I think Pochs tactics with the rotation of the wingbacks has failed this season. All of them have failed to really hit their top form and i think it’s time to pick two and give them an extended run as the first choice. I would go with Rose and Aurier, i think both offer much more than Davies and Trippier.

Sanchez should go back in and partner with Vertonghen. Dembele probably needs rest, so it’s between Dier and Winks. I would play a 3 man midfield with Dier, Eriksen and either Dele or Winks. Then we can play Lamela, Son and Kane in attack.

I think one of Dier, Winks or Dele should be dropped. So something like this if Winks gets benched(Winks instead of Dele if Dele gets benched). I would love for us to play 4-3-3 like City.

Hugo, Aurier, Sanchez, Vertonghen, Rose, Dier, Eriksen, Dele, Lamela, Son and Kane.

Honestly it’s a question of the “ least bad “ option at DM, be that Winks, Dembele or Dier. I can’t get enthusiastic about any of them on recent form. Maybe a miracle will happen and Wanyama will be fit and ready . Frankly I feel the same about our wing backs.

So :

Lloris
Foyth Sanchez Vertonghen
Aurier Dier Eriksen Lamela Davies
Son Kane

Vorm Trippier Dembele Nkoudou Winks Llorente Rose

Davies at his best is better than Rose at his best.

Hopefully Tarkowski will get a retrospective ban for that elbow. Be a big loss for them. Other CB Long is valued 500k on transfermarkt so he must be dog shit :D

Time for the Dele boy to have a rest. Rose hasn't hit his best form and probably won't do so for us again.

BREAKING: Burnley’s James Tarkowski charged by FA with violent conduct following incident with Glenn Murray. Not seen by match officials. Has until 6pm tomorrow to respond. #SSN

Having Sanchez back is huge and it'll be interesting to see what the tactics are for this game. They might allow us to have the ball, so if were going through the motions, passing sideways and backwards, and not on top of a collective press, they'll love playing us on the break. I doubt we'll let them have the ball, but it wouldn't be a bad variation to try for a time because we could slaughter them on the break.

I'd keep Winks and Son in the side and consider 3-4-2-1 with Alli making way for Sanchez and a question mark over whether Sissoko should play instead of Dembele.

Burnley's been the best defensive team in the league at home. This isn't going to be a high scoring game.

It's also Xmas period which means we need to rotate. For me this means we should play:

1) Llorent: hasn't impressed since joining but gives us something different.
2) Winks: efficient passing
3) Lamela if fit: let him operate in the small spaces
4) Son: on a good run with a record for scoring against small teams. Also helps that he scores a variety of goals.
5) Tripper: better offence than Aurier
6) Rose: better offence than Davies

I think we should drop:
1) Dele: hasn't scored for some time, and that's his main contribution in this team
2) Kane: no doubt he could do the biz but he needs to rest at some pt in the Xmas period, so might as well start here.
3) Sissoko: if Burnley sits at the back we need to move the ball around fast

Chris Wood is good in the air and Vert is not so either Dier or Foryth; whoever is better in the air.

I would look to have Son/Llorent up front, Lamela/Eriksen in the wing, Winks/the other CM; so 442 basically.

Burnley have just lost the Rock of their defence. His stand in is Kevin long a journeyman. It’s a massive loss for them. Probably their most influential player this season. Like us losing Kane.

Think Poch might rotate Son out even though I don't think he should. I reckon it'll be:

Burnley:

Lloris
Aurier Sanchez Vertonghen Davies
Sissoko Dier
Lamela Eriksen
Dele Kane

Southampton:

Lloris
Trippier Sanchez Vertonghen Rose
Winks Dembele
Dele Eriksen
Son Kane
