistent injuries.

Regardless, it would be a massive statement of intent especially with the new stadium bringing a sense of “we’ve truly arrived” - if this does come off, and it’s a humungous ‘if’, then let’s hope it’s of a similar vein to Robben moving to Bayern Munich - I’ll gladly take that!

Do you not think that his injuries might be a byproduct of him being fed up in Spain and depressed at being bullied by Ronaldo?

I'm sure that he is physically fucked though because of the problems he's always had with his back and playing so much top level football since 16.

But I bet he's hardly raring to get back to training if he's not really welcome there.

All the posters worrying about the money. It's not your money ffs, where's the romanticism gone in football?

Imagine him back here. It would be magical.

As long as he's fit, and there's some serious question marks. He's only marketable if he's fit enough for long enough to do his stuff on the pitch.

No not at all but we do have limited funds and I think we'd be better off investing in the future, not a 29 year old crock.

But if there's a deal to be done then we should go for it is my thinking.

If Levy was to deliver him to Poch, like he did other players the manager didn't ask for, then I suspect the manager would take the decision to bring him to the club. Poch knows time is the hardest thing to have as a manager in football. If he could get him in for next season then he knows it would be worth it as it would be huge in getting us over the line in a lot of games.

I seem to recall that when RM paid an exorbitant amount of money for Cristiano Ronaldo their Chairman, on being interviewed made a comment to the effect that the additional marketing and value added to sponsorships would pay for it.

If you factor in the new stadium opening, it would make a statement about the clubs ambitions, and draw in a lot of extra revenue from TV. If it were a signed deal, but kept quiet, before the Naming Rights, Cornerstone partnerships it would increase the money the companies would need to pay to win those deals. I am certainly not ITK, but you can see why it would make sense, in all sorts of ways, for this to happen. It could, conceivably, help take the club to the next financial level, and I don't think DL would be ignorant of the possibilities.

Assuming he was fit. We don't exactly have an exemplary record with injuries lately.

But we also aren't poor. I suspect you'll tell me next we'll do a Leeds!
No we aren't poor but we do have limitations to our spending.

Bale is 29 and has injury issues. This means there is almost certain to be little or no sell-on fee. If we pay £50m for him that is £50m down with no chance of recouping these funds.

He is reportedly on £350k a week after tax. If he came to us how much of a wage cut is he willing to take? If he signed a 3 year deal for £150k a week he'd cost us £23.4m in wages plus transfer fee.

Considering we have a relatively consistent zero net spend on transfers I'd say this is not in line with our normal spending, wouldn't you?

Like I subsequently said though, we'll only do it if the deal is right for us wouldn't we. I agree it would be out of character for us but why not just enjoy the fact he could come rather than what it costs. That's not our job.

Would be interesting to see the injuries he had with us. Looked the same when he joined us, he had loads (hence mentioning his bad back). Remember Redknapp saying Bale was always worried about his hair and getting injured?

A different environment might change that.

Not our job and I cetainly like the romantic view of Bale returning four our front 4 of Kane, Bale, Alli and Eriksen to fire us to glory.

But the pragmatic part of us knows that if we bought Bale that would stop other spending. If he struggled with injuries, like he has been, then the move coukd be disastrous.

If we only discuss the positives and how we are destined for greatness without talking reality then this site would just be Rawk.

Think how much levy will make from Wembley ticket sales alone..

I don't think enjoying a fact of a hypothetical works. Think we're talking about the realities of signing the current Bale, and the potential impacts on our club, positive and negative.
