Shearer got to 100 PL goals in 124 games and Kane is already on 136 games. He could beat Aguero to 2nd though if he scores 4 within the next 8 games.

Shearer also holds the record of hattricks in a season with 5, so Kane would need 4 more this season to create a new record. That would also put him top for career PL hattricks, as Shearer is top, but just 3 ahead of Kane, Fowler is 2nd and 1 ahead and Kane is joint 3rd.

Can't believe he is so close to these career records when he is just 24!

Although Shearer had already played for Southampton in the old Division 1 before it became the Premier League.

I'd like to see who was the fastest player to reach 100 goals in the top flight. Someones already mentioned he's doing it faster than jimmy (although a few years older).

Some guy from Sunderland did it in 101 games in the 20s . Not sure post war though. If Kane wins golden boot again will equal Shearer Linekar having won x3 . Greaves won it x6. This year would also give Spurs x12 wins joint top with Everton. The fact is if Kane stayed fit and continued this ratio he’d smash every record in the book and be the GOAT. Even Greaves 357 a European record till this season broken by Ronaldo but still obviously British record would not be impossible.

Long way to go. Just really proud of him for what he's done.

Just for some perspective.

Kane 120 league starts 96 goals

Greaves 120 league starts 86 goals

I’d also say Clive Allen 49 in a season is a very real possibility.

To be fair, Jimmy was barely out of his teens at that stage!

Old man post:

My dad and grandad were regulars at Spurs before me, and I remember stories going back decades before my time. It’s only right to remember that a lot of the records Harry’s now competing with were set in the days when a team’s entire defence consisted of a big and often fat goalie in a woolie jumper, two fullbacks, one centre half and only sometimes a semi-defensive half-back. And no tracking back or any of that nonsense. Far more goals were scored in general for obvious reasons.

Though to set against that, head-high tackles, tackles from behind and the like were all permitted.

But so was charging the GK to the ground. Pitches were crap but players weren’t always fully fit anyway, so it worked both ways. It’s hard to compare records from the modern era with those set in such different times.

I’m sure Greaves would have been Messi-like had he been playing today, and there were other proper geniuses in the old days, but some of those big hefty battering-ram centre-forwards who clocked up hatfuls of goals I’m not so sure about, and the records don’t easily bear comparison.

In modern times, say from the 60s, I have no doubt that Kane is up in that group of the very best of all elite strikers, along with Greaves, Shearer and very few others. And he has the potential to become the best of them all.

Anyone see Danny Murphy on MOTD going on about how Liverpool are big enough to hold onto players like Coutinho, but when it comes to our players like Kane they go on about how he should leave for a bigger club. Fuck them all!

I do worry about Kane, his loyalty is outstanding but in the last month I've seen supporters turn against very consistent performers like Winks and Lloris and I just think to myself wtf. I don't see why he should stay at the club and possibly win nothing, when so many supporters are so fickle.

If we want him to be more than usually loyal to us, when we know he could go anywhere he chooses, we shouldn't be just like any other set of fans though should we?

I bet he hates it when he hears us booing certain players, and he won't forget that type of shit when he has to make the biggest decisions of his career.

The point is that where ever he goes he'll always be faced with fickle fans, Christ you think we're bad, Real Madrid fans are arseholes to their own players when they're not performing.

Maybe, but we're hoping he'll stay with us, not at RM.

So we have to be a lot better than them if we're going to compensate for the things RM will offer.

And I think we make our own case much harder to support when we boo our own players and diss them whenever they have an off game or two. That will not go down well with people like Harry who we hope places a very high value on loyalty and mutual respect.

He always talks about the importance of the team, the value of being all in it together. Every time we boo Sissoko, for example, we argue against him and we play into RM's hands.

Can we tell Kane he has to score a hat trick just before each game to beat a record? It seems when he has a record in his sights he has a goal frenzy. Let’s tell him no one has scored a hat trick of hat tricks before.
