Well done to Liverpool. They've identified weaknesses in their squad and as a club have been decisive.. Same with the Naby Keita signing. What Liverpool is doing is building a squad to compete with City/United/Chelsea. I think they have done excellent business in their front 4 as well. Salah and Mane' being prime examples.

The cost would be offset possibly by the sale of Coutinho in any case. I have no doubt that their scouting network is/have identified his replacement too.

This is a big club mentality and a team that is determined to be at the top. No stupid transfer tactic of waiting for bargains to materialize... Waiting for other bigger clubs to do their busuness etc.

They literally have every intention of securing top 4 and winning trophies by having a quality Squad.
Step away from the gin mate. They've had that same weakness since Rogers and Lovren was a good defender until Klopp got hold of him... There problems are way bigger than 1 defender...

Can we all just chill the fuck out, we're the team that's gone about this the right way with a limited budget. Our squads more expensive than there's. It's more expensive than the oilers never mind about Liverpool.

Let's just laugh at a club desperately trying to fix an issue they've had for years in December by throwing a boat load of cash at single player... It's just desperate and poor management from top to bottom. "They've identified a problem". Hah! I can't remember the last time they didn't have a shambolic defence! All they deserve is a slow clap and a smirk.

Was a snide dig at the team you support necessary?

No not a snide dig at all. Its the reality of the situation. It a fact we have a world class defender in our ranks.. We waiting on his contract to run down until we have lost all our bargaining power. Pay him what he is worth now.. We got him for a steal.

It's not about what we pay him as you know. It's about the release clause he (or his agent) are insisting on.

Toby improved when he joined us. It’s what Poch does, especially with defenders

Klopp improves players also...except for defender! They usually end up looking awful under him. Matip looked class in his first few months at Liverpool. Now he’s a laughing stock. Lovren looked a very good defender under Poch...now he’s the biggest joke in the division

Van Dijk might jut end up the most expensive figure of fun the Prem has ever seen. Moving to a big club and playing in a decent side for the first time in his career might prove too much for him

So they have problem in defence.. They've identified their tatget and went for him... They did the same with Naby Keita. They did the same with Saido Mane'.. And likewise with Mo Salah... They not concerned about a net spend..

I detest them and their supporters but i can admire their ambition to get and maintain a top4 challenge and to have a large enough quality squad not just a quality starting 11. Their transfer behaviour says they not satisfied with just top 4...

Good point, but will they?
I think Coutinho is a certainty. He'll demand to leave this summer. Salah is going to be Madrid 's number one target I think. Let's see if they can fight them off and if Salah stays professional

They're selling Coutinho to finance the VVD and Keita transfers.

We dont know that to be a fact. Its speculation. But its not a known fact.

As is your assumption he simply wants more money. We've had it from ITK that it's about the release clause. Pinch of salt I know but still a little more than speculation.

Van dijk might help them, but I don't think he's the answer.

Liverpool have failed to defend from the front. Their midfield often getting breached allowing for attacks straight through to their defence.

Keita might aid this when he joins, but again, new player, new league. Time will tell.

I’m not 100% convinced that Coutinho will definitely be off at the moment. Whilst I think it is likely, he wouldn’t be the first that they’ve managed to persuade to stay by showing some ambition in the transfer market. Having said that, the lure of Barca, especially to a Brazilian, is huge, so we’ll see I guess.

Salah won’t be going yet though, the Liverpool board won’t like having their houses burnt down to the foundations by their own fans!

the only two memories I have of VVD is Alli out jumping him to score a header last season, and Kane mugging him off to score.

he must be amazing against other teams, cuz I've seen nothing special against us.

As I said before VvD stomped the penalty spot during a couple of games including one in our game when Harry skied his shot
due to the turf moving.

Cant agree more. We ( club and Supporters) need to understand the market has changed... Tv deal money etc ensured this. We got it right with Sanchez and i want more of this type of signing.

I absolutely detest our net spending culture which so many of our supporters use as a point of pride. There is no trophy for net spending. Im not suggesting we spend stupid money too. Its what Rose was referring to in his Google comment... Pay peanuts and you get monkey's..

On what basis do you think that the club doesn't understand that the market has changed? You genuinely think they haven't realised?

It had changed last year and the year previous and we still finished above teams that had spent significantly more and that make significantly more than we do.

To say you detest our net spending culture is honestly a shocking statement. Really? Detest? Especially over a period where we are putting a shit ton of money into the club itself, to have one of the most attractive setups in the UK for years to come - something which can certainly attract players of the caliber we need.

Having the most amount of money doesn't fix all problems and teams around us are regularly throwing huge sums of money around without actually fixing anything. We have done that before with nothing to show for it so it clearly isn't the answer.

If you're spending 75 million on a CB then no way do you trust your other ones.

Well the reports from Brazilian media are that he 100% has his heart set on a move to Barca and they usually get it right when it comes to what Brazilian players want. Depends how much of a fight Liverpool make of it but I can't see them splurging all this cash without something coming there way. FSG would certainly be running at a risk if that's the case.

Although I think they have overpaid, I have to say that I agree with this. They are trying to fix their problems. I don't want to come across as moaning, as it is not my intention in any way, but I think we are in a difficult spot whereby we don't seem to want to try and compete because we believe the market is inflated, however unless we build a squad to compete, we won't. City and United (seemingly for now) have taken big strides ahead of us with their spending, we can sit here all we like and say they have spent too much on this player or that player, we have done amazingly well to get together the squad we have on a relative shoestring, but over time eventually the tide of spending will take the other teams past you.

Again, although I don't rate VVD THAT highly and think they have paid too much, what it does seem to show is that they are serious about trying to compete at the top table...bear in mind this is a direct threat to our CL place. If we can keep our place this year, I think we will have no choice but to start spending to keep our CL place, let alone challenge for the title.

We need to stop signing players like Llorente and N'Koudou.

What's wrong with Llorente? He's the best back up striker that we could hope for. Lloris was over the moon when we signed him.

I’m not 100% convinced that Coutinho will definitely be off at the moment. Whilst I think it is likely, he wouldn’t be the first that they’ve managed to persuade to stay by showing some ambition in the transfer market. I think Coutinho will be off in the summer. Keita will probably be his replacement.
