I would imagine he'll be on the bench for Swansea, maybe a few minutes late on. Then in against the Spammers if he's ok.

Will just rotate with Dier. And give us back 3 option if needed till toby back. But who doesn’t even make matchday squad will start to get interesting. Will now be 4 outfield players. KWP Foyth Nkoudou and one other that won’t be happy.

It means we can play different formations again, and also rotate people. Also, Wanyama will need 4 or 5 games to get match fitness / sharpness back and find any kind of form, so won't be an ever present overnight. As long as it's not a Dier & Wanyama DCM partnership I am fine whatever Poch does with them.

We can play 3 at the back far more effectively with Wanyama in the team as he plays quite differently to Dier (whose instinct is to drop in among the defenders, leaving us a man short going forward). So we could see Dier, Vertonghen and Sanchez at the back with Wanyama in front of them quite a bit until Alderweireld is back.

It's such a shame that Dembélé has got injured again as they were so good together in the second half of last season. I'm hoping that Pochettino will try Dele alongside Wanyama in order to provide some attacking impetus in CM and also keep Son in the team!

So

----------HL----------
---ED---DS---JV---
SA--VW--DA--DR
------CE--HMS-----
----------HK----------

is a side I'd like to see.

We have been doing well recently with a 4231 though, so perhaps we'll stick with this and rotate Wanyama and Dier in the defensive CM role with Winks or Dele in the other CM position - the latter would facilitate more time for Lamela as well (Lamela AMR, Eriksen AMC, Son AML).

Edit: I'd totally forgotten about Sissoko - he could be another option alongside Wanyama in either system.

Dier will finally get a much needed rest.

One thing is for sure, with Wanyama and Lamela our pressing game will intensify. Not just with them 2 but it will rub off on the others.
